  1. Damn I didn't know there were any boulders there And I thought it was just the north shore stuff declared illegal? Why is anything written in the paper always so twisted.
  2. People like him get their just rewards in life, as we have seen now from the teeter totter. We may loose the see saw but he has now lost a lot more.
  3. will outsurance still pay out if you say reversed your car into the bike? or your bike fell off the rack while on the highway?
  4. Maybe I should've worded my post better. The assumption made was that my old bike setup was at the optimum in terms of power or whatever for riding as it had been done properly and checked over afterwards by my coach. So when I got my new bike I could feel a difference in my riding in terms of effort (perceived, heart rate and power) for the speed I was going if it was just a little out, meaning that a small difference was noticeable.
  5. Your problem could be a few things. Such as the insole doesn't fit your foot, I'm not sure if the 2006 shoes came with their fancy footbeds with that little bump on the middle of the insole which is supposed to spread out the metatarsal?(sorry for spelling) bones of your foot. That insole is supposed to stop cramps and help blood flow etc... Your cleat setup may also be wrong. Or the shoes might also just be the wrong shape for your foot.
  6. If you've managed to get oil on the disc pads, that could be the reason. If so get a heat gun and heat the disc pads to get rid of the oil on them.
  7. WOW now how did you manage that.
  8. Its normally only on the tours that the officials get so anal with their fines. I personally haven't been fined, but some friends were fined R250 - swearing at officials, R200 - warm up ride without helmet, R200 - standing on podium with wrong kit.
  9. evanr4 if you were riding by lion and rhino park about two weeks ago I think I saw you, well your bike anway. That blue looks awesome! Having a proper bike setup done is one of the best things you can do, even if it is just to confirm your current setup is right. Making a 1 degree or 3mm change here and there makes a difference in your riding, its normally only when you go back to your old setup that you really notice how much of an improvement it made.

    Sram Rival

This thread really got me thinking... I went on SRAM's web site and got the weights of the components (for the weight weenies): Rival shifters 340g Rear dr 188g Front dr 88g braze on 105g clamp Crank 854g Calipers 287g I think this makes it about 100g lighter than Ultegra. So in terms of value for money it is very good if it retails at R6000. Can anyone comment about availability of spares? Can you use shimano chains and cassettes with it?
  11. The question is do you want to survive the DC or finnish it well? I've been doing a 160km ride every Sunday for a month now for base (race season is coming!) and can say you are going to be a broken man at the end of a DC if the longest ride you are doing is 75km at a time. Getting in those long rides gets you used to spending long times in the saddle physically and mentally. Otherwise riding an hour or two a day will allow you to finnish. Riding shorter rides more frequently is better than doing less rides but for longer.
  12. NIce! I'll be sure to keep a look out for you on the road.
  13. The Amashovashova is the race I look forward to every year!
  14. wow, awesome bike! What components have you put on it and have you put it on a scale yet?

    Road Tyres

Thats why I only ride with those on my racing wheels. Definitely not for training on.

Lightweight is something that just can't go with puncture proof. Conti gatorskins are puncture proof but aroung 300g per tyre. Conti GP 4000's are pretty light and also dont puncture too easily, weigh around 190g per tyre.GIRR2008-08-06 11:12:36
  18. Notice I did say Sundays... There's pretty much no traffic on saturdays when I ride there. When I ride there during the week I normally see an average of 3 other cyclists and funnilly 5 supercars
  19. I wonder if it would be possible to get police to speed trap there. It would be worth their while just in bribes, I think many of the speeding violations could immediately take away your licence with the new demerit system.
  20. It should be said that a lot of the route has cycle lanes where it is perfectly safe to ride 2 abreast. In the motor cyclists defence, a large group of hogs came through (going to Teak Place I think) on Saturday morning riding in a perfectly respectable manor, it was a pleasure sharing the road with them. Interestingly its not the guys riding their harleys or choppers enjoying a sunday ride that bug me. Its the guys with their racing track bikes who need to prove they are speed machines.
  21. Who has been riding in muldersdrift, kromdraai in Gauteng and noticed the growing numbers of motorbikers riding there on Sundays. I'don't have anything against them riding there but it seems to have become their new race track to do 250km/h along and then miss you by an inch. Over the last three weeks there seem to be more and more bikers with increasingly closer calls to getting hit.
