  1. Entered today for the half; will be my 3rd half. Was hoping to do the marathon at some point, but busy recovering from a broken leg. Entered son for the 20km (10 yeras).
  2. Also bought from Evo / Janos a number of times and always receive good service!
  3. +1 Saturday races; Sunday is family time and church time :-)
  4. Entered for my 3rd 21.1km (3rd year in a row). Broke my Fibula a week ago in a mountain bike race... so, I'm just hoping to be able to start training again in 5 to 6 weeks and then get 5 to 6 weeks training done before the event. So, not aiming for any particular time, just aiming to be ready to run I can't give any tips on the Ultra, but for the 21..... 1. Get a seeding... going off in batch E or even D is insane (too many people) 2. Watch out for not tripping / stumbling / falling at the start (with all the runners) & it's still a bit dark at 6:00. With the race being later in April this year... it will be worse 3. Get to Southern Cross drive before the masses... else you'll walk up there 4. Save some energy for Southern Cross drive 5. It's a GREAT race - enjoy & smell the roses 6. If you run with the pace setters (example 2:00 or 1:45 runners), keep an eye on your own pace. Last year a number of the 2:00 pace setters didn't make it within 2:00 7. Get to the start at about 5:00 or a little earlier... parking close to the start is a nightmare 8. The bus services at the finish to the parking areas works well Here's a link to my race profile from last year: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/291004998
  5. Email reservations@dullstroom.biz I've just cancelled accommodation for 3 adults for the Friday and Saturday at Connemara Close-Executive Units because we cannot go anymore. Hope you get place.
  6. I need to stop watching this thread.... the more I read / see the more dissapointed I am for not being able to ride... entered for Marathon, but broke my leg last weekend :-( I was so much looking forward to the race / weekend in Dullstroom!
  7. The non 27.5 / 650b club :-)
  8. 26" Silverback Phoenix small to 29er Giant Anthem X small Very happy with choice
  9. Insurance will not pay if it's manufacturing defect; which (by reading about the number of bikes/riders that have same problem) it sounds like it's the case. Insurance will only pay if it brakes in an accident (depending on the individual insurance cover/company)
  10. In this day and age of electronic devices I will not be printing anything nor carry anything with me.... If they ask, I will give them my membership number (which is like all my info on the phone - which I have with me). They can then check if it's paid up to date!!! What a bunch of old school #$^&*%@!
  11. I came crashing down on Saturday... went from bike, head first into the ground. Broke my leg, but I'm so thankful for my helmet. I don't want to think what could have happened without a helmet. 80/20.... in 80% of accidents (and more) a safety belt will save your life, in some it will not... my wife survived a car accident (car caught fire and exploded) by not wearing a safetybelt (she got thrown out the car before it caugth fire). So the 20% cases does exist.... however, I'll take my chances on the 80% and not the 20% and wear my safetybelt & helmet!!
  12. yip me & another rider got tangled about 50meters from the finish line (both sprinting to the finish); were to close to each other and we bailed. Not sure what happend with the leg, but with the fall, I felt it and knew that was not normal :-( Just bad luck that it broke.
  13. here's the complete profile: http://www.endomondo.com/embed/workouts?w=sPu64gw04Tc riding clockwise
  14. Looking at the profile I'm even more depro now... Entered for the marathon; would have been my first MTN marathon but broke my leg this weekend at the USN race in a freak accident :-(
  15. hi, I did some more riding there in January 2014 (holiday). I did two rides, if you PM me I'll send you the GPX files of the 2 rides, plus last year's ride I did there. The sceneray is great & the riding tough, but awesome. 1st ride was with my son: +- 20km and 375m ascent. 2nd ride was on my own: +- 40km and 875m ascent. A couple of things you need to know if you ride at the AllOUTAdventure trails / in the area. The tracks are mainly single track which is very narrow and deep. Even with my 29er and 165mm crank I often hit the side walls / obstacles within the track. I guess the rain is eroding the trails and they've definately deepened from when I rode in 2013 vs 2014. Secondly the trails are not ridden often / by many people so the plants and stuff grow into the trails; some places the trail wasn't so clear... not that you'll get lost, it's just not fun riding through / over the grass. Thirdly, the grass (growing over the trails) in that area has tics. So get yourself some of those stuff at OUTdoorwarehouse that you spray on your clothes (possibly avoid ticbites). But, let me conclude, the riding there is really awesome; I wouldn't let the above "negative" points avoid me from going back there ! cheers
  16. I bought him a 24" bike (Momsen JSL 40) and one do not get foldable tyres for 24" rims (that's 1.75 or round about). I tried to convert the beaded tyre to tubeless, but it doesn't hold pressure. So we went the green slime route and those "plastic" inserts you put in the tyre to prevent the thorns from reaching the tube. That seams to do the trick; however I want him to be prepared to fix a tyre onroute in any event :-)
  17. Nice!! My son did his first event by himself. I've either ridden with him or had an older boy ride with him on his previous events. So this was the first for him all by himself. Friday night we practise fixing tubes, replacing tubes, etc :-) He really enjoyed yesterday; so I hope he gets hooked (like I am) :-)
  18. Tx for the whishes gents; i hope it heals quickly as I've also entered for two oceans (April) and plane & accommodation booked and paid for :-( See you soon on the trails !!
  19. Did the 50km & almost didn't finish. Got tangle with another rider 50meter before the finish line & bailed - both of us. Both sprint for finish and I got too close to him and handle bars tangled; epic bail. The other rider was obviously and understandably upset, but not once rude; a bit sarcastic, but I fully understand. I guess we were both excited to chase the finish line and I'm not sure how it got to the point where we were too close to each other. Hope the other rider read this: sorry mate!!! Totally unintensional and a mistake to get so close to other riders. Glad to see you got up and finished the race. Hope you / your bike is ok. For my part; I broke my tibia; so out of action for 2 to 5 weeks probably. Very bad timing as I've already entered for dullstroom marathon and sabie marathon and half :-(. Timing of this really sucks, but I guess this can happen to anyone, any time, any place; freak accident. Really enjoyed the race though! Not major conjestion. Will definately go back.

    Bombs & stans

Pitty, I thought of doing that after my ride, but now it's 2 weeks later.... so I will probably have to open, remove stans and replace
  21. Hello hubbers Is there any truth that bombs affect stans (in tubeless conversions)? Some people say / rumour has it that the bombs react with the stans and affect the stans' composition and that one should not inflate with bombs OR at least replace stans after one have used a bomb to inflate. I've used bombs many times over the past 3 years to inflate tubeless tyres and never had any problems with stans sealing punctures - so as far as I'm concerned it's a rumour. However, is there any other opinions out there / scientific arguments against my theory (that bombs do not affect stans or the ability of stans to patch a puncture). Thanks!
  22. Not sure if the route is the same, but I should have garmin profile from june 2013 race. I'll try to find tomorrow and post link.
  23. First race for 2014; in for the 50km Looking forward to getting onto the bike
  24. I'm 1.65 and have had 2 x small 29ers - loved/love both. Giant anthem x (DS) and then build my own bike onto chinese 29er small frame. I feel more comfortable with a smaller bike - I do sit a bit upright due to back problems & have a very short stem (50mm); do not feel cramped at all.
