  1. An event does not have to be sanctioned to fulfill the legislative obligations required by law. A few rider's raced last year, so there's precedent. And even if the event was sanctioned it's not a UCI event. CSA use this nonsense to bully racing licence holders, it's flawed in it's entirety since inception as the "forbidden race rule". Besides which there isn't even a fully functional provincial body, which is required for the national body to enforce the 'UCI law' Really hope a rider/group takes on CSA in this regard and gives them a legal thrashing, like PPA did with the Argus. To date, CSA have not provided a clear and properly satisfactory response. IMO Hell, last year they pushed a presser with a headline about rider safety and sanctioned events and the actual content said eff all about safety. Just referenced the UCI rule and hyperbole about disciplining riders. Coincidently this was just before the JUMA after an apparent fall out between the organisers and CSA's toll collector.
  2. One annoyance as a seller, receiving an unsolicited SMS sans intro on a Sunday evening making an offer on an item for sale. Then the temerity to not return a missed call voicemail or WhatsApp.
  3. Racing incident, hindsight is a beautiful thing and actually a skill in itself to assess forward to the next event. Good race report and event, goes to show that we really need to kick Gauteng XCO back into touch.
  4. Newspaper works wonders at drying out things like shoes, gloves and helmet.
  5. Not sure anyone thought that would be a silver bullet and in the space of two weeks and one event there would be a rush of pro women pitching up in Sabie. Think the women's podium deserved every cent of that equal prize money this weekend. That said, there should really be more support from the women racers, let's see at the other events by end of the season. Something some of the top women are saying as well.
  6. Monsoir Max did his on a full stock standard (DH) mountain bike, everything on his bike can be bought off the shelf.
  7. Far as I know yes, definitely in recent history at least.
  8. Think any coach/parent that acts like that needs one warning, then a ban the second time. Seen enough crap like that at other school's sport events.
  9. Funny how people, generally, bleat about spending the equivalent or less ZAR on access to a WC event and trail fees. But in the same breath will spend that or more on socks or a water bottle. Buy the damn ticket, I'll give you a pair of socks in a bottle man.
  10. Yes, they do a marketing measurement as well an audit of financials. Would be worried if an investment bank didn't do at least a due diligence. Ariane herself has commended the work and standard of events that Advendurance set as an example. So sure, maybe her and Fritz possibly have an adversarial relationship, but they at least acknowledge each other in their own right. Notice a lot of people have been making some very personal remarks towards Fritz Pienaar, personally feel that's a double standard given some of the content of those remarkd, and in the entire context of the debate raises question over their motives. Opposite sides of the same coin still make it the same coin.
  11. Would say the racing in 2016 is a clear answer to that, the clear favourites were under a lot of pressure and had at least one of the teams not had a rider pull out. We may well have seen a different result. Also considering that a couple of the riders were/are past and current World Cup Champs, World Champs and Olympic medalists/contenders shows that the field is better. Including looking at the team pairings for 2017.
  12. Nothing that can't be accommodated though, either way it's good news more than anything else for a WC event to be returning to South Africa.
  13. Sunday pedal at Suikerbosrand ... SBR Pedal Post edit in PS Express/Lightroom
  14. Went to SBR again after a long long time. Actually such a riding gem, had a good outing with mates. https://www.instagram.com/p/BPVLwFHBLwj/?taken-by=dino_lloyd
  15. You'd honestly be surprised at his business acumen and experience, being a known athlete is obviously a major boost as well.
  16. Tell you what at the launch there were a few rugrats who could well ride the pants of most people on here.
  17. Actually a well known rider and cycling personality who lives and breathes cycling, works for Specialized SA. Originally from KZN and based in Jhb. Does a huge amount of good for Qhubeka bikes with numerous everesting rides that are done around the country.
  18. This is great, bet it won't even make 6 pages of the Hincapie thread though.
  19. After, Hincapies ban was before. Says Kevin Vermaak, founder of the race: “As of 1 January 2013, any athlete (professional or amateur) caught using performance enhancing substances, whether at another event or out of competition, will be banned for life from participating in the Absa Cape Epic. Vermaak continues: “We’ve chosen not to apply this retrospectively because we believe that would be naive. As has been exposed in recent months, cycling has a dark past. http://www.cape-epic.com/news/409/lifetime-ban-for-doping-offenders/
  20. Just, only just. He accepted his ban late 2012, while the Cape Epic instituted the lifetime ban as of Jan 2013.
  21. Panoramic at Boschendal/Bartiney before we descended Skyfall to ride through Banhoek. What a ride! Shot and edited on iPhone.
  22. Bad marketing strategy? That's like preaching to the converted, a social media/fb promo follows or aligns to media campaign.
  23. Reading this is like watching a Fees Must Fall protest.
  24. What taxing? They're building a snapshot of the totality of the Spruit to develop a trail plan for everyone. With all the activity of thousands of different users it's needed and long overdue. https://www.bikehub.co.za/features/_/articles/routes-trails/braamfontein-spruit-adventure-trail-management-plan-r5242?source=related
