  1. While the rest of the cycling community gears up for the Fun Rider World Champs there are six youngsters from the Mt Pleasant Cycling Club (in Hermanus) who found out yesterday that their application for development rider slots was turned down. The kids have been training for a number of months for the race and are understandably disappointed by the outcome. I've only just become involved with the small group, and as a local cyclist wish there was more that I could do to help. The kids are super enthusiastic and make do with the bare minimum so......... if any of you for some reason aren't going to be able to do the race and have an entry - please. I'd like to appeal to those of you out there with kids in the 12 - 15 year age group that have any kit that your kids have grown out of (or even kit that you've grown out of) to please send it along. I have a short list of bike spares if any of you are able to help in that regard it would go a long way to helping these youngsters get a healthy start to life. You can contact me at: info@capecycletours.com or Samantha Gabb from Child Welfare at: fairysam@gmail.com if you need a postal address or have any questions. Thanks Craig

  5. Suck on mtb rides when you move in and out of shadows often.
  6. I'm sure most of the athletes have at least done the distance in training, I think it's more about the number of people around you and the pushing and shoving that goes on during the swim that puts novices off. Like the OP says if the sport wants to grow it's something that needs to be considered.
  7. FP untill recently I shared your opinion, untill I saw the fear on a friends face when she was told she wouldn't be able to use a wetsuit. I don't think many people remember where they started when they did their first tri swim and how far they've come.
  8. Ever thought that there are people out there that race for the FUN of it ?!
  9. I like most of you here got my knickers in a knot a couple of times at check-in, until I read the rules. The principal of their total baggage weight rule has been in place for a number of years,(they just haven't enforced it consistently) if you pack properly it's very easy to get your bike and kit within the weight limit. Don't be a tipical South African and show you ingnorance - read the rules. No I don't work for them, I'm embarrassed for you standing there going all red in the face and shouting when you're so obviously wrong.
  10. Pallets, now that sounds like something I can work with. Shot
  11. Not going to as easy as it looks then. @ geecee with my bridge being in a dam the support structure they talk about in the article seems a bit of an overkill, do you know what the lighter option would be ?
  12. Thanks guys, was in a bit of a hurry
  13. So I'm organising a small fun ride in a months time and would like to put a floating bridge (Farmer Glen style)over a dam, anyone know how they do it at Sani2C?
  14. It'll never sell if you don't get the couch right !
  15. Stunning bike, just out of interest what's that XL frame going for?
  16. I quit yesterday after a shocker of a bike split in PE on Sunday, now I'm to scared to not ride today and loose all the training/effort I've put in over the last year
  17. Heard it being said that Bishops court is the steapest part on the route ?
  18. Just had a look at my 2010 Merlin Ti frame - Also made by ABG. It has an identical flat spot just behind the steerer tube.
  19. One of our strongest riders on the DC this year only drank water - we did a sub 6. At Swazi this year David and Davidson rode all three days on two bottles of juice (in total) How these guys do it I have no idea !?
  20. The price of an international entry !! WTF is that about At a R/hour these guys even beat the Epic
  21. Is it just me or is this event another one of those VERY expensive ones ? In general it seems the Stillwater attitude is you bend we send !
  22. Try Crosstown cycles in CT for SS and fixi stuff
  23. The main thing I noticed when I went from a 100mm to a 120mm on my XC bike was that clinbing became a bit of a problem - the front end became very light because of the geometry change.
  24. Not sure if this has been posted yet, if you haven't seen it it's worth the effort !
  25. I've been using these guys for about 5 years now: http://www.daisyway.co.za/ Thy're based in Paal/CT but that shouldn't be to much of a problem with internet and all.
