  1. I'm curious where were the cracks on the frame? I haven't heard one of those cracking until now. I'd have also thought Specialized would have given you better back up service, how long did it take for the frame to get shipped to them is the next question I guess.
  2. Would it be possible using those % energy saving values to show what the difference in watts would be in accelerating to those speeds for the different wheels. Those % energy values confuse me a bit and don't really hold any meaning for me that I can compare something to.

    mtb rides in kzn

  4. Hi All I'm going down to durban (umhlanga) for most of december and will be taking my mtb with me. Do any hubbers in durbs know of any group mtb rides that I can join? Thanks
  5. A hyacinth is a pest plant that grows in water came from Oz originally. Here it has no natural enemies and reproduces like you cannot believe It even covered the Hartebeespoort dam a few years ago. A SH*T plant to get rid of Thanks sammajoor, I thought it might be a plant from the "cinth" at the end of the word. But couldn't figure that there would be so many as to prevent you from being able to swim in the dam.
  6. What are hyacinths? Do you know when its been postponed to or when that will be announced?
  7. Thanks Andrew and Ali! I must say the bike park is awesome and considering that we couldn't ride the other side of the park it can only get better.
  8. Your lbs should have rolls of outer cable (normally standard shimano), just ask them to cut you a length that you need to fit your bike. The only problem that ive found is you need to drill out the cable guide on your frame so the outer cable will fit through it.

    Giba Gorge

Its about a 22km drive to Giba from Umhlanga, you go along the N3 towards Pietermaritzburg and take the Stokville offramp and then head off towards the quarry there.

    Giba Gorge

Hi All After having heard so much on the hub about Giba Gorge I decided to go and check it out for myself today. I just wish I had have remembered to take my camera. When I got there the weather was a bit rainy but I thought what the heck and to ride anyway. The first thing I noticed was how well everything was setup there with good parking, a proper coffee shop, bike shop(Cyclelab), bikes you could rent aswell as showers/change rooms and a bike wash facility(that I made good use of at the end of my very muddy ride). Entrance fee was also just R20 for offpeak hours! There is plenty of single track, technical sections, hill climbs and descents to make anyone who rides there happy. The bike park is also big enough for you to get a decent 2 hour or so ride in, without redoing any of the trails. The technical sections are all graded with chicken runs to the side of the techincal section if you don't want to do it. The views are impressive with the waterfall and being able to see into the gorge once at the higher parts of the trails. I was also very impressed with the people working at the park. When I asked the guy at the cashier where the trails start from as this was my first time here he called a rider over who then told me he would show me around and take me on some of the routes and explain the setup of the park to me. The trails were exciting to ride and were well built and maintained. The trails were also flowing and didn't double back every two meters to get more distance in like Logwood, this allowed me try out some of the more technical stuff as I could try the drop off etc. without having to worry about making a 90 degree corner a meter from the bottom. At the end of my three hour ride there I have to say it must be one of the best mountain bike spots in SA and definitely the best I have personally visited so far. So if you are ever in Durban Giba Gorge is a place you just can't miss if you call yourself a cyclist.
  12. I enjoyed the race, rode in & group. The mist for the first 30km made the racing a bit more hectic. After having done Suikerbosrand last week I was almost a bit dissapointed with the hills and how the bunch stayed together. The cateyes were a constant thing to look out for (I like my wheels round). Once on the highways I'll admit I have never done 80km/h for such a long time on a bicycle. The sprint at the end was interesting. I've never been in a sprint where the pace is the same as it has been for the last 7km or seen someone have a more brutal wipeout right next to me in a sprint. Finnished with a 2:34.

    Crank sets?

For some reason sellers in Gauteng always seem to have 172.5 cranks and the guys with the stuff I want in Western Cape...go figure... But I prefer to do face to face deals when buying second hand goods. Postage is R100 if that... I know' date=' i got one from Joburg and im in PE. Phone the oke and talk to him[/quote'] Its more of a trust issue, I dont want to be the poor oke who opens up a box of pool manuels.

    Crank sets?

http://www.totalcycling.com/images/image/19470_190534.jpg Ok those do look really cool and weigh 751 grams compared to 788g for the Ultegra SL. Now to find out who distributes them in SA(and what they will retail here), I'm not to keen on ordering on the net if I can avoid it.

    Crank sets?

Alright I haven't been able to come right with getting an Ultegra Sl crank. What other cranks are out there that you hubbers would recommend (in the same price range as the Ultegra Sl 2k - 3k). I currently have a Shimano 105 but want something that is lighter and at least as stiff. So any recommendations...
  21. this could be interesting
  22. Don't believe all the marketing BS.Here are photo's taken at interbike of Sausers epic about 10.2kg and he has all the lightweight stuff on so the normal bike will probably be more than 10.5kg.Now i ask you is that worth 77K Stringbean I weighed that bike myself that is in SA, it weighs 9.8kg (W/O pedals). Interesting that Sausers epic is so heavy, he even has gripshifts which are much lighter than normal shifters.
