  1. Another great event! Johan, routes was perfect. Bietjie van alles. A lot less people doing the full this time vs Heia (279 vs 560). Wonder why? People scared of hakahana or another event on same day / 5150 tomorrow?? First run was proper and good. Better then the mountaineering at Heia. Bike leg was tough with some proper climbs - hakahana style :-) Last run was good - not the survival of Heia - at least "runnable". Managed a 2:25. Chuffed seeing that i haven't been on the bike since taking a major tumble 3 weeks ago and damaging AC joint in right shoulder. The. stumbled over rock today and fell on same shoulder; eish!!! 2 weeks to Dualx 3; should be another great event! Well done Wessel/Johan on routes today; the little bit of traffic (when full joined other races) wasn't so bad. Here or there a slight hold-up but all good. See u all for #3
  2. Can't wait for this one :-)
  3. Sounds lekker Johan! Will you supply route profiles?
  4. it looked worse than what it was... for a split second I was in 2 minds and then the shame went through my mind telling my fellow MTB friends that I took a chicken run on a DUATHLON race.... then I took the bridge and it wasn't so bad.
  5. In for the another full. Looking forward to this one as I've done plenty of riding at Hakahana (all the trails) and know them well. It can help if you know what to expect
  6. DualX 1 was tougher than what I expected. This was my first outing at Heia. That first 5km run up/down was proper! Bike leg was good; switchbacks will get the better of you if you're not fit and used to it. Overall a good event and start to the DualX series. Looking forward to Hakahana; know the trails well :-). Can be another very tough day out there!!
  7. Any race at Hakahana is a survival :-)
  8. Was proper. 2:38 for me for the full :-)
  9. DualX 1 was tougher than what I expected. This was my first outing at Heia. That first 5km run up/down was proper! Bike leg was good; switchbacks will get the better of you if you're not fit and used to it. Overall a good event and start to the DualX series. Looking forward to Hakahana; know the trails well :-) Anyone know where the results will be? Photos?
  10. I measured 1,080m with Garmin Edge 500; so very similar to you!
  11. Enjoyed this one! Will be back next year. The sand made it interesting! The big climb was a good test of fitness, skills en strenght. Rest of the route was okish. Waterpoints was good. Managed a 4:18 from C batch.
  12. Does anyone know where the start of the race is? Does it start from the Caravan park? Does one enter from the R516 side into the Mabaligwe resort? Wessel, profiles or at least water point (kms)?
  13. Might be mistaken, but I think they first filled A (with first entries) and then moved to B (after A was full).
  14. Looking forward to doing this event for first time... once mates confirm we'll be in for marathon :-)
  15. Can't make this year, but definately on the bucket list for 2015 ????
  16. Rant start... A day or so ago I received a mail from SAS seeding with my van gaalen result. All good and well, except the SAS number is NOT my number. Going to the SAS website there is no results against my number; however my race results appear under the number that's on the email I received. It looks like SAS has hone and changes my number without notice or any warning/reason. A mate of mine has exactly the same issue; although his is worse.. The new number they've given him is also linked to another person. I think SAS has a system stuff-up!!!! Also, a week or so ago I saw my name and surname is swapped. I mailed them to rectify; the response was quick and problem resolved. Now it's swappwd again. Has anyone else had this type of problem? Stop rant...
  17. Are you using the cadence senser? If so, the Garmin Edge 500 takes the wheel size to determine distance and not GPS. In this case your wheel size should be configured.
  18. 74.81km & 1354m ascent with a garmin edge 500
  19. http://www.jumpertrax.com But it looks like it's not yet out. Probably only be there after tomorrow's half & fun races.
  20. Ouch; what a tough race. I quess Van Gaalen is not the best choice for one's first proper marathon. Did Cullinan the other day, but this is a different level. Only last climb got me. Everything up to 55km was good and very enjoyable. Last climb was really tough. But made it to the end in one piece. Long day out, but very nice route! Great event Wessel!
  21. Nope - tested it with 2 different digital gauges - same reading. Took bike to bike shop 2 weeks ago and rims are true and sound :-) I mighty add it's ztr crest build by Ruan (spoke works).
  22. 67kg Back: schwalbe racing ralph: 1.0bar Front: schwalbe rocket ron: 0.8bar Did this on magalies monster's half and seamed to be fine on the rocky sections. Have been riding this pressure for the past year or so on mtn/nissan/other races. Should I go higher for van gaalen marathon? First time doing this marathon.
  23. Magalies Monster's half. The riding at Hakahana can be tough because of the technical / rocky ascents and descents. The climbing there makes your heart race... it's not long steady climbs.. it's steep, nasty climbs (assuming they take the half up the black route & red route climbs - which I don't know if they'll do that).
  24. Upgraded my entry from half to marathon Hope I'm not going to regret it... I'll have Father's day on Sunday to sleep it / walk it off Looking forward to it!!
