  1. Kati is the Race Director, different role entirely.
  2. Personally, think people are making more fuss than there actually is over this, and it seems opinion is pretty split on the idea. So maybe that itself is telling. Spoke to a friend who is starting out riding and she asked me about this event because she read the release and was frustrated by the lack of info even after emailing the address on the 'under construction site' She's damn fit and with a some riding experience will give most guys a hiding. What I really liked though was her comment to me at the end of talking about the event... "I like girl's weekends away, I get that not everyone see's the appeal of this event and sure may even be critical about it and that's great. But I really don't need any bra burners or 'dudes' to get on their high horse and be offended on my behalf, I'm an adult and I can decide for myself. Maybe they should find real things to deal with"
  3. A number of the ladies (including local) raised the point, Sally Bigham also raised a few points. Over the years the women's field has gained a lot more depth as well. Wines2Whales have also noticed this and allocated more prize money towards the women's category. It leaves the mixed category in the cold a bit, but lets face it. Mixed teams are really more for competitive amateurs not so much UCI level pros, elite women deserve the extra bit to bring their category closer to the elite men. These are the two categories that represent the pinnacle of competition. There's a lot of new ground being broken here by both the riders and organisations, so it can only set a good platform to work on going forward.
  4. As advertised, been riding with a pair for just over a month now. Prism lens is proper, zero tint change so visibility is constant when going into forest sections. Really becomes apparent when riding through those dappled light sections. For me, definitely riding with these as my default riding glasses, even used them a few times on the motorbike.
  5. Pretty much done with all of that, think they're gearing up on getting them to production and into market. Expected release date around Eurobike, more than likely a few weeks after they'll start being available. Personally quite like the Marathon Almotion for a nice all rounder on my CX bike. Commuting, road and sometimes CX Sundays, infused with beer and blood.
  6. Must have, mentions nothing of Ariane racing tomorrow. Just refers to her riding Sani2c with Cherise previously.
  7. Heres a little treat .... previously unpublished images from an assignment with the Hells Angels in the 1960s http://time.com/3506839/life-rides-with-hells-angels-1965/?xid=fbshare
  8. Also on Instagram, enjoy it far more than the other platforms .... https://instagram.com/dino_lloyd/
  9. A Spruit Fairy worked with JUMA. On both existing and new sections, the under bridge sections were there long before JUMA, although the concrete pillars at the river crossing near Pick n Pay on William Nicol was a result of JUMA.
  10. Anyone goto the Ducati Scrambler launch in Randburg yesterday? Got my times mixed up and missed it, the fomo slapped me like a red headed lover.
  11. Is that rim tape the shiny ultra thin stuff that Shan is bringing in?
  12. How so? Many a pro team race aluminum wheelsets with minimal maintenance issues. No wheelset is worth a damn if it isn't built properly. BMC use carbon wheelsets for their inherent stiffness but on the rougher courses like the Marathon route in Pmb last year, they opted for alloy wheelsets as they find them more forgiving. My own wheels (Stans Arch) have lasted two full seasons of racing xco and marathon events. Including training rides. This is their third year and they're still running as true and tensioned as the day I got them. The only thing I've done is strip them down, clean them, regrease the bearings/freehub etc and redo the tubeless setup with a cursory check by the workshop on the truing and tension. It's 80% down to the build of the wheel, be it carbon or alloy imo.
  13. No less than 4 teams inside the top ten GC including a strong stage win, and that's "very few" ? The mind boggles. Kevin and Max both come from XCO backgrounds incidentally. They didn't have their best epic most likely, they're human like everyone else. Bulls also fell short of their goals. That's racing. It's one thing to be disappointed in your team's efforts and another to be a dick about it. Says more about the commentator than the team's performance. Or maybe that's just old fashioned...
  14. Wow but people can be vindictive and quick with the daggers.
  15. This close to the event with the volume of logistics etc .... it's easy to second guess ANY decision the organisers would have made. Maybe they actually should have just cancelled the event, full stop. Because no matter what change or route decisions, there would be bitching that they should have, could have. If people are THAT precious about it, get dressed in full fire fighting gear and ride the 47kays.
  16. She'll stick with her 650b, really does prefer it for herself. Wonder if she'll go with a mohawk though, or a mullet
  17. Exxaro, ABSA, SAPPI, Songo.info, CSA etc are just some of the people involved with development riders. So what do you do? That "drol" has done a lot of good work with the LumoHawk foundation, and that roadie is a better rider and person than most of us. Your soapbox is slipping.
  18. No, you're thinking of Cycle Repair Centre
  19. Anyone do the DGR this weekend? Looked like a jol!
  20. Mate has a similar setup with the Suntour Epicon at 100mm, but it can be increased to 120mm. Highly underated fork that.
  21. Try Kameraz in Rosebank, speak to Johan or Pierre.
  22. Refer post above... I am not alone ..... Your barefoot running is enough punishment!
  23. At least in one area I know I'll be safe. With my metabolism I'll never need fat burning products, ever.
  24. Depends on what lens is paired up with the SLR? ... Me personally, if it's for a proper shoot and I need a down geared system. One body with the grip removed, two lenses (19-35 & 50mm 1.4) with one flash, multiblitz and flexi tripod for the flash, approx 20cm in length. A full setup goes in a Dakine camera bag with the extras and is comfortable enough on the bike. Phones have come a long way ito image quality, although I still find it a pain doing any post edits in PS or Lightroom on phone images. Generally use the phone on regular rides, but one of the best carry around cameras I've found is the Canon Powershot/Nikon equivalent. Sony, Olympus and Samsung also make some good cameras on this level, my experience is with the Canon and Nikon though. Megapixel count is highly relative though, a 9mp camera will produce better results than a 13mp phone camera. Mainly down to the size of the sensor capturing the pixel count.
  25. According to Dischem that's what they do, and and a number of products at Dischem have the Informed Sport certification, which is a costly exercise. So it's certainly in place on a few products, I know that the L-Glutamine from Biogen (which is partly owned by Dischem) is certified by Informed Sport. All that said, can you or anyone here say with 100% absolute certainty that if you were to have blood taken or pee in a cup that nothing would come up? I know I couldn't, I'm (like many others I'm sure) putting a lot of trust in labelling and the produce I buy. Not saying that's the case with this guy, but the precedent has been set.
