  1. Whilst we on the topic, does anyone have advice for setting up a mountain bike? My dad has given me his old Kona, and it has a much more aggressive setup than my Schwinn. I'm fairly happy with the ride (been on one 16km ride smileys/smiley9.gif), but I'm concerned that I'm too far over the front wheel. When in a riding position, if I look down, I can see the front hub closer than the handlebars (so much so that I look straight down the front shock!) Advice?
  2. I agree, very nice bike and she will be punished around Phambili on Sunday! I find that she can be a bit heavy, but the geometry is really nice to ride (not too aggressive so easier to learn on in my opinion). I might be moving to a more agressive frame soon, but Shwinn is a good choice. Mine has been beaten up; from an endo that tore my AC joint in my shoulder, to mud swims, stream crossings, jolting downhills, etc! And she's stood the test!!
  3. Sounds like Mud Dee has it worse than us! Fatcyclist, there's no way we're going out riding in these icy (OK at least frosty) conditions! But it's great to hear that you're out there 'doing it'!
  4. Hahahahaha! I can't ride straight as it is, imagine the chaos if I had green muffins?! Sorry folks, not a good option around my family, been down that road... OK, I may be husband-less if he decides to go climbing for the weekend. But ewep and I are there like a bear!
  5. So... how was it? I had a really slow and relaxed Sunday (needed one!). I think B and I evetually got out of bed after 11am, went to visit a friend with her new guide dog puppy (the cutest chocolate Lab girl that they're puppy walking!). Then I did a nice 16km ride on the Spruit with my dad to try out the old Kona that he's set up for me. All in all, a relaxed day! From one of the other threads, sounds like a good amount of climbing was done? MichelleH38901.4140509259
  6. Hey Chrissie, Is it wise to change right before the event? Shouldn't you try them out on a training ride first?
  7. Let's see, it's only in October... lots of time to prepare...
  8. I'm almost definitely doing the Crater Cruise, so support shouldn't be a problem i.e. support car with space (man I never knew I could love one car so much! smileys/smiley4.gif) Re the 150km, do you really think I could be ready? We stopped a few times on Sunday and I was broken afterwards! Sounds really good though...
  9. I'm with DT and IanJ, I HATE my indoor trainer! I haven't used it once this wnter, opting to brave the cold whenever possible. But you're all right, I should be fitting in an hour or so twice a week (sigh)
  10. Sounds good, just don't think I'm ready for 150km yet...
  11. Think someone's got a new toy?!!!smileys/smiley1.gif And now ewep tells me it got down to MINUS 4 DEGREES!!!
  12. Sorry guys, but Brendon already says I owe him big time! I think this Sunday is a small ride day! ewep, MINUS 4 DEGREES!!!! OMG!
  13. Showoff!! Now send me the route profile with altitude! I wanna see what I did!!smileys/smiley1.gif
  14. :-) I'll pass the thanks onto Brendon!
  15. Hahahaha! You have him well trained!!
  16. Some extra pics: uploads/MichelleH/images/2006-06-26_154917_sp.jpg Rose amongst thorns? uploads/MichelleH/images/2006-06-26_155005_ianj.jpg So IanJ was there after all? uploads/MichelleH/images/2006-06-26_155056_ianj2.jpg uploads/MichelleH/images/2006-06-26_155205_openroad.jpg epoh putting on the pain, or practicing breakaways?
  17. Spinnekop must've been on a different PLANET yesterday! Didn't you get the memo that it was COLD?!!! Spidey, this is how cold it was... after coffee at 9am!! No telling who the bank robbers were!! Hee hee uploads/MichelleH/images/2006-06-26_154729_cooold.JPG
  18. Thanks for posting for me epoh. I need to get one of dem website thingies and then I can post my own pics! Sorry there aren't more pics of the group, but my support car husband thought it was more important to be behind the group than to take photos! OK, so he probably has his priorities straight. Thanks BB for the compliment, I must have a pro riders ability to hide my pain!
  19. Even I managed to hold on long enough to reach the parking lot, then I needed to sit down or fall down!smileys/smiley4.gif
  20. You guys really have missed the mark. The ride was LAST Sunday! Anyway, some photos to follow...
  21. Stop, you're scaring me!! Hmmm.... towrope, check!
  22. I agree ewep! I'm going on an emergency diet!
  23. I'm glad to hear she enjoyed it ewep. I was worried that she would've been peeved after it turned into such a loooong day!
  24. ewep, I'll join you at the back. In fact, if we drop back far enough, we can hang onto the car rear view mirrors and cheat!!! Just kidding! See you on Sunday!
  25. OK, Brendon has agreed to a Take 2 on driving support so we will be there. Cool! He says I owe him BEEG time! Just a favour, can I ask for petrol donations? I've usually got company petrol but I've used a lot over the past weekend! R10.00 per person shouldn't break the bank? And we promise to stock the car with spare water, bananas, etc!
