  1. It always is, but there are zero leads, last I heard. As to the recent violence there... I'm unaware of the murder of two suspected robbers, but the guy that had his hands chopped off, he lost his hands because he moved into another gang's business. Two people were murdered there last week as part of friction between SAffers and citizens from neighbouring conutries. As to the squatter camp in question, it's the one behind Woodlands that's the problem (as well as at the cemetary), not the one by the church so much.
  2. You can request [ask nicely] that Lt Colonel Solomons be there to accept it. Or well it's either him, or you'll have to ask that Captain Steenkamp be there.
  3. Of course it was reported. Is that what Captain Steenkamp said?
  4. Hey guys Another update from Captain Steenkamp of Garsfontein Police, as an extract from today's meeting [this does not include everything that is planned at present]
  5. They can't really have an "online shop". They're distributors
  6. Okay cool. Yeah the boundary lines are a little weird and half the cops don't know where it is, so if Steenkamp said that then I've learnt something new. (ie HS/Lynnwood road intersection, splits Silverton/Boschkop/Garsfontein areas, and no party wants to take responsibility for an accident there ) Pepper spray and a baton is a VERY bad idea as protection from someone pointing a firearm at you. Your product is also slightly overpriced.
  7. You should remember that east of Hans Strijdom and north of Garsfontein is actually in Boschkop's jurisdiction. Also, please ensure that you obtain permission from the Tshwane metro for this - the Gauteng Traffic Police are being very anal and they are situated just off Hans Strijdom so they're close by.
  8. No no, when it gets uploaded, aka used. Garmin will be able to see where it gets used.
  9. They can get flagged, and Garmin can block it. Possibly trace it if it can get a signal.
  10. Yeah well what can you do? All we know is that it's two dudes with a pistol. I reckon out of the three squatter camps and surrounds, there's going to be quite a few matching that description.
  11. Hey guys So we had a meeting with the police this morning and brought up the topic of the hijacking and attempted hijackings with Captain Steenkamp. He said he will station a vehicle in the area on Thursday nights from 18:00. Now I personally was hoping to see one a bit more often, but we only have a limited number of vehicles for the Garsfontein precinct.

  14. So it looks like there's something seriously messed up at those squatter camps now. 2 guys [squatters] were murdered there last night. We spoke to one of the guys caught for the hand-chopping, and he said that the dude was sticking his fingers into their business (ie he was a burglar, and he tried his hand at hijacking, and they didn't like it). The journalists either hid that fact, or they didn't know.
  15. Hey, at least he has taste. He could have nicked the no-name bibs.
  16. Yes. The cemetery one is called Woodlane Village. They've had problems at both, but it will definitely be brought up at Monday's meeting.
  17. Okay so our NHW blockleader I spoke to said he'll definitely bring this up at Mondays' meeting with the police. On top of this comes the thing about the dude having his hands chopped off, considering it happened at the same place.
  18. No idea. Station commander retired now, cluster commander is getting transferred, the CPF commander is possibly getting moved, and now we're getting a new provincial commissioner (Petros retiring, and the replacement being fired), so we don't know what's going on really.
  19. The cluster commander is being replaced now. No, it's quite a distance from Irene.
  20. There's always been a lot of loiterers in the bushes and in that area, so they can see us riding there without having to go look for us.
  21. One of our club members rides with a pistol so it's not unheard of. Some years ago the club got hijacked up by Hammanskraal-about I think.
  22. True. Although if your gun jams you're doing it wrong
  23. Best remove that email address, lest it get spammed by spambots. Yes, it's called Plastic View. They're trying to get them evicted now, but it's up to the NG High Court. Last year the land was legally earmarked for development for low-cost housing. "some squatters" is different from this. It's massive now. 1000 households now occupy the camp.
  24. I've been racing [and training] with Vredestein Fortezzas. Maybe it's just me but I haven't had all that many punctures with them, and I've been using them since 2004.
  25. Wrong. A jacked Polo/Golf gets the hijacker in the region of R10k depending on the model, and the person that strips and sells it in the region of R40'000. A journalist did an article with some hijackers in the Mamelodi area last month. As to where the bikes go... some don't get sold, aka township bikes, others get sold on Gumtree, others get sold to bike shops via an intermediary. Depends if a cyclist or motorist in the area is packing a 9mm and shoots the hijackers the next time they try something.
