  1. It's a board thing. I can take out a few surfers with my surfski. When a 6m long surfski comes tumbling along with a foamie the surfers paddle like hell to get out it's way.
  2. I have a different problem. My wife wants to drag me with her for a cycle every weekend. Consequently my other hobbies and sports are taking a beating. Don't even ask about gardening and general home upkeep. It's a mess around here.
  3. Have a funny story about a Pine cupholder for tootbrushes we had in our one bathroom. So it was mounted not far away from the toilet. One day my mother decided said cupholder was a great handle to use to pull her up from the toilet. A moment later she was sitting down abrubtly on the toilet with the horisontal piece of the cupholder in her hands. Pine; in my household known as Pinus Crappus.
  4. Ja, Rub it in. I know I fcked up. But I want to blame the Meranti all the same.
  5. Not yet. Only finished the table last weekend.
  6. So, I made an assembly table, to use as an outfeed table and a building table for my RC models. Top needs to be flat. Usual type of construction. Meranti base using stretchers and cross-braces with 21mm Birch ply top. Only to find the middle sagging by 5mm. Did not want to use Pine because our Pine these days are so damn wet. The Meranti I used for the strecthers were 69mm by 32mm. Thought that would be strong enough. Never though Meranti had such low bending strength. So my solution now is to build a storage bay in the middle using Birch ply to support the middle. If I think about it now I should have used Spruce for the base. More expensive than Meranti or Pine but cheaper than Beech or other hardwoods. Or would have used much wider strechers. You live and learn. Oh, BTW, the top is 1m by 2m.
  7. I despise Meranti. Don't ask. (Maybe do, a real sopstorie)
  8. Anybody in SA built a full scale Steen Skybolt D? Would love to look at one face to face. I bought plans for a 30% from Wendell Hostetler, and will probably start the build late next year.
  9. I am thinking of building gates with the same idea. My dogs gets way too excited when people walking their dogs passes my home. Maybe preventing them from seeing what is going on in the street would help. But then also they won't see dodgy bastards approaching my home.
  10. Always from their point of view.
  11. So I got the Kregg K4. As yous all say, I will not use it for everything. Just where it makes sense. And yes, I already looked at videos explaining which mistakes not to make. In general I am still a fan of joinery and glue. But for the bunch of workshop cabinets I want to make from plywood, it will be good enough.\ Currently building a worktable, which will double as a RC plane building table.
  12. My auto assesment came to about 3K more than last year. Seems to be in order. I don't have travel allowance anymore which makes things so much easier. Could not handle that logbook admin anymore, and these days I work so much more from home anyway.
  13. Fellows Are those Kreg pockethole joinery jigs any good? It looks a bit plasticy.
  14. Just got my SMS for auto assesment. I think I need some tools from BPM or Hardware Centre. Are that Kreg Pockethole Joinery Jigs any good?
  15. A lot of young Scottish lads lost their lives in KZN. A lot of those Scottish boys also got taken into Boer families, and married Boer daughters, which is why you see so many Afrikaner people with Scottish surnames.
  16. Still have a kids 20 inch bike rusting away in my garage. Free to anyone willing to come and pick it up at my place. Too darn lazy to clean it up and take to Cash Crusaders.
  17. That A380 is butt ugly. Justifies it's name.
  18. Well, it seams the Brits just can't design any type of engine without some or other issue. Ask any Leyland owner about their experiences with their cars.
  19. When that photo was taken I was probably sitting in my Standard 1 classroom about 1 to 2 km from there. We stayed in Rhodesfield for about all of my childhood and early 20s.
  20. I loved flying in a 747-400. When those 4 Rolls Royce engines spools up for take off it puts shivers into your spine.
  21. Techies have always gotton the short end of the stick, no matter what the industry is. That is primarily why I moved from being a mainframe techie to being a developer in 1990. Never looked back, although I love techie work.
  22. It's worse if she is a red head also.
  23. Elbow Grease and very fine steel wool bru.
  24. In a Joy Division type of mood today. BTW, whom of you can recognise another song from the 80s where that drum beat is used?
  25. That was damn good piloting skills. He also just touched down before that overhead wire.
