  1. I haven't done their road rides in some time since I've moved over to mtb, but Saturdays are usually 80-150km in distance (the website will usually specify the route they'll do). Most often, out east towards Bronkies/Cullinan and sometimes out towards Harties.
  2. His intent may have been fine, but he put a lot more than just his foot in his mouth.
  3. http://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/Driver-in-court-for-Burry-Stander-death-20130107 The case was merely postponed until then. We don't always consider this, but our courts are ridiculously backlogged.
  4. Sorry, I had to +1 your post and laugh on the inside (not right, but in a similar situation ^^ I wanted to do the same thing, but the guy was twice my size)
  5. If a car turns left in front of you and you t-bone him, the impact wouldn't be all that great, since all the momentum is going in one direction (taxi - bike) If a car turns right in front of you and you t-bone him, momentum from both directions will result in a combined speed of the taxi + the bike.
  6. Sources? <snipped> I asked, chances are he was released without a bail request and requested to appear in court on the next date of appearance.
  7. But we already know who's going to win. 29" all the way. /runs to my 29" to ride faster than the 26" guys who want my head.
  8. +1. 4-way stops and circles seem to be a weak point for our drivers... [some of them] they seem to consider it a privilege for us to be allowed to enter it.
  9. +1 I've only ever seen one or two vehicles actually drive aggressive/inconsiderate towards cyclists on that stretch of the N4.
  10. Unfortunately it's this mentality (it's safe, so I'm going to cruise ahead at 90 in a 60, then someone steps out into the road and that extra 30kph is just too much) that causes half the accidents. I'm not claiming to always be perfect with obeying the rules of the road, but I am certainly making an active attempt at driving within the confines of the law.
  11. It could very well, or it could not. I was hit head-on by a car at 80k/h and somehow, miraculously, survived, even with extensive injuries. If only Burry was so lucky, but it was not to be Also hoping, and guessing, that it was painless. Never good to know someone suffered. I've had bad experiences with taxi drivers, but more bad experiences with arrogant and hateful drivers. Only a few with drivers that were ignorant of their surroundings.
  12. Correct yes, as per the technicality. A highway becomes a freeway (marked with the freeway sign) and there you may not ride. An example is the R21 north/south between Fountains circle and Hans Strijdom. Tbh I'm not sure if I've seen those signs between Pta and Harties on the N4... haven't been there recently.
  13. The cops don't like us doing that, but they've never in all my hundreds of times that we've ridden there, given us grief. We do however make sure we stick to the left of that very nice yellow line whenever it is wide enough. <edit: this has been on club rides with a backup vehicle behind us> But to +1 post #2, no, it is not legal. Bicycles, pedestrians and horse drawn carts are not allowed on a national highway.
  14. Weird? It's like that on my Rider 40 (and afaik they mainly did cosmetic changes)
  15. Just press the start button, it will pause.
  16. Having spent a lot of money on my roadbike before I last rode it, I have to..... but Burry is just yet another reason why I should keep my road bike for my trainer and just stick to my mountain bike. Even had an ex-pro I know, say she'll never touch her road bike again.

    Archery.

BP is fun I shoot with a .500cal, it's an awesome thing and reloading (casting own bullets) + powder costs around R1 a shot.
  18. Check my previous post wrt the elevation. Not sure what you mean with your suspicion, could you clarify?
  19. Ah, so the former. Yeah I had no idea there could be a difference, since you take the distance between each point and the next, so there shouldn't be a difference.... only in altitude (climb/descent), and that's only because the algorithms that decide what a climb/descent is differ from app to app. Still though, your elapsed time -> ride time and stop time, this could very well differ for the same reason as altitude -> Garmin might say ok, if you've stopped for 2s then I'm pausing until you go again, and Strava could make it 5s... (therefore Strava.time > Garmin.time)
  20. Are you recording it with your Garmin and importing it to Strava? Or using the Strava app as well as the Garmin input? If the latter, what could be happening is the recording point intervals are probably different, ie the Garmin plots a point every 20m and Strava every 50m.... the more points, the more accurate. If you stop, some apps consider a stop slightly different to what the Garmin might, so your elapsed time would be different too.

    Cricket......

108/1 now. Looks like we're giving it to them
  22. Yes there are signs, it's also on the website. Thing is, they're supposed to enforce it. From a legal standpoint I was told that failure to enforce it would hold Gk negligent.
  23. I like this answer. In the event that something happens and Groenkloof gets screwed legally, then our riding there could be in jeopardy.
  24. Correct, the insurance would say that they [Groenkloof] did not comply with the conditions of the insurance contract and as such they will refuse to pay out in the event of an insurance claim.
