Looks like it's going to be very hot. Please bring sunblock and for those that are going over the mountain I would suggest that you carry cash to buy extra drinks at the shebeen. There is no-where to re-fill water bottles once you start climbing back up the mountain! Also, for those that are going to hang around a bit afterwards, please bring camping chairs and umbrellas if you have.

Apologies, I somehow missed your post. Unfortunately we don't have braai facilities for so many people. As an alternative, I have arranged for boerewors rolls and colddrinks to be on sale after the ride.

It's 57kms with 640m ascent to the top and back (total distance) or 68kms with 985m ascent (total) if you go over the other side and back.

So I've been thinking about this and I've decided that we should have a 'cause'. The entry fee will be a tin/packet of dog/cat food which will then be donated to F.O.R.A. (Friends of rescued animals). I will put a box somewhere close to the coffee table where you can place your donations.

So I took a ride over Brees neck yesterday with Agteros, Zoo Cookie, Andyr249 and trailrider. The surface on the shebeen side is particularly bad from all the rain the area has had. I'm not sure of the level of skill everyone on the list has, but I would advise first timers to the Nek to only go to the top and back. Anyone with little experience on a mtb could become a casualty which could ruin a fun hub ride. Os took some pics that he can post but I'm not sure they will do justice to how bad the surface actually is. The ascent isn't too bad but its the really fast descent that is a concern when you hit the rough sections. Just a word of caution Nancy Drew2009-12-13 01:27:40
