  1. Sealed cable housing is the way to go! It should be standard issue on a mtb.
  2. This review says that XT is better: http://www.bikeradar.com/mtb/gear/category/components/groupset/mountain/product/review-shimano-xt-drivetrain-11-45139
  3. Industrial Revolutions is the amazing new film from street trials riding star Danny Macaskill. Filmed and edited for Channel 4 's documentary Concrete Circus:
  4. Can't comment on the Serfas, but I have the Olympics and they are nice. Only real issue I have with them is that the soles are a bit plastic like and have very little grip on rocks when u need to walk over big obstacles. I'd like to hear how the Serfas ones are, they seem like good value for money.
  5. Which frame? The manufacturer should list the weight limit. And a light guy could just as easily crack a frame with a bad crash or landing as a heavy guy.
  6. The magnet might still be too far from the sensor, try moving it as close as you can without it making contact. I have a different brand sensor but I have to have the sensor and magnet pretty close together (2mm) for it to work properly.
  7. How are your rotors? Maybe they need a clean?
  8. I think you should sell the medium frame and get a large one. Or maybe Im just being selfish coz I'm dreaming about having a zula
  9. Clipless for me all the way. It's much more efficient and I'm more stable / connected on the bike, especially on downhills. And if the tension is correct your feet 'automatically' release in a crash, or so far it has for me. Feels weird riding flats now!
  10. It's more likely that the guy who brought it into the shop is an unsuspecting buyer who got the bike at a good price from the thief or his friends. Still, it should be possible for the police to track down the thief via that guy.
  11. Try this: http://www.pinkbike.com/product/morewood/Shova/
  12. They actually do (or used to) publish the issues on issuu.com, I think a month or two after the mag comes out. I know what you mean though, like buying a pdf or something, it would definitely please the eco-greenies.
  13. I'm sure I've seen Sean B here on the hub. I already emailed Tread and included Sean in the email as well and included the link to this thread. They did reply to my email already, I hope Sean replies here as well. Their contact details: http://www.treadmag.co.za/DisplayCustomLink.aspx?club=treadmag&name=Contact%20us and while we're moaning... the online browsing option on Issuu has'nt been updated in a while as well, I wonder if they stopped making it available online?
  14. Yep, checked and re-checked the subscription and that they have the correct address. I emailed them this morning and they are going to investigate it and try to sort it out. In all fairness they only get it wrong every second month
  15. Ja, the voucher is nice, but we don't have a Barcelo's here in P.E. so I ended up giving it to a friend who lives in Johannesburg. If you want to give out a voucher why not make it for a place that has more outlets so more people can use it?
  16. I'm also having lots of issues with the subscription. The first mag didn't arrive, so I just bought it and asked that my subscription start date be adjusted. The second one didn't arrive either and after contacting them they mailed a copy to my postal and residential address, both of which arrived. The third one has yet to arrive... I'm probably going to have to email them again and complain so that they can resend it. Because of the unreliability I won't resubscribe and will rather just buy it from the lbs. Surely it's not all the post office's fault if so many of us are having issues with it? off topic: I hope their next round of prizes are local, maybe Morewood instead of an American brand like Pivot, hint hint
  17. Ja, I realized that after posting. Common misconception due to a lot of bodybuilders getting fat after stopping bodybuilding, but I guess that has more to do with keeping on eating like a monster and not gyming anymore.
  18. Don't exercise the muscle in question. Should work in the long run or will that turn it into fat?
  19. They have already started, I went on a night ride last night
  20. Have a look on www.fattracks.co.za I think there are some night rides out on a farm in Kragga Kamma as well. Details may be listed on fat tracks site.
  21. It will be a warranty on the frame usually. And by drilling a hole in it you will void it. E.g. Giant give a lifetime warranty on the frame for the original owner. So if you crack it, they replace it. Terms and conditions apply of course.
  22. If I remove the chain to clean it does 'wear direction' matter? Usually a chain and cassette wear together, so will taking a chain off and putting it back on, possibly not in the same direction it was on previously make a difference?
  23. I have the xcr3. It's my 1st mountain bike so can't compare it much to anything else, but it rides well and I like it. Has taken some abuse and still holding up well. A bit heavy though at just under 14kgs (according to bathroom scale). The Scott weighs 12.7 according to the website and has a nice spec too. See if you can test ride both, but I suspect the Scott will be better for racing. Also check out the classifieds section, there are some good deals there for the price range that you are looking at.
  24. From what I've read here on the forums you shouldn't sandblast it because it would damage the aluminium (if thats what your bike is made of) Not sure if paint stripper is a good idea?
  25. It used to be quite cheap before it got popular. Started at about R22 two years ago and has gone up to about R29 now. But everything else has also become more expensive. If I go for an early morning ride I prefer Future life as it's not too heavy on the stomach and seems to provide good energy levels.
