  1. i would say go with the ibis, what a way to learn a beatiful bike. It not like its a horse and its gonna throw you! Besides the ibis should be alot more trail friendly
  2. then they should be banned and deserved to be banned whether for fun raising or not. If you cant take the time out to follow procedure then you should face the consequences
  3. Surely they would have made arrangements to do it twice for charity!!
  4. really, thats is good. In my opinion that should not have happened, riding the route twice. It shows nothing but inconsideration to the next person. After all they had their chance, enjoyed it, and then went to spoil it for the slower riders. So well done to the organisers for picking up on this and banning them
  5. Damn this post is long started to scan alot of the replies. However dont take it so serious, gees I thought the argus was a fun ride to be enjoyed by all. If you wanna be serious about seeding, the time you took etc, then see if you can make it as a pro! Then you can complain about seeding and race times. What difference does it make where he started and why? Sorry but i find this topic to be very ..................... cant even think of a word damn!!
  6. Yeah, it looks real nice, well done. Which way to turn the brake bosses loose? is it the std rightie tightie, left loosey?
  7. Well according to the 2011 epic guide, this will be held on the 27 march. The route looks to start at the chrysallis academy then up past the restaurant towards silvermine and up and down and I thin towards the bridal path and then back down to the acadamy
  8. 2 years ago my dad took my then 6 year old son there for a bicycle. He came back with a big air ramp bike with no brakes. I was like how is he gonna ride this? anyways I took the bike back and spoke to a number of different people and looked at a number of different bike options. My dad paid over 2k for the bmx, unbelievable. I decided not to change but requested them to add some brakes as it is definately not safe for my son to ride. They added the brakes, front and back, they never charged for it, but i think that is because I made a noise about the whole affair as my son was there with my dad to buy the bike. Magnet cycles has moved from the main road, dont know where to
  9. Yes Indeed i am always friendly, When I see someone needing help I will go over to help, be it that they are being robbed or whatever. Not all cyclists are from plush neighbourhoods!!! which is what I was trying to say. I havent moved away from my roots, in fact I am next door. The only difference is that I am not exposed to gang violence, but I see the okes daily, as they pass through the area that i now live in. As far as sheltered is concerned, no part of the country is sheltered from crime, it is just certain areas are homes to gangs and drugs, other areas are there to feed the druggies, hence all the break ins, hijackings etc
  10. Like I said we will need thousands, someone suggested setting up a "sting if you will" during last week. This is a great idea, but who is gonna be the bait? a trap has to be set in order to catch these okes. If the police cant do it, then I am sure a large group of MTB's can make a citizens arrest. hmmmmm(wringing hands with an evil grin) now all we need is a citizens jail.
  11. I come from the cape flats where things are pretty tough. Through out my youth we learned how to counter such instances. This is why we have a violent society. When we used to ride bikes, we use to carry baseball bats, metal rods etc. I know what you are talking about with these 2 guys, came across that kinda situation enough times. I now carry a tazer as well as a retractable metal security baton. in the old days you should have seen the look on these guys faces when you pulled out a baton of soughts as you ride up to them. A buddy of mine had one with nails in it inspired by mad max. It is unfortunate, but this is part of south africa, it is a k@k mentallity, but what can we do as idividuals, we need thousands before we are heard and millions under the counter for action
  12. sorry to do this, just going on the topic, but is there any mtb clubs in the cape town or southern suburbs area
  13. Well done, however the mechanic should have informed you he never did the test ride yet, and offered you to do it or allow him 10 min. But at least it is sorted. And Yes, I am sure alot of other peeps also agree why should we test service we have paid for!!!
  14. And what is it gonna prove, someone else opened the email and not him. Trust me Personel delivery or registered mail is the only way. I have done this many times before. How do you get a lawyers letter or summons? You have to sign for it
  15. copied from the Nigerian ............ agge nee sies man did you not learn anything during all these years...... you could have taken the bike back and said nicley...... "why did you not do this????" ..... instead of whining like a ou vrou met 'n nat broek??????? .... eish party mense se kinners!!!!!!!! You are rude and condescending. Why should he be nice about it in the first place. Are you gonna be nice when you order a steak in a restaurant and get a chop, you chop! Why must people be serviced in such poor manner! its because of people like you that allow standards to be lowered. This is not and I fully agree with Eiger. Also note that in this year alone I have taken my bike to 3 different bike shops, and I will not use either of them again. If someone says they gonna call, then they better, why should the customer have to make all the calls!! Nigerian dude get a life, check reality and realise in this day and age, very few people are actually trained to do the job. I can build and service any kind of bike, yet this is not my profession and I never worked at a bike shop. As far as fax and emails go, you are better of faxing the letter or even better send it with registered mail so that you have confirmation the owner received it as he would have to sign for it, emails - who really checks email, try the 20 or say bike shops I have emailed in the last week, faxes - typical excuse we didnt get any fax, the fax machine is broken, do yourself a favour, go talk to him in person and let him know how you feel, maybe you get a freebie
  16. This is a very interesting post. I was almost attacked a few months ago on the closed tarred road section on table mountain. Anyways, contact SAPS and Sanparks. They are not interested, i told them i will be riding with a firearm and I am gonna shoot anything that tries. Still no response. Fact of the matter is that traffic, san parks etc are not interested in doing the hard work, as they are scared of getting hurt. So they target "soft targets" the avg mtb rider whom they think they can scare. It is the same with traffic, speeding fines are easy, but let them try and police taxis for example, they cant cause they gonna get hurt, or loose out on their under counter money. Anyways as far as table mountain and signal hill goes, you can ride any trail below the mountain on cape towns side, trails on signal hill above the tar rode and over on sea points side is a no go. The only way is a mass get together and toyi toyi, maybe in front of the cable car, this will surely get them to see red at a high tourist destination, can you imagine the publicity. Organise this when there is a full moon, most busiest period, get plenty of placards and every one can just ride up and down in silent protest. They wont be able to do a thing
  17. reall cwc was awesome, by the time I got around there I was so gatvol I just wanted to leave
  18. I agree with expos dying and specials non existant. I also have a gripe and i hope these guys are taking note. I strictly ride mtb. So last week I entered my first MTB challeng, sorry "The Cape Argus Pick & Pay MTB Challenge" hmmm sounds almost like that famous race. Anyways I collected my number, No goody bag. Very Dissappointed, Did the race thousands of people present. Visited the Expo to buy a new dual SuS bike, these are expensive. Only 2 brands were displaying. Also I had to pay to enter. This sucks. The cure for expos dying a slow death, make it more exciting like in the states. Add activities, get more brands in, who wants to see local bike shops, why cant wholesalers sell there stuff at the expo, a once a year bargain. Oh and price fixing, I am pretty sure. I looked at a bike in the states. It worked out to R10 000, but when I checked here for the same bike it was almost R40 000, taxes and import duties dont cost that much, neither does transport
  19. For Starters I have a business up the road, and the law, council and government doesnt do anything about the vagrants. These guys are drug dealing and pimping there counter parts. However the venue is alot cheaper than the CTICc, it was held there a few years ago and it was a disaster. The goodhope center started with the argus and I am sure it will die with it. Maybe they should revamp it. What I found sad about the expo was the lack of bicycles. There are alot of brands out the yet there was about only 4 at the expo. I am in the market for a new bike.
  20. The Butcher says it all. This bike is supposed to slay trails with comfort. I wouldnt mind one myself. Did you get a price for the Butcher.
  21. yeah I love listening to music while cycling, however not to loud so that I can hear whats happening around me, and cycling events dont allow you to
  22. I wouldnt mond helping, but i am only available on sundays. Also I ride a hardtail and I love singletrack, is this the same as the DH stuff? however I almost never lock up my brakes, and in the sections that have really steep drops I just take it slow man
