  1. What a shame. But thanks to Fire for all the photo's, I'm glad to see lots of people willing to promote our sport...
  2. Wow. I am so impressed!! Thats awesome to see such a turnout, and I had forgotten how good a packed grandstand looked. Please tell me...was there a TV crew there to catch the racing? My congratulations to the organisers and all competitors...thanks for showing us how track should look.
  3. Superbe pro stuff rocks!! Its OLD SCHOOL stuff, but its an absolute pleasure to use. I still have the hubs on my track racing wheels, and they are as smooth as my new Campy Record hubs. Dunno where you'd find the stuff now tho...
  4. Thats very sad...they are family. But that was a valid point about them possibly coming back to a dog free house...all the best and I hope your pal is returned for Xmas.

    no helmet

Ok, here's my 2c worth, for what its worth!! I agree fully, that we as cyclists should always wear helmets when riding. Full stop. If someone like Mr Beneke chooses not to wear a helmet, then he has no idea of just how big an influence he still has in the sport. I feel he should know better personally. I do not want anyone to fall and injure themselves regardless of if they are wearing a helmet or not...but I have ridden without a helmet and crashed and it was the best lesson I could have recieved. However, I do not agree that it is illegal to ride without a helmet. Maybe I am wrong, or just dont know the road laws that well... To enforce a law like that, every black guy pedalling his bike to work in the morning would be required to own an ANSI Z90.4 approved helmet. There is no possible way our traffic police are going to enforce that, let alone even be bothered to check. I have often seen police checking engine serial numbers, but I have yet to see a traffic cop checking the inside of a helmet for an ANSI sticker. I understand the frustration of the point that was trying to be made, and I wish this was like the States and Oz where this is the case...because then us cyclists would actually stand a chance on the roads. Fact is, nobody other than cyclists care about cyclists...and thats why we as cyclists should endeavour to always wear our helmets... Remember...Its better to put a bucket on our brains, than to put our brains in a bucket.
  7. Take the 'Randvaal'offramp just of the R59 highway, approx 15min south of Alberton. You'll go left off the offramp and down into Daleside. @ T junction go right, and then left at first 4way stop. Proceed 12km to the Kareekloof entrance where you can leave your car in safety. It will be open and it will cost you approx R20 to ride the route. It is advisable to ride with another, or have a following car...but otherwise it is safe. You can also access the reserve from the Heidelberg/Nigel rd, but I am not too sure of these directions. And do not ride against the direction of the actual route!!! Enjoy your Suikerbos experience, I love it myself!!!
  8. Thats an impressive ride...I ddont even ride MTB's, but that makes me wanna...
  9. I agree with Lowracer...Chorus and DA are on a parr...Record is a dressed down version of God in my opinion...
  10. How tall are you now?!?! When did we last cross swords? Was trying to remember!!!
  11. Shortlegs, I must say I cannot remember you riding with anything other than DA. What bike are you on now?
  12. If you are fortunate enough to consider buying either, then I'd say go for the Dura Ace. Its always gonna be in the back of your mind if you buy the Ultegra...remember, we are cyclists...the most vain of all God's creations. I have had both the 10speed Ultegra, and Dura Ace and there is a big difference...
  13. I think it is... But I am a Record man myself...
  14. Cant go wrong with Garmin. Its more accurate than my cars built in SAT NAV.
  15. My deepest sympathy to all the family and friends.
  16. It looks like a tool of some sorts...possibly an Alan key set?!?!
  17. Dude, I dunno about MTB's, but I have been riding track bikes since '89, and they really are good for training and getting your legs used to the pedalling action. But you are correct in assuming...the bike only moves if pedalled. And no, its not like the old back-pedal type bikes. You can apply pressure to slow you down, but its not a brake at all, and you'll fall damn hard if thats what your gonna try!! As for descending on fixed wheel...I dunno, but thats scary. I once tried to 'raise' my leg speed by riding my track bike down Lido hill years back...NOT A GOOD PLAN!! Remember, on descents you stop pedalling to corner, something you cant do on a fixed wheel. And this will SERIOUSLY affect your control if its technical!! I am all for Fixed wheel training...but just be sensible about if your not on a track...
  18. PM Johan Bornman...this is right up his alley!!
  19. Pm me your details. I'm a physio...
  20. I'm on my way to Grand central airport to meet the sellers, uncle who is quite threating and wants resolve this in person. They are adiment not to refund me. I will keep you posted.
  21. Exactly my point OCLV110...
  22. Exactly. I do not want them to lose their job. I just recieved an SMS to let me know they are busy at work, and that is the reason for not answering their phone earlier.
  23. It was black, full carbon effect with carbon Record. I miss that bike...I really miss that bike.
  24. Ok...I am a licensed rider, and have been since 1990. In 1995 we were doing a race where we were warned not to cross the white line by the Race Comissaire mr Jan De Waal. During the race we repeatedly crossed the white line so as to avoid the gutter, and each time the officials car 'hooted' to warn us. But we paid NO attention. Eventually, the official car pulled alongside and they informed us that the race was now cancelled, and that nobody would get a result, or prize money. The race sponsor backed them in light of the riders blatant disregard of safety, and road rules. I agree that RACING cyclists dont give a s#!t, and its terrible that it is like that. I think the organisers already have their hands full with trying to keep the roads safe...Teams/clubs and coaches should really try to keep the riders educated. Years ago we had a rider called Andrew Reeve's that was forced onto the other side of the road in the closing Kilo's of an East Rand race...and he hit a car head on. NOT A PRETTY SIGHT!! But I do agree...laws need to be observed, and we (contrary to popular belief) do not own the road.
  25. Not a Colnago!! They are like Toyota's...they are SO reliable!! Actually, 8 weeks ago I was hijacked while riding in the South (on the Lido route) and they stole my Colnago Carbon. So if anyone see's a guy riding a Record 10spd equipped C40 Bstay...tell him I would really like it back!!!
