  1. So I placed my order and my bike is secured in the first shipment 🙈
  2. It would be incredibly tough not to go out and buy this bicycle in a couple of weeks. Seems like amazing value.
  3. As mentioned before I’ve not been cycling for too long so I’m still negotiating some of the finer points. For the purpose of this post I’ll use my only two road races I’ve done, Monte Classico and CTCT. I basically need to stop and have a urination break during a race. This is obviously not ideal when trying to keep momentum and not lose time. I’m not in the competitive bracket (yet) but still would like to know how to approach this. I basically wouldn’t want to stop at all. I don’t stop at water points and can get away with the 2-3 bottles of carb drink I carry with me. I very adequately (I think) pre-hydrate leading up to the event which equates to 1+ liters of liquid before. I also do my best to get in at least 80g+ of carbs in the hour leading into the start. My health is very good and I generally drink around 3 liters of water a day. This question is obviously more theoretical in nature but how do the sub 3 hour peeps and other mortals do it without have a pee break? Hopefully it’s a topic that’s been on other’s mind or bladders for a while. I found this in an article "A physician told me that frequent urination is the result of not eating enough carbohydrate to fuel exercise intensity and volume. In this case, the body uses some of its protein for fuel and the resulting waste products are flushed from the system by water, making you urinate. This can happen if you’re restricting calories to lose weight, or it could result merely from being chronically glycogen deficient. If you’re using a recovery drink after rides, you should be getting enough carbs, but it might be something to consider." https://www.roadbikerider.com/why-do-i-urinate-so-frequently-d1/
  4. For my first CTCT and second road race this was quite challenging mentally. Started in 3C and managed a 3:49 with a pee break. Don’t know if that’s okay but I reckon if I can ride in that I can ride in anything. My soul was even wet. Glasses on I couldn’t see anything, glasses off the rain blinded me. It was interesting and fun.
  5. Thanks for the comments everyone. Today was truly a nice ride up past the Twelve Apostles hotel and back. Everyone who stays here. You’re lucky!
  6. Hi all, so I’m down in CT for CTCT. We’re staying at the Southern Sun Waterfront which is amazingly situated for race day. However, it seems not to be the greatest location to cycle from for a lekker ride to, well, anywhere. Are there any suggestions on how to get from “here" to Chappies or Blouberg safely on bike or does it require a drive and then cycle from that point? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  7. So I eventually decided to do this. The marshaling at intersections were impeccable. SAPS no where to be seen but JMPD were at nearly every intersection. Being my first race I didn’t have anything to measure it against. But I didn’t feel unsafe at any point during the entire race.
  8. I entered this as my first road race. Reading this thread is making me a bit uneasy.
  9. Hi everyone, new here and pretty much to cycling. Last year my wife started cycling with friend so I started to also join her. I went out and bought a Scott 965 in September done my first race (40 km Silverstar) and two weeks later the 25km 94.7 and last week I done the 60km The Fast One and finished 9th in my category. I’m also doing the PE to Plett next month. Also doing the CTCT next month. I’m absolutely addicted to the endorphins and being fit again. I have since bought a Specialized Epic Evo MTB and Specialized Roubaix Comp (impulse purchase). Riding a lot on Zwift which is super comfortable at 5:00 in the mornings before work. Since I started cycling I’ve done 3500km and my aim is to do 220km a week now. This sport has also given us as a family the opportunity to also do this together. My 7 year old is even doing his first 10km kiddies race next weekend. And my 12 year old has done a 50km and today again a 40km ride with me, albeit it still at a slow pace. Hope to see you all out there on the roads.
