  1. Ja, the Maxxis Monorail and Crossmark is really useless from a traction point of view when it gets wet, but for anything else they work extremely well. The trick is to run them at lekker low pressure to get the best grip out of them. But if you want a strong dependable tyre, I wouldn't look further. I'd much rather take a heavier tyre and not have to worry every time you blast through a rock garden. I have 2.35 Maxxis High rollers on my AM bike. Maybe think about those as well. I think you get them in 2.1 as well.

  6. Yup. Don't like the look of a lot of the DH bikes (all Intense and Morewood bikes excluded of course ), but this is a very sleek looking thing.
  7. Yup, had exactly the same amplification problem. Changed to a heavier rotor and that solved it.
  8. Yup, goldy locks for me too. Would look kickass with yellow Deemax's.

Hmmm...I wonder if the bike weight doesn't have something to do with it? A DH bike is probably quite a bit heavier than a dirt jump bike and hence you would need more "pump" (i.e. in a more crouched position) to get it off the ground?
  17. Gold is my vote.

No worries Nigel. I think I have more than enough to work with here. Now to practice it until it becomes second nature.

Thx Patches. Much appreciated. Your contribution is more than 2cents worth though! I think where I have been going wrong with my technique so far, is that I try to man handle the bike with my arms instead of just using the core of my body to shift it around. Obviously use your arms to guide it, but use your body weight and momentum more. And then secondly I think my posture on the bike is wrong. In all these pics the rider is hunched down very low just before the jump point. I think I'm way to upright before take off. Practise practise practise...

I think it's good to understand the theory behind something (i.e. via books, dvd's etc), but that the only way to really learn a new skill is to do it practically with people who are very good at it. When I started to learn to play guitar, I initially tried to do it myself via books, and I did make some progress, but the speed at which I learnt new techniques basically tripled when I started playing with guys who were really good at it. Learning to jump well, will be exactly the same thing. I just need to ride with the big boys.

The dvd I have is the "All mountain riding" one which I got with last month's issue of MBUK. He explains cornering, jumps, drops, picking lines etc etc., but very briefly. But jeesh, the oke just makes everything look so effortless.

Thx a million. Ja I guess, everyone will have their own way of achieving the same thing! I think the hardest part is to get the timing right, of throwing your hips and feet forward while at the same time gettting your upper body back. It sounds like if you can get this right, there is almost not so much need to use your arms in the process.

I'm finding that if you're run in to a drop is at a steep down gradient, it's somehow harder to land perfect than when the run in is flat. Is that just simply because your weight is naturally going to be more forward when the run in is angled down?
