  1. I remember when the easiest gear on my bike was a 42-21. Rode up everything. Okay, so that's two road bike references in two posts. Somebody please ban me.
  2. Back when I was younger, fitter and stupider - the rear tyre of my road bike used to slip on the rollers in a 53-11 during interval sessions which would cause a burning rubber smell to waft through the house. Wife not impressed
  3. Sorry about the late response. i haven't been Hubbing in a while. The performance is really very good. From the moment I tried it with base pressures it was exceptional. Being so plush you'd think it pedals like a dog but that's not the case. I don't even bother slowing down the compression for a pedally ride. It can be tuned for any suspension set up. Price was somewhere around R8.5k but I don't think there are any more in the country. You'll have to ask your LBS to call International Trade and find out. BTW, it arrives as a 51mm stroke shock but can easily be changed to 57mm in 5 minutes.
  4. Great. Johan is busy remarking all his routes.
  5. Sorry if I didn't see you. I was taking guys around almost constantly. Did you find your way around the course?
  6. Changing from solo to team category then?
  7. Great stuff. Hope to see you there. We are busy organising a party of note. Looks like the live band will be there all day. I'm working on the map at the moment and will post it a little later. Why don't you join on the weekend and I'll show you around some of the new flowing singletrack we've built...
  8. So sad to hear this. I only knew BDF from the forum but it hits home when you realise it's someone you have interacted with. Condolences to his family.
  9. I wouldn't worry too much about weight. My 15.4kg Pyga 140 pedalled just fine over the Berg & Bush Great Trek averaging nearly 19 km/h on day 1 over the 99km route. ...with flat pedals
  10. Many of you know me as the guy who helps design the hectic enduro stuff at Hakahana. Yes, that's true but there is a complete other face of Hakahana Trails which not many riders have seen. For the 12 hour we have designed a 5km route for any level MTBer combining some old rarely used trails around the Hakahana trailhead perimater, added some of the existing green route and built more custom trail - linking bits together. We have also smoothed out a flowing green trail which runs parallel to the enduro descent to eliminate the hectic drops and jumps. The fast, experienced XC or trail riders will be able to race down the fun black or red sections while the rest will happily flow down the green descent. Some photos from work done so far. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd175/Seanf1art/Mobile%20Uploads/20161124_094525_zpsxcwgu8td.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd175/Seanf1art/Mobile%20Uploads/20161124_094516_zps3fnxv0y7.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd175/Seanf1art/Mobile%20Uploads/20161124_093446_zpszjus7gba.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd175/Seanf1art/Mobile%20Uploads/20161124_092400_zps4drueaws.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd175/Seanf1art/Mobile%20Uploads/20161124_093436_zps1pj0viks.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd175/Seanf1art/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG-20161124-WA0006_zpstqjxrska.jpeg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd175/Seanf1art/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG-20161124-WA0004_zpsogjrvkro.jpeg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd175/Seanf1art/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG-20161124-WA0002_zpsil9qfdu1.jpeg Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th will be a full practice weekend where you can scope the course and see what it's all about. A few of us will be available to show you around the route. Just remember entries close at midnight on the 12th.
  11. You see Uni, when you have a short stem it's so much easier to flick/swivel/swim wide bars through narrow gaps. Tell M congrats on the change
  12. No one has to buy the 9 series carbon guide. Nothing wrong with the 3 series guides for less than half that price. I have the 6 series on my bike. You know where you can find all the cSixx stuff...
  13. Had a great time. Day 1 was was a bit too much road for us trail riders but we managed the boredom and it began and ended with some nice descents. I hope we didn't scare anyone too badly. The only mechanical we had was Sidewinder's Maxxis High Roller which kept on ejecting it's plugs on the dust roads. Luckily Andre scratched around and found a Minion in amongst all the Ardents Day 3 we sessioned the Bell Run a couple of times for the camera people.
  14. It's going to be the Pyga 140 with flat pedals, baggies, the works...
  15. Wasn't racing for a time. Was racing licensed vets and the time is just a result of getting into the break group near Teazers . Then being dropped going up Main Rd (near what is now PWC bike park). Recovering and joined a couple of guys going up around the zoo. Finding a tandem there which pulled me all the way down to Kyalami so fast we nearly caught the breakgroup. Finished at 8h30 - it was still a bit chilly.
  16. It's all in the training dude. At 85kgs I did a sub 2:30 back in the day when it was a harder race than it is today.
  17. Yeah. I have a box of a couple of hundred medals from my racing days which mean nothing to me. I eventually stopped collecting them at the end of races. The event vibe with goodie bag apparel is more than good enough for me.
  18. Reliability and cost of servicing/rebuilding. KS costs in the region of R150 to service every year. Go ask your LBS what the Reverb costs to service because you usually have to rebuild with their seal kits.
  19. The Guides are suffering the same problem. Rebuilt 5 last week. Okay the 5th one was too far gone and needs a new lever.
  20. Oh, so you're the guy I chatted to on the phone yesterday.
  21. XCO and #Enduro have multiple line choices. Funny enough it's amazing how when you catch a slower rider in an enduro - when the race time is really short and therefore counts a lot - they are 100% more likely to politely help you pass than in a marathon race or even a casual Sunday ride at your local trail.
  22. The Pyga Stage is available in 2 main variations: Stage 96mm is a full on marathon machine but with slightly trail orientated geometry. Stage Max is 126mm and full on trail machine with beefier carbon in high stress areas on the frame. There is a 3rd variant in-betweener - a 110mm Mini max.
  23. I saw the route profile (Great Trek) on the site last week but it's gone now... Route changes?
