  1. Just a word of caution, if the bike is'nt titled, registered/have papers - getting it on the road is a no go. Unless you know someone in the right places. It has to be datadotted, roadwortjied, plated - and all adds up, R5k should about cover the legalities of the process, excluding parts and wiring. Even with papers I had immense issues getting my CRF450X on the road - so much so that I eventually gave up and sold the bike with wiring harness, motard wheels and tyres, speedomemer and all lights etc in place. KTM's are great bikes, but expensive to work on compared to Honda, yamaha or Suzuki, so make sure what you are buying is good condition. Also - that engine is pretty maintenance heavy, so buy bulk pack oil filters, 5l drums of oil and be sure to do routine maintenance on time - every time. Keep a log book with an hour meter on your bike.
  2. So the question is: How do you I sell myself (as mid level mtb rider) to get sponsorhips to do an event like this?!

  8. I've been on motorbikes from a pretty young age - think I got my first slap on the wrist for speeding around town without a helmet on by the police when I was in 5th or 6th grade. I'm in no way classical biker though - don't like riding in big groups, don't wear leather pants/vests, and don't go to rallies - not that there's anything wrong with those things, I just don't. For the last couple of years it's been all about the motards for me. Evident in my bike list. I'm pretty sure I missed a bike or two in the list, will add-in if I remember. My list so far from earliest bought to current: 1. Suzuki RV 50 fatcat 2. Honda MB 50 3. Yamaha Blaster 200 4. Kawasaki KRS100 5. 96' FZR250R 6. 07' Orion 125 pitbike 7. 05' Suzuki DRZ400SM 8. 07' Puzey G-Whizz 125 (crappity crap-crap) sold after a week. 8. 06' Husqvarna SM610 - Black Death 9. 05' Husaberg FS650S Force edition - still have it now - FANTASTIC! 10. 02' Yamaha YB100 Aerox scooter - Rode with a mate from CPT to Port Alfred and made Uitenhage before the rings gave out - awesome scoot! 10. 05' Husaberg FS650S Force Edition (yup x 2 - at the same time) -sold this one 11. 76' Honda CB200T - restored - still have it now - surfracks on, beautiful cruiser. 12. 07'Honda CRF450X (motarded) - sold
  9. Hey guys, I should know the answer to this and I thought I did, but apparently I don't so here goes: I run XTR 10speed chain and casette, paired from new - around 2300km on the set. Kept clean and lubed often, no grinding paste left on chain post excessively dirty/muddy rides. I was under the impression that if I change my chain before it deteriorates completeley (before or on 0.75% measured with parktool chaintool), that I could run a new chain on the casette - and thus almost double the life of the casette. I bought a new XTR chain and droppped it on last night - no-go as fasr as I can tell, gears are not shifting up or down properly, noisy, and generally just does not feel like it pairs up properly. I've checked - new casette and it works again, but I'd love to not have to fit a new casette now. Do I accept that it's time for new casette also, or do I change cables etc, and hope for the best with the 2300km old casette and new chain? Otherwise I may as well go back to the old chain/casette combo and ride them into the ground, as I wasnt experiencing major shifting issues. What's optimal wear to change chains? And at what km's do you guys bin parts? Shotto!
  10. all pivot bearings for my frame.

  12. Snuck out whilst my Fiance was asleep on Sunday morning, explored a bit and got caugt in downpour of note, but had a great ride around Struisbaai and Agulhas.
  13. Headed out to a friend's place in Boston last night, kitted up ready for the ride - realized I'd left my shoes in Paarl... so off comes his old BMX pedals, onto my bike and so I had a sneakered ride from Boston to Meeredal and back. Haven't been on flats in a couple of years, good fun, different, but good fun.
  14. haha, I know I know, weighing up the options, I'd rather take the chance with an open knife. The other morning I was approached by a slowly driving car with the lights off - about 100m away they switched on brights - blinding me, so out comes trusty pocketknife. Nothing happened this time around - they seemt to have been sleeping in the car next to the road or getting down to business, and my light must have bothered them...
  15. My trusty pocketknife, goes along on every ride, and pretty much always in my pocket. Bought it in Chamonix, France earlier in the year. On my 5am riding route, there is a particularly hairy section just as you hit a steep climb where I normally take it out, open and lock the blade, and keep it in my left hand, just as an in-case for peace of mind more than anything else. Other than that it is mostly used for biltong and avo's...
