Hi fellow hubbers, We're considering doing the Barberton XCM (7 May) and looking for self-catering accommodation in or close to Barberton. There are obviously lots of places (when searching on the web), but one never knows what you find.... Are there any places you can recommend that you stayed in recently. Looking for a more "luxury"/neater place. Some of the nicer looking places are already fully booked. Appreciate any input.

Can one still park at the garage/farmer or better to take the landy to the top and park there?

Also road it solo a couple of times. Would like to do this ride again.

Done both; Berg & Bush gets my vote. Went back for. 2nd pre covid and will do it again in future!

Agree that Crossways is worth the drive. Lots of nice trails and views 👍🏻

Had a side wall cut that I plugged, but it kept loosing air with the tyre flexing. Put sikaflex around the plug and problem solved.

I used the whatsapp nr and asked about seeding & times. Response was that info will be mailed week before the race

Do they also send a mail with the seeding/start time for the MTB event?

Ariana is 175cm and probably rides a Medium. Other Orbea KMC riders: Victor Koretzky, Thomas Litcher, Milan Vader… Victor has a couple of wins and good races on his OIZ in 2021 (XCO)

Hi I have an Orbea Oiz (small frame). The small only takes 1 bottle. I haven’t dealt with Orbea SA. I bought a frame through Bernard at Fluidlines. But I believe he discontinued importing Orbea’s. you can check with him: bernard@fluidlines.co.za i bought the frame in Aug 2019 (if I recall). Did a custom build. The frame I have is the same is the latest (2021 version). They now do a TR build as well (120mm travel front & back). The frame I bought is 100mm travel to which I fitted a 100mm fork. Frame is the same, the TR just have different tunes shock and 120mm fork. my build came in at 10.03kg. I did fit a dropper recently which does add some weight, but still under 10.7kg the bike itself is a dream. I have had a silverback (hard tail), giant anthem, custom build on Chinese frame, Pivot Mach 429, Momsen Vipa & the Orbea OIZ. The orbea is by far the best all round bike. Pivot was also 100mm. descending on the pivot was better; more confidence inspiring. I scared myself on it going downhill. Climbing wasn’t as good as the Oiz. Climbing with the oiz is the best of all the bikes i’ve had. Really good climbing & descending 2nd behind the pivot. But overall the best bike I’ve had (& have). I didn’t know there was an orbea SA ‘dealer’. I know there is an orbea concept store somewhere, but not sure they stock all bikes or import all. Please send me the details (if you have). I also ride Wolwespruit, Voortrekker, BRB, etc. I do do drops and jumps and have never felt that the bike is ‘flimsy’. With the VIPA I sometimes wonder when a jump is going to end in disaster (bike cracking under me). The oiz feel solid!! I love the oiz, maneuverability is awesome. I only have good things; no issues, nor complaints in the 2 years I have had the bike. All cable routing is internal. The onlu negative I have is the single bottle on the small, but then I haven’t found any bike (small) that can take 2 bottles.

Did a professional bike fitting and small is the correct frame size for my 1.66m ride a Momsen Vipa (XC), but enjoy technical riding.

I’ve looked around for a dropper post that has a 20mm setback. The only one I could find is KS Lev. My bike cannot take a seatpost longer than 380mm considering my height - only use 220mm of seatpost (on the outside of the frame) - rest needs to be inside ???? who is the resellers/distributor of KS Lev in SA? or what alternatives is there with setback?

We do this as part of our bigger “loops”.

My son & I ride this route almost every week since lockdown allowed and before lockdown started. Never felt unsafe.

My son has a GX chain... I’ll have a look at his chain today. BUT... we make key-rings of the excess chain (when shortening it) and then hang them on keys or on school bags, etc. So really not tension on this “toy-chain” at all. AND my son says he has seen this on the left over chain. So, this is no weight, tension, neglect problem - this must be a manufacturing stuff-up!!

I rode in Groenkloof in November on a Saturday and there were very few cyclists. A number of hikers though. Trails are not maintained or not enough wheels to keep the trails free from grass, etc. Personally I think Groenkloof is becoming a hikers place an mountain biking there is coming to an end

The one has proper padding; the other very ‘basic padding’. I have both. The problem with the basic padding is the it is covered with a material that losens over time and rimple which then causes potential problem for your @ss :-) I would rather spend the extra money and get the propper padding.

Tread Skills Clinic at Avianto (intermediate 2) Instructor was Sean Badenhorst (he knows his stuff, can ride and teach) Some nice technical bits at Avianto (first time there in 2 years) Now to go and practise ????

I have 2 bikes - both bikes have the exact same Hope Pro Evo hubs. Plus I'm using the same fox fork on both - slightly different models. Still, when I swap wheels I have to reset callipers. So, I don't think plug & play is a given, even if you use the same kit on both bikes.

Done 3 halfs... One of my favorite races - by a lomg shot!!! 2015... Going for full ????
