  1. Hmmm... this thread looks in danger of being hijacked... do I need to offer birthday cake after the ride?!
  2. Clarification: This will be a road ride. The person in question is not allowed to come play in the mud yet.
  3. Someone I know is celebrating a birthday on the 16th June and I thought I'd put together a ride to celebrate (heck any excuse to get Hubbers together!) Whatdya all think of a nice Magaliesberg ride on the public holiday?! I can probably even rope in a support vehicle in the shape of my husband (he has the orange flashing light and is always looking for a reason to use it!)
  4. EEUUUU!! On a serious note, a Buff works great as a balaclava. Thin, breathable fabric, you can pull up over nose, or down around neck...
  5. Sorry hon, once you're married, you have 2 mothers on Mother's Day!! I have to schedule one in the morning and one in the afternoon. This is a bad weekend isn't it?
  6. You've scared everyone off! They don't want to ride hills!!
  7. SP, might be doing the MTB race in Magalies. It'll be my first, so pretty keen...
  8. Hey DR, might be going out to Logwood on Monday (darn that place is addictive!). Keen to MTB?
  9. Hmmm, I'll have to see! I think I'll be the first to use the backup!! We have half a plan to go down to Karkloof, but if that falls through, I'm there like a bear... after all those hills I'll be there like a bear with a sore head!!!
  10. Thanks Michelle! Looks really good! BigBen, if you can dream it, you can achieve it. But my advice is, start practicing at Logwood to get your techie skills up!
  11. Mmm... chocolates and hot cross buns! Now you've got me started agan! Just kidding. This is an area I need to start working on, just haven't had the inclination to start ( maybe this week?!). My plan is the same, cut out choc, no fizzy drinks (not really having any now), no carbs after 6pm and smaller portions. Interestingly, my dad has lost weight and he definitely had the advantage on me in Wilro (and his seeding index for Tour Durban and Wilro is down 5 points!)
  12. 6:30 it is. What is the route? Need to work out where my turnaround is...
  13. I gotta be home by 8, but keen for a short ride. Mail me the plans as they develop? Need to get offline...!
  14. Sounds great Sonic! She's beautiful, just ask slowpoke! How is your bike, head, new helmet, etc after the 'unfortunate incident'?
  15. Droster, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! We'll miss you, but no chocolate money for you! (Did we mention chocolate AGAIN?!!!!)smileys/smiley4.gif Where are all you wusses? I want to see huge turnout people!
  16. PS, never ridden it, some sections could be quite narrow, start early?
  17. From Northcliff corner, head out along Milner to first right into Alida. Some circles and speed bumps, then follow onto <?:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /> Anderson Ave (rd merges from right, then Anderson goes up the hill to the right). Turn 1st left into Hearn Dr, 1st right is Louie Av. You should be at the highest point now! Alternatively, turn left on Beyers Naude to Frederick Dr, you meet up on Alida turn right up Anderson at the same point. http://www.brabysmaps.co.za/wheels24/map_view.asp?q=scale}0. 01{x}27.97886{y}-26.146342
  18. Good advice from cervelo. I've done horse rides through Krugersdorp with Discover Lodge, they might be able to give you some ideas (plus the lions are fenced in, so maybe ride the reserve?) Also, Logwood directions on www.cultcycling.co.za. I'd guess at least half an hour drive! Maybe see if Allan Laudin from Swampdogs has suggestions for you, he rides quite a lot of routes in the Lanseria district. Good luck and enjoy!
  19. Sorry IanJ, but by 6:30 I'll be an hour outside of Jhb on my way to Pmb for a christening! Don't ask, I'm going to see if I can at least find an hour of MTB heaven on my way home...
  20. Sorry hon, don't think I can make this one. But I'll let you know
  21. Went to Droster Renoster's charity spinnathon on Saturday and I can attest to the fact that changing bike position (i.e. riding without hands) is hugely beneficial. I hurt in place I never knew existed! I am looking to start spinning this winter, if I can find a gym with a good class at the right time. BigBen, this may be a better option?

Hahahahahaha! I can picture the scene! Even if you wear a stocking over your head, they'll ID you by your Actionphoto number on your helmet!!!smileys/smiley36.gif
  23. Ouch! At least it wasn't a more serious crash! Where do you live? Western suburbs? We have a number of green belts around us, was wondering if it was there...
  24. Not going to commit to any rides for Sunday just yet (have a function in Sandton at 9:30) BUT I'm doing a 20km test ride to see if my cold virus is gone! Yippee!!smileys/smiley1.gif
  25. Thanks Sir Fed. Bit worried as I took Thursday off and stayed in bed, spent Friday afternoon in bed, Saturday most of the day in bed and I'm still not recovering. It's moved from just sniffles to coughing and running nose (got an infection now). 5 small meals, check. Vitamins, check. Liquids, check. Staying away from dairy as well. I'm starting to suffer separation anxiety from my bike! I'm staying off my bike for now to make sure I don't get worse. I'll let you know how I progress towards health! (Positive thinking!)
