  1. I wont say inexperienced, think 8-9 years of training is enough experience 😝 but I get what you mean, its sad.
  2. Also thought about that Locum Drs in SA earn R450 per hour where they see 5 Patients.
  3. Fair enough πŸ’ͺ just compared it to a car wash and wanted to know your thoughts πŸ‘Œ
  4. Took my bike in for wash and lube and gear index and got charged R400. Happily paid and left, but started to wonder if it is reasonable?
  5. Jho
  6. Thanks EugeneπŸ™πŸ™
  7. Nice!! Where did you get the bolts for this ?
  8. I do gravel and road riding, have done my Munga training in them and going to ride in them. I can honestly say they are the best pair I own. Assos is just on another level.
  9. Hi Matt, Check out Assos tactica T5. I am the same height and weight as you. Have done a few very long rides in mine. Nice pockets also.
  10. I entered the Cape 500, but I saw now all the events are cancelled. Sad about it because it is my second race I prepped for this year that is cancelled. First one was ATP 300.
  11. Hi Sucramuk I am going to start at the time it was supposed to start at 21:00. Was thinking of driving to Protem Friday and just leave some water there so I can mix some carb drink because you pass there 2 times. Let me know then I can put some down for you too.
  12. I prepared for the race so I am still going to do the route unsupported. If someone is also considering this.
  13. I heard the 200miler has been cancelled due to lack of interest.
  14. I’ve done two of these events so far. The first was the Sedgefield 500 β€” just me and one of my best mates, back when I was still new to cycling. We bikepacked the whole thing. There were about 16 of us that year, and it turned out to be one of the best experiences I’ve ever had on a bike. The second time, I trained properly. It was the Franschhoek 500, and while it was a completely different ride, it still hit that same deep nerve. What the Gravalist is doing here isn’t just organizing events β€” it’s opening a door into ultra. It’s not about the medal, or the shoes, or the flashy kit. It’s about riding so far, for so long, that you start discovering new things β€” not just about the road, but about yourself. It’s about those moments in the mist, under the stars, in the middle of nowhere β€” when you feel the weight of the unknown and the thrill of total self-reliance. No support car, no safety net β€” and that in itself gives you a kick. And the no drafting rule is the best, there is no pro in the d bunch that makes everyone ride a hour faster. Some might say, β€œIsn’t it just a big ride?” Sure β€” but try telling your mates you went for a casual 500km spin. There’s something special about having a date on the calendar. A goal to train for. An excuse to ride. A reason to get out and push yourself. And honestly? R2,000 for an event like this is a no-brainer. These routes take you through the most beautiful parts of SA. So this feels like the best value around. I’ll be doing the Cape Hope 500 this October β€” and I can already say, this is the best money I’ve spent all year.
  15. Thanks πŸ™ got it πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ
  16. Does anyone know where we can get the GPX for the 160km?
  17. Hi all, I’m taking on The Munga later this year – 1,125km across the Karoo – to raise funds for a young boy in need of a prosthetic leg. I’m looking for a videographer who’d be willing to help document the journey, from training to race day, to help share the story and raise awareness. This would be a charity project, so I’m hoping to find someone who can assist at no cost, ideally someone passionate about storytelling, cycling, or making a difference. If you’re keen or know someone who might be, please reach out. Let’s chat! Key locations: Training: Gordon’s Bay and around Western Cape (Daily) Meeting the boy: Pietermaritzburg, 3 June Race: Bloemfontein to Wellington, through the Karoo (The Munga 26 November- 1st December) Thanks, Gert @docinthepeloton email: gertjie7771@gmail.com
  18. Anyone in Cape Town or Gordons Bay Area that services Kickr Core ?
  19. Dont know about the Reserve but me and my wife did a bike trip 2 years ago and we cycled along the beach from St Helena to Paternoster, was really beautiful. Enjoy
  20. So I have been living in Gordons bay for a year now and really like to ride gravel but dont have an idea where to do a nice gravel ride, so I thought it would be nice to have a thread where you post your strava route and a short description of the route and maybe something special about it, like a nice coffee place close by or roosterkoek next to road or whatever. I will post an example and then we can maybe have a collection of nice routes that we can go and explore. β€”->Stanford Gravel 65km Route Really good gravel, you start in Stanford from Ou Meul Bakery, you can park there. Short tar section then turn right onto gravel. Has a nice climb. When you get back ou Meul has lekke Coffee and can get a brekkie there. Here is a link to my activity https://strava.app.link/xZ0RjcR81Rb
  21. Hi does anyone have any update on this road that goes up from Gordons bay to the Steenbras Water Treatment Plant, it has been closed now for almost two years. https://www.news24.com/news24/community-newspaper/districtmail-helderberggazette/steenbras-access-road-remains-closed-20230509
  22. I cycle there almost every day. The stops are very short you will wait maybe a minute or two. There is currently 3 stops from GB to Rooi Els. Very nice route πŸ‘Œ
  23. Glad he is all right. Thanks for the response!
  24. The terrain was quite rough especially the first and the last 10km. (Did the 80km) Went past a guy that had a bad fall he was unconscious but there was all ready an official with him, does anyone know if he is all right? He was later picked up by an ambulance when I passed there again?
