When riding on my road bike I dont like to ride in the gutter (I got a MTB to do that) I have found if I ride +-50Cm of the gutter of the road you get the motorists to slow down and pass you with a distance, if you are ride up against the edge of the road the drivers fly past you with out making any room or slowing down. But I do agree this is not the way to ride I just feel safer doing it this way, especially when I am on my own.

Go for the Felt Q920, probably the best secd bike in your price range. Where do you live, Northcliff Cycles has stock of the Q920.

Then if thats the attitude whats the point of even riding a bike, I know road riders that have been knocked by cars and MTBers who have been Hijacked in the Bush, this is South Africa are we safe anywhere?

Hey Big Ben I have ridden on the Vredestein, obviously not good in the mud the only place I realy enjoyed them was on Jeep Track - Hard Pack. I have just put the Kenda small block eights on, these tyres are awesome.

Thats what got my confidence up was when i did that route during the day and saw what i could do.

I also just started MTBing after many years of road. The first race I did was a night race, it was awesome it got my confidence up and drastically improved my technical skills, doing it the dark is much harder- Thats MTBing in the dark.

Is it just me or does that thing look like it could be a little bit hard to corner with.
