  1. Wrong. A jacked Polo/Golf gets the hijacker in the region of R10k depending on the model, and the person that strips and sells it in the region of R40'000. A journalist did an article with some hijackers in the Mamelodi area last month. As to where the bikes go... some don't get sold, aka township bikes, others get sold on Gumtree, others get sold to bike shops via an intermediary. Depends if a cyclist or motorist in the area is packing a 9mm and shoots the hijackers the next time they try something.
  2. My blockleader from our NHW meets with Cpt Steenkamp every Monday at that meeting. I'll email him and ask him to discuss it with them.
  3. I'll do my darnest to get the Garsfontein police to look into that problem. I definitely don't want to have to scrap this as a route.
  4. I hope they didn't know - because no one should be stupid enough to go riding where there's currently a bikejacking hotspot. It was only two riders. Helpmytrap warned the guys not to ride there.
  5. The thing is, and we do that as well, is that as soon as firearms (especially positive shootings) are involved, we stay away. A couple of us in our NHW are armed, but we have more to lose than the robbers do.
  6. Oh you mean the vigilante justice? Well there has been a lot of problems at Plastic View the past year. Some of them the problem, and the rest of them just want to have a place to stay.
  7. It's always been safe Now it's not. And it's only one of three entry points to that area, and if that section is unsafe, then the jeeptrack next to Mooikloof is going to be taboo too, which leaves one entry and exit point (Zwavelpoort).
  8. I will try speak to the station manager at Garsfontein today. As to reservists, they all work full-time so they're usually only available on Friday evenings and weekends.
  9. Not twice in two weeks. Twice in two days. Well 3. Tuesday's was at around 5pm, so rush-hour for that area. This morning's would have been at around 6-7am perhaps? There's a lot of cyclists in that area in the mornings :/
  10. Yeah it was on the same stretch of road. He's already made a thread about it. https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/132245-attempted-mtb-hi-jacking-pretoria-east/
  11. SAPS raided the squatter camp about 6 weeks ago. Not that big yet? Haha. There's over 900 houses there.
  12. It's a whole 1km section of road where they can wait for you at any point without you seeing them, or suspecting that a specific person might have it in for you.
  13. The one from Tuesday afternoon was a solo rider. I've ridden there alone tons and tons of times - with vehicles being on that road it's always been safe.
  14. Precisely there. It's worrying, because it's where everybody rides.
  15. I got some further information... ok, so it was a red/white/black bike. Yeah, useful, I know. It wasn't in the veld parse, it was on that wide dirt shoulder along Garsfontein road just otherside Woodlands mall (probably the South side of the road) where the rubbish gets dumped. It's really worrying for me, because I've [and hundreds of other Pretoria riders] ridden there hundreds of times.
  16. Indeed. Now coincidentally it was only across the road that the dude's hands got chopped off... now if anyone finds a pair or two of hands lying around, you know we caught the bastards (j/k)
  17. Yes he's fine. He's being released from hospital today. I will try find out from him just now what bike he had.
  18. 19. +1. Ignore a customer and you'll never know how much money he could have made you. Give him R10's bolts for free and he makes you a rich man.
  20. Use the search function.... some organizers/CSA officials doesn't want use to use it [at all].
  21. It should work, but those are 12g bombs. For MTB you usually use 16g bombs.
  22. You can try www.velo.co.za, they also do custom kits.
  23. The frame should have a serial number.... you can call the distributors to verify it.
  24. Yeah, on Saturday I'm riding home after a ride, and these "tonsils (5 of them)" come riding down the narrow yellow lane, against the flow of traffic, and they don't budge, I have to GTFO so that I don't get hit by traffic from behind....
