  1. RobM - I experienced this condition during the Panorama this year and my experience is that absolute rest for no less than 6 weeks, but preferrably more, combined with specific stretching exercises have put me back on the bike with no re-occurrences. The cause though is something you need to resolve - mine was definitely set-up...I had messed with my saddle just prior to the tour and paid for it.
  2. No doubt the sentiment bandied about on the Hub had the desired effect. Big up to Colin for making amends....in his own way.
  3. ..have a problem with his response...the initial problem may have been accepted easier with a response in the forthcoming manner we have come to know rather than a "winningtime" special!
  4. Fanie...drink more...you're on a roll!
  5. Just read this thread now and my immediate response is....talk about sh*tting on your own doorstep... Colins response is a typical "Winningtime" one and it's regrettable that it came from Championchip. I agree with a previous comment....we're being treated like we should all be subservient idiots.
  6. Received this link in the current Roadbikerider http://www.roadbikerider.com/producttests.htm
  7. Thanks Ivanb will try that. What effect will that move have on the other aspects of the ride...flats and climbs?
  8. We ride the TT Q Rings (54/42) on the tandem and can state that: 1. There is definitely an improvement in our ability to "turn over" a heavier gear. 2. Recurring knee pain (age related )in races has gone completely. 3. Top end speed has been curtailed somewhat - spinning out at between 70-80 kph. Stoker does not see this as a bad thing! So......recommended by an aging enthusiast
  9. Garmin also operates using digital transmission technology, along the lines of Suunto, as opposed to analog on the polars at present. Far fewer problems with readings. Believe polar will go digital shortly I'm told.

It seems that there are some of us that loose sight of the real reason that we ride - the enjoyment and pleasure of the bike and the journey. Personally I don't have faith in, or time for,the politicians and bureacrats within the cycling camp who would rather seek reasons not to hold a ride, any ride, rather than putting their efforts into ensuring that it does go ahead for the benefit of all. Go ahead....shoot me down....we ride 9 June.
  11. Maverick - when other guys make fun of you and your mom reassures you by saying you're a very special one.....you really believe that, hey?
  12. I'll spell it slowly for you Maverick..... s..u..g..g..e..s..t something you pillock.
  13. Maverick, put some solutions forward, don't just question. We for one are not strong but try to do our share at the front - we also get gatvol of the singles that believe the tandems are there to pull them and once a tandem is in front believe it's their right to just follow
  14. We've been riding the TT Q-rings on our tandem for the past few weeks. Whilst we are not even close to a position where we expect to see a significant difference in power, one of the other benefits put forward by the suppliers is the relief of stress on the knees and therefore less pain. We have both suffered, in varying degrees, from knee pain despite our bike being professionally set-up and if there is one major and positive impact that has sold us on these rings it is that we have both experienced total relief from knee pain. It is literally a thing of the past. They come with a positive recommendation from us.
  15. Linnega - we must agree , we certainly expected a lot more out of the organisation considering it cost us R320 for the tandem entry (in the region of the 94.7 and other huge races). Big gripe was the water at the end of the race - feeling slaughtered as we were the last thing I want is a warm bottle of water!! There was a huge drop in entries that we can only put down to the pro's riding the Herald in P.E and the rest of the would-be entrants balking at the cost. There needs to be some serious reconsideration by the organisers if they are to save this race in the future.
  16. "The fourth and final race of the Liberty Life Criterium Series which was scheduled to take place on Friday January 19th in Umhlanga has been cancelled due to an inadequate number of cyclists registering for the race" - supercycling Surely with prize money of R100 000 up for grabs we should have been able to muster enough riders to justify a race? Maybe the Xmas bonus was good enough to just give this one a miss.....naaah, its just our national pastime creeping in......APATHY! What a poor show.
  17. ai-yai-yai - geez my butt just clenches at the sight of that.
  18. Very sorry about the bad luck - We know you were looking forward to a good race and how much you cycling means to you. All the best for your recovery.
  19. Seems like a good enough reason for peri-peri chicken and prawns....yeah, I think we'll celebrate your birthday BigH. Have a great one and all the best for the year ahead.
  20. Use a Maxxis Detonator and after 4000 k's on the tacx flow the tyre literally disintegrated over a section of about 10 cm. Tried to remove the tube but it's melted onto the inside of the tyre! smileys/smiley5.gif Anyway just put that on the front and front to the rear. Only use the bike on the trainer. 4000k's ain't too bad smileys/smiley4.gif
  21. Will go with Dick on the saddle....... jeez that don't sound right smileys/smiley36.gif smileys/smiley36.gif.... the Gobi works for me
