  1. Shame man, sounds like you had a terrible trip. Hope you managed to get home wihtout too many more problems? It's strange to hear this, because I went on a JB train tour to the Argus in March and it wasn't bad. The whole train had only cyclists on it and the accomodation in Cape Town itself was amazing. I wasn't too impressed with the bathrooms on the train, but I am very fussy.
  2. Just be careful if you buy second hand that you either budget some money for a service/replacement parts, or that you know exactly what condition its in before you buy. Its pretty easy to check if the chain and casette are worn when you see the bike, and that can be a pretty big expense if they need to be replaced.
  3. Have you thought of riding through Lesotho? I haven't done it, but stayed at Sani Lodge in April and met two groups of guys who had ridden from Joburg to Clarens and then all the way through Lesotho. The Lesotho highlands are largely dirt road and its quite an experience to see it!
  4. I started mountain biking and road cycling at roughly the same time, and one thing that I've noticed is that mountain bikers tend to look down on roadies far more than the reverse. They accuse roadies of being uptight,of not greeting, of not helping, of buying the brand name stuff to prove how cool they are etc., the list goes on... Kind of ironic, because what they're actually saying is, "You're an idiot because you think you're so cool, and I think I'm cooler than you".
  5. Did you see him ride though, to confirm that he wasn't actually a decent rider? I'm asking because a few weeks ago I did the Lost City road race in takkies and a camelbak. I'm not the most organised person, so I drove the whole way there only to discover I'd left my shoes at home. I was seeded in AL, and I got a lot of funny looks with that number and takkies on, even though I dropped back and did the short race.
  6. I hope so!! Also on the waiting list...
  7. Excuse my ignorance, but PCRS??
  8. Dam, got lunch plans, but maybe a little later??
  9. I guess 9am isn't too bad Can't make tomorrow morning though. Divernick, wanna organise a ride sometime? Anybody else keen to join?
  10. Would love to join but I have to be at work earlier than I was today to get to the Spruit by 4... next time That's impressive, but when I jump it's not normally deliberate and I often land on my face Keen for tomorrow at 1- where were you thinking of starting? And how fast about?
  11. Any people who ride mtb in the afternoon on weekends? I'm not much of a morning person
  12. Good initiative. It's nice to see people actually doing something about this issue.
  13. Does anybody know how difficult it is to convert a front shock to remote lock-out, and about how much it costs?
  14. I don't have any problem with ladies being pushed, particularly as these people are obviously not racing for time, however, I have to ask, why is it that we set different standards for ladies and men? Why does a struggling lady get pushed whilst an overweight man in his 60s, struggling up a hill is just left alone? The Argus cut-off time is not so fast that the average Jill shouldn't be able to finish- maybe these ladies should be given moral support and be allowed the satisfaction of achieving the race entirely on their own steam? Personally, I've always been fairly offended at offers to push me.
  15. Thanks, not particularly keen on spending money on tires at the mo
  16. Hey hubbers I'm doing the Sabie Classic half marathon this weekend and am looking for some advice about tire choice. I somehow landed up with killer bee tubeless tires. I've since swapped the front one for a grippier tire, but I've left the back one as is. I haven't had any problem riding like this, mostly on the spruit etc, but was wondering if I should get a new tire before this weekend?
  17. Like the face paint idea
  18. Does anybody know what sort of price you're looking at for one of those camelbak vests? And doesn't your drink get all warm then?
