  1. 3 children and I think we currently own at least 20 kid's bikes. (I didn't plan it that way, but they now get loaned out long-term to friends and family who I don't feel I can charge.) If N+1 applies to me, then I see no reason it shouldn't apply to the kid's too
  2. If that's too many bikes, then I have a really BIG problem.
  3. Oh crap. I just paid R540 x2 - didn't notice the voucher code serves me right for trying to multitask and not reading all the info when paying....
  4. My broker told me the same thing and recommended Turnberry.
  5. You're still a week too early...
  6. I heard something similar - but they found a legal loophole - it's an automatically renewing lease?
  7. Happens to me too on my road bikes - been for setups and happens in 3 different pairs of shoes, but usually only happens when I race. Only my right big toe. Then I loosen my shoes a bit. Happened once long ago in an adventure race too with a different brand of trail running shoes to what I usually used. Took a week for normal sensation to return. Probably a compressed nerve. You can google the medical term - neuropraxia. Can take a few hours or days or weeks to resolve. [Reminds me about a lecture at varsity about Saturday night palsy - caused by falling asleep (drunk) with your arm hanging over the arm rest of a chair, compressing the radial nerve and causing a radial nerve neuropathy.]
  8. Thanks. Learning as I go - probably easier to try find some road type short-pull mechanical calipers at a good price. These things never go quite according to plan - thought I could use up some of my mtb spare parts lying around. Will have a nice charity box of stuff to give away soon that I haven't ended up using.
  9. Aha! Maybe I need the Travel Agent to get my brake setup working properly (Sram Red levers with mechanical disc brake rotors)! Where do you get them? going to look around... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0028MO2ZC/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&Apr14=Apr14&tag=justprofit-20
  10. Wow. Those look interesting. Red ones might look good on my monster cross attempt: Silverback Vida1 frame Java fork (I was thinking of going with a lower axle to crown length, but this is what I have) Stans Crest 29er wheels with Maxxis Rambler 40c tyres Rapide stem and gravel bar Sram Red 10speed shifter/brake levers XT crank with 42 chainring (doesn't look like I'll be able to get a 44 to clear the chainstay) Sram X9 RD Sram 11-36 cassette Tektro brake calipers (better than the Zoom calipers I tried first, going to see if the Hope calipers I have work any better) I also played with a Sunrace 11-46 cassette and a derailleur hanger extender, but found that I didn't need that gearing for the terrain I'll ride this bike on. I was going to use Shimano spare parts I have lying around, but found out that Sram mtb and road stuff plays nicer together than Shimano mtb and road stuff. Struggling with rotor rub. And I can't seem to get the brake cable pull just right - either too much rub or I hit the bars with the levers and the brakes still don't engage fully. Chain keeps dropping off the front chainring when I change down at the back - going to try using a front derailleur as a chain guide and eventually try a 1x 42 chainring (not ramped/pinned) - there has to be a way to make it work properly. And need to strip it at some stage to spray the frame and fork matte black with gloss black 'monstercross' decals I think. edit: I am also still playing with the chain line - I moved the double spacers for the BB to the non-drive side and the single spacer on the drive side and put Rapide chainring bolt spacers between the spider and the chainring.
  11. and slipping a pipe (even a seatpost) over the allan key handle works well for extra lever arm power when removing stubborn pedals and wearing gloves sometimes avoids some nasty grazes (have knocked the bricks under the bike or the chainrings a few times - think I've learnt my lesson!)
  12. And standing on cut pieces on the floor. The pain lasts longer than it should.
  13. Oh man, so glad to hear I'm not alone!
  14. The new credit cards with discovery bank automatically have a savings account attached I think.
  15. Still annoyed with my wife for losing her legacy membership
  16. And then the new Cape Union Voucher is valid for a few years
  17. Just go into Cape Union Mart with your wicode voucher and they will put it on a store card voucher for you - they were so helpful when my wife went in - the staff were actually the ones that recommended doing it.
  18. S-health has direct integration with discovery, as does Huawei health app. Both useful. And the apps are not limited to Samsung and Huawei devices.
  19. Been at the garage air compressor late at night too many times doing tubeless setups - better not to play late at night! But I have learnt that the top part of the compressor piece at the end of the metal pipe screws off on most garage hoses (but not all) and easier to get the tyre seated with the valve core removed. (on ghetto tubeless with standard tyres - tubeless wheels with tubeless tyres is usually simpler, but not always)
  20. Yes. Should have some stuff for you next week in Jhb. Amazing how things work out - one of the guys that works at my parent's complex was in an accident a while ago. He saw me on Wednesday morning and said he really wants to start riding again. Wednesday afternoon he had a new bike thanks to Chavo!
  21. This is interesting: You get automatic warranty extension of up to 24 months, as well as short-term protection against theft and accidental damage of purchases made with your Discovery Platinum and Black Card
  22. I've been in touch with Chavo to try collect next week when I'm in Cape Town and will bring back to Joburg and will meet up with you for the stuff I don't need.
  23. Awesome! Now I can dust off some nice 29er tyres in my cupboard to use. This is what I remember from long ago with converting 26" tyres, but also wanted to make sure. (I even used Schwalbe non-tubeless tyres with the thin porous side walls - not ideal, but eventually sealed up and stayed inflated once they had enough sealant dried to the sidewalls on the inside - at least they were light!)
  24. I was wondering the same thing with some tyres I have at home. Looking forward to some answers...
  25. Thanks! Managed to find it in the Android app now - there are 2 tabs at the top - portfolio and shortcuts - it's under shortcuts now.
