  1. Have you tried a different USB cable or plugging the cable into a different USB port?
  2. I had a similar problem with a Powertap hub when the freebody was replaced during a service. The problem went away when I loosened the hub bolts, so I suspected it was a clearance issue. I made a 0.2mm shim that I put between the shaft shoulder and one of the bearings to increase the spacing and the problem went away. I was surprised since there's not normally meant to be a spacer in that part, so I suspect it may just have been a tolerance issue. If yours is suffering from the same problem, it's possible it's also a tolerance issue or it may be that there was a spacer there and Cyclelab lost it while doing the service.
  3. Yes, but insignificantly so.
  4. In that case, you're asking for it to be stolen. If someone's not prepared to care for their own stuff, why should the insurers cover them. I know the Thule roof racks can be locked and I've used a normal bicycle padlock on other racks. Loop the chain through the main triangle and some part of the car or rack. If necessary, cable tie the lock to something so it doesn't flap around and cause damage.
  5. That's the one.
  6. It takes a really long time to absorb, though, especially with high volume fraction composites.
  7. Where did you get those rulings? I had a browse through the OSTI website, but couldn't find those two. I was surprised to see they've only made (or listed) 17 formal rulings.
  8. My Outsurance policy says that will only cover loose items if they are enclosed in a concealed storage area, such as a boot or cubby hole and there are visible signs of forced entry. The agent said that the concealment requirement does not apply to bicycles that are locked in a car or bike rack. Just to be sure, I got them to specifically state that in my cover document.
  9. I ordered the complete bundle with EU maps from Wiggle.co.uk when they had a 15% off special at the beginning of the week. It should come to just under R4000 incl. VAT.
  10. Where do you get that info from? I've brought in bigger orders than that in the past and only been charged VAT and handling. Has something changed?
  11. I upgraded to an Edge 705 from a S725 just over three years ago and haven't looked back. I did a comparison of the two here: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/20363-which-unit-polar-vs-garmin/page__view__findpost__p__371385 I'm thinking of upgrading to an Edge 800, so watch the classifieds for a used 705 in the next couple of weeks.
  12. I'm intrigued, tell me more.
  13. www.mapmyride.com should do exactly what you need.
  14. 15. I tend not to shave my arms as frequently as my legs - maybe once every two weeks to a month. Just enough to stop them getting woolly. This still makes a big difference for the ease of sunscreen application and removal.
  16. I shave my arms. If you think about it carefully, every single one of the reasons given for shaving your legs applies just as well to shaving your arms. The real question should be: "Why don't you shave your arms, too?"
  17. It's less painful to clean out road rash. It's easier to apply and remove sunscreen. It's less painful to remove strapping tape. Transact patches don't stick to hair. It looks good. My girlfriend likes it.
  18. What is the 'train' of which you speak? Is it some kind of vehicle?
  19. Have a look at my ad below if you want a set of Zipps and a power meter for less than the Carbone Ultimates: https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/16427-zipp-404-powertap-wheelset-ant-with-pics/
  20. On a flat road at 36km/h, the aero savings from a set of old Zipp 404s, compared to a set of Mavic Aksiums will be about 4W. For an 80kg rider-bike combo, a 1kg weight saving will save 4W only on slopes greater than 6.5% Saving a kilo on your body will be a lot cheaper, but aero wheels will give a better performance advantage for most SA roads.
  21. How much do the Mavics go for? I see Buycycle has some 303 Firecrest clinchers for R16k http://www.buycycle.co.za/brands/zipp-en/zipp-303-firecrest-clincher-wheelset.html They also have some good specials on 404 carbon clinchers.< Aerodynamically, I believe the Zipps are better wheels than the Mavics. Here's some aero data from the Zipp site. Their data tends to correlate with the data from independent tests, so I'd consider it reliable. The vertical scale is grams of drag. The Mavics have significantly more drag than the 303s (x45 FC) at all yaw angles. The 404s, have even lower drag than the 303s, until 15° of yaw (crosswind) A decrease of 10g in drag is about a 1.5W saving in power http://zipp.com/_media/images/dynamicproducts/303-Drag-Chart.png http://zipp.com/_media/images/dynamicproducts/404_drag_chart.gif
  22. I'll hopefully (depends when I submit my thesis) be in Leisure Bay from the 15th to the 22nd.
  23. It's always been policy. If you didn't pay extra, either your combined luggage weight was below 20kg or they weren't enforcing the policy. Their policy changes for the Argus where they haven't charged to carry bikes.
  24. If you decide you want Zipps instead, give me a shout. I just happen to have a set looking for a new home. I'm not a big fan of MTBs, but this one is cool, particularly the major hacking they did to the Di2 groupset (including reprogramming the brain to do sequential shifting). http://cdn.fairwheelbikes.com/cycling-blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/110914-Fairwheel-5944.jpg http://fairwheelbikes.com/cycling-blog/custom-bikes/crumpton-di2-mountain-bike.html
  25. I think it depends on your qualifications. If you've got scarce skills that are in demand, then you're almost guaranteed work. My personal experience as someone about to complete a Masters in mechanical engineering and with five years of previous work experience is that there is a lot of well-paid work out there.
