  1. Yes, I feel you there. My thoughts, and mine alone, is that youngsters can be very clever and adept in learning new stuff, but what they sometimes lack is the correct intuitive reactions for dangerous conditions. And maybe she experienced a bad collection of conditions for which her training in itself did not quite prepare her for. You know that condition where you actually know what to do under normal conditions, but when crap hits the fan you react instinctively in a different manner. BTW, one of my life long dreams was to get my PPL. But I just never had the money nor the time.
  2. What I tried to say and how I said it did not come out quite right. One must maintain a confortable enough airpeed with enough buffer for manouverability but not more then needed else you lose to much altitude fast which again remove your available time to look for a suitable landing site. Remember, I am refereing to an engine out condition. I hope that come accross better.
  3. Do not think it is worth the while for a kids bike that is probably at most worth R200. Shipping will be more than that alone.
  4. Some people have no clue what the music they are listening to is actually saying. They are just there for the drugs and the partying.
  5. I looked at that one video posted on the avcom thread. Thing is, many RC modellers, especially old skool modellers learned how the fly the plane within the parameters afforded by the plane's airfoil and other aero parameters. Practising many dead stick landings normally drill into the pilot the importance of maintaining as little as possible airpeed (preserving as much as possible alititude) while still having as much as possibe control.
  6. It boggles the mind then. How the hell are they even allowed to pilot a passenger plane?
  7. OK, but I have a few questions. Why was there a second landing attempt? Poorly trained pilot or other failure? Are they not supposed to use ILS when landing to assist the pilot on landing?
  8. Tell you what is also worth collecting. Any vinyl LPs from these guys. You must see the prices they are fetching. https://youtu.be/hnpILIIo9ek
  9. OK, the Red and Silver Raleigh still needs a home. Arrie took the Purple and Black Titan.
  10. I have 2 kids bikes in my garage. One purple and black (Titan) and one red and silver (Raleigh). Both 20 inch wheels I believe. Free to anyone who want to come and get it at my place. They need just a bit a TLC. A bit of rust here and there (not much) and air in tyres.
  11. I know Johan and Kallie who owns JK Products quite well. Kallie stays just a block from me and is also part of our neighbourhood watch. He also have a borehole and helped me with water during our water crisis down here. I bought an Ergo 50 CCPM from Kallie second-hand many years ago, and the heli is stored away. I have however lost my JR 3810 that I used to fly the thing. Can't find the radio anywhere. I am thinking of inporting a Synergy though for a YS Tareq 96 SRX motor I have. When I have the money though. That or a SAB Goblin.
  12. I have the same issues with my electric helis. Batteries almost always out of stock. In fact most things are permanently out of stock. I want to buy a SIG Spacewalker 1/4 scale kit, and not one hobbyshop in the whole of SA has stock. And none of them foresee them having stock in the near future. Can't even find a firm favourite like the Four Star 60 or 40 in stock. Kitbashing seems to be the only option as I found the plans online for all of them.
  13. I have a Great Planes Spirit that had a slight misunderstanding with a barbed wire fence. The wing is OK and needs covering. The fuse's tail got destroyed. Actually want to see if I can build a electric motorised fuse for it. Love the gracefull flight of gliders. In wondered yesterday if the owner of Helderberg Farm would allow me to lauch it from the jeep track at the top. Would be fun if the SW is blowing mildly.
  14. I have a little JR Forza 450. What an absolute brilliant little heli. Such a pity JR folded, though I think you can still buy them. I also have an Align TREX Pro 500. I am not real good with the helis though. And parts prices are eina, IF you can get the parts.
  15. The Germans have always been big in this hobby. But the hobby is salvageable. One just have to go back to the origins and scale back a bit. So many plans available on the internet for the old faithfulls like the Aeromaster, Trainer 40/60, Four Star 40/60, etc. The planes have just sort of crept to bigger and bigger in the last years, and everybody wanted a big plane with 100cc and bigger engines.
  16. Those Moki radials are magnificent tough.
  17. I am saddened by the slow demise of one of my favourite hobbies, being RC airplane kit building and flying. I am thinking of building a nice SIG Spacewalker 1/4 scale. Damn prices of kit like engines, electronic gear and covering have skyrocketed, not helping in the slow demise. To make it even worse, I own a JR radio, and they have folded few years ago.
  18. PhilipV has the first claim on this.
  19. I have one of those Thule Express type bike carriers that connects to the towbar and bikes fastened with rubbers up top. Mine is supposedly for 4 bikes, but realistically you can only get 3 on there. Free to any hubber that is willing to come get it from me, or I could meet me at Somerbosch, Helderberg trails or Geesloot in Somerset West / Strand area. Some of the rubbers might need replacement.
  20. They will when all the investers walk away.
  21. The ratings agencies will not take to kindly to that news.
  22. I usually keep between Makita, Bosch Blue and Festool, depending on my budget and how much better the more expensive tool is.
  23. The Hitachi Industrial line is not bad either. My belt sander is Hitachi and is still going strong, and comes in a nice carry bag.
  24. Thought I would leave this here. One of my super favourite research subjects of WW2 aviation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkWnHma45fk
  25. Watched Inception on Netflix this last weekend. Was actually quite interesting.
