  1. Why would it be a stupid question? Put those brakes on and give it to a regular mtb'er to ride, then watch him take a nose dive I take it the Shimano brakes levers aren't bi-directional? My Magura brake levers are the same, so I could change left/right without doing anything. If that's the case then it would be as simple as swapping out the left and right brake lever [sorry] the cabling for the levers .
  2. This. And don't squeeze the levers if there's nothing to squeeze. Other than that, if the cabling is done, easy as pie.
  3. It does indeed. Mine was almost spot on, just a small margin of error for the rate of exchange used by customs.
  4. Correct. Which is why quad bikes (grrr) are not allowed on the road. Which following my post, the most logical answer would be no.
  5. Velo's guys ride with Singletrack cycles from Hazeldean on Saturdays. No week rides though.
  6. Do mtb races subscribe to the UCI rules? If so it would not be allowed. I'm pretty sure I remember the UCI voicing their concern over this last year at the TDF?
  7. He'll be too old to ride a bicycle by the time they give their comment.
  8. Oh, if you have an intl tracking number you can also use EMS: http://ems.sapo.co.za/EmsWebSite/IPSTracking.aspx
  9. Everyone knew it was going to hurt.... but it doesn't make the pain or the shock any less. Five years ago sponsors were pulling out because of financial troubles, now they are pulling out because they don't want to smear their names with doping scandals [or allegations or controversies].
  10. It all comes down to what you order. Clothing (helmets and shoes included) always makes customs smile because of the high tax rate. http://www.dutycalculator.com/ is a pretty handy tool and gives a fairly accurate idea of what you will pay at the end of the day.
  11. This. I've always enjoyed the thrill of finishing in a road race and getting a podium spot or at least a very good time (in say the August). I will go for this in MTB races once my seeding increases by enough so that I don't get stuck in the bottlenecks. But it's simply important that we enjoy the race for our own personal reasons.
  12. They started moving parcels from the airport again on Friday. Taking into consideration the backlog they should probably be moving to the regional hubs/ post offices/etc about now.
  13. You're a touch late. https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/121992-could-this-be-the-end-of-chappies-for-us/
  14. They can impose a restriction of certain vehicles. Similar to what they can restrict access to certain vehicles above whatever weight. All they need to do is whack up a pole with the "no bicycle" sign. But yes, hoping it does not happen.
  15. Your original purchase price is irrelevant. It's today's price that counts, with an "adjustment" for the quality that you bought initially. If you take depreciation into account I think you are getting a good deal.
  16. That's a pretty good response. Last year on old years eve or Christmas eve there were a couple of wall jumpers in our neighbourhood and they didn't have patrol vehicles available, so they sent the flying squad over. Didn't find the buggers, but they did spend a good 3h searching the area for them. The problem is that sometimes all the vehicles in the area are on call-outs in other areas, and a major problem that we have is that there aren't enough vehicles. Yeah, the MPs have more police vehicles than the cops themselves.
  17. Got my notification just now that my Bryton is at the post office.... going to fetch it asafp. Can't wait to use it.
  18. You have a valid point In that case it would have been a slick now. But yeah, no punctures that way.
  19. For the win! 11 thorns in the last two months (yeah, somewhere along my regular route I seem to gather them quite often) and not one deflated tyre.
  20. Actually Burry rides with these: Specialized S-Works MTB http://webstore.cde.co.za/Products/94/519144.jpg Maybe this rule can be used in reverse too? Rule #34 // Mountain bike shoes and pedals have their place. On a mountain bike.
  21. For warranty you'd probably be lost locally but CRC does cover it afaik. VAT (sorry, meant this, not duties) wise, 15.4% of your item price.
  22. This morning's ride was very very muddy, after all the rain. It did add some extra challenge to the ride though. This was some of the less muddy bits. And finally proof that I didn't just go there in a car. I love that traffic sign though. It's my favourite after the "end of road" sign.
  23. If the weather there is anything like it's been here in Pretoria, you're going to have a very muddy ride. Wish I could join though.
  24. Your best bet would be to go to your LBS and try out a frame or two. Frame geometries differ as does cm sizing on frames.
