  2. I have the optical hr and since i bought it about a month ago it's been all good. This morning i went out riding and the watch was showing no HR, stopped and restarted a few times but nothing for the 2 hour ride. No idea what to check for, anyone got some suggestions? thnx
  3. Any Open Water swimming in the Hermanus area apart from the sea? I am a bit sceptical about doing longer distances behind the breakers because of the sharks And also never see anyone swim in the lagoon either. thnx
  4. think their marketing backfired a bit on this. wonder if they would allow LA race?
  5. As someone who knows absolutely nothing about Drones but wants to get one, I see the following in favour of the Karma: - removable camera that i can use elsewhere - removable gimble to provide stability elsewhere - small & compact - etc. Against the Karma: - no "follow-me" function - no "come home" function - no "object avoidance" ps. still planning to ask Santa for one this X-mas
  6. Question time, I have a Polar RCX5 and am trying to figure out the best way to record my swim sessions (HR is crappy with the strap moving all the time). Let's say i have the following set to complete: 1x 300m warmup 3x (4x50), 100, 100 1x 100m cooldown How would you record this for TP? Would you do each section as a lap? Typically more interested in the speed than HR. Curious to hear your thoughts? thnx
  7. awesome
  8. Finally entered for EL Jan 2017 and although most likely a bit late already, I need to start looking at accommodation. Any suggestions for Hotels that is well located or possible ares if I go the AirBNB route? many thanks,
  9. I am a big fan of Froome & was exited by this years potential race battle with Contador, Porte & NQ all battling it out. Both Contador & Porte were unlucky and in the end NQ just never lived up to the expectation which in the end made it look like a dull tour with Froome dominating. But make no mistake, Froome & Sky showed that they are not only a powerful outfit but also extremely astute in tactical & strategic planning.
  10. Problem with this one is that the Cape could very well have a big frontal system move across in September still with possible snow on mountains making this potentially very cold?
  11. Thanks but been there & done that and still have the pains I started beginning of the year slowly - 30 min walk/run slowly building it up to around 8km over 3 months. The initial anterior pain subsided but never went away. I then changed shoes, and again started slowly with 2 runs a week and still only around 5km. Now it is posterior pain thou. During this time I have also done lots of strength training and continue to do so. Just need to shake this damm shin pains now!
  12. My shin are killing me, even on the smallest runs. Yesterday i did 40min on the treadmill and had to stop because of my shins - first it was anterior then i changed shoes and now it is posterior. Anyone know a good podiatrist or chiro in Sandton area?
  13. I wanted to do Bela Bela as I heard it was a nice intro for a novice like me but then realised we are away on holiday that time. Then I discovered the 11global event at Sun City in Oct and thought great, I can aim for that only to discover it is the same time as Berg & Bush Hoping I can find another one towards the end of the year in Gauteng.
  14. Just don't get too comfortable with this or too reliant on it. What I did was to swim with it for say 5 - 10 min, and then continued without it for the remainder of my sessions. These days I am not using it at all anymore.
  15. Eish brother, you and me in the same boat. I started in Feb this year and nearly drowned/emptied the pool at VA for like the first month. I then continued to struggle through it and eventually did a Total Immersion workshop which was great and helped alot. However I still somehow struggled. I have now put the other two disciplines on the backburner focussing only on swimming for June by having private lessons with the Total Immersion coach and every week it is getting better. I guess for us none swimmers it is just about determination and keep going at it........I hope
  16. it is simple actually - just some tolerance is required from all parties. If you have a slow car or a taxi going at 30km/h infront of you, you are not going to endanger yourself by overtaking when you can't - rather you will wait till it is safe........so why when it is a cyclist/s with a safety car the same rules do not apply? just go drive on the French mountain passed during summer to experience tolerance.........cyclist block the roads and motorists just sit quietly behind them.
  17. Wow - am surprised at this. I had issues with my battery which I bought a year ago and they are currently in the process of replacing it. Had no issues in getting this done.
  18. Seeing the same with the ParkRuns here in Bryanston on Sat mornings along the Spruit - no courtesy shown to fellow Spruit users.
  19. i often ride the spruit section (from Pick & Pay towards Cowley/Paulshof) in the mornings during the week around 7:30'ish, seems fine but i guess you always have to be on the look out.
  20. Damm looks impressive - where is this available in SA, jozi to be more specific?
  21. Been looking at this trainerroad.com - looks cool. What does their programs look like? where does one get the Ant+ USB dongle for this locally and what cost are you looking at?
  22. Jozi is awesome (as an ex-Cape Townian) Apart from the riding (Spruit is very convenient for quick weekly rides & Modderfontein for Wed Night rides) there are lots to see & do. Just venture out to the City, some awesome markets well worth a visit, in fact these are popping up all over lately. I said it before, Jozi is one of the friendliest places i have ever been ( and i even lived in Dublin for a few years)........untill we get in our cars!
  23. fark me, how quick is that tow-truck on the scene?
