  1. Thanks, as it turns out I read this shortly after posting my question πŸ˜„ and watched a video on bikepacking.com's YouTube channel I should probably Google first, then ask πŸ™ˆ
  2. That's handy, I'm trying to figure out how to mount bottle cages to my MTB fork (which obviously doesn't have mounting points)
  3. Nice setup. Please tell me how you mounted your bottle cages to your fork? Edit: I should've googled before asking the question.. I see one can get bottle cage brackets 😊
  4. Hi Ntokoza, Have you tried getting involved with a development team in Soweto? Maybe get in touch with The Soweto Cycling Club or Soweto Cycling Foundation. They used to do great work helping develop young cyclists. I'm not sure if either is still active.
  5. I'm sorry that your uncle has had this experience. I think sometimes one can just be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I would echo @Danger Dassie's sentiment. I've been riding in and around the area solo for many years without incident. My commute from Northcliff to Rosebank takes me through Linden and Greenside and so far I've never had a problem. Maybe I've just been lucky.
  6. The climbs are mostly manageable. Like others have mentioned, MAC isn't too bad, it's just very long.. imagine doing the long side of Breedts Nek for 10kms (if you're in Joburg) The fangs are a different story, 18-20% in some sections, but honestly short enough to get off and push if necessary (and if you don't care too much about your ego, which I personally don't) I can send you a link to my last TB on Strava if you want to see the profiles. Oh and the fangs used to have a terrible loose surface, I've heard that they've been paved now? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ which will definitely make them easier.
  7. Tempting, but I think my TB days are over.. I was just curious about how the solo event panned out πŸ™‚
  8. Aww thanks πŸ™‚ No apology necessary!
  9. I noticed that riding solo is no longer an option. I was quite sure that a couple of years ago they opened solo entries to 5 year trophy holders. Did that not work out? anybody know?
  10. Bikepacking appeals to my sense of adventure. I checked out Eddie's instagram link and it seems he abandoned the race after a number of days. Doing that kind of distance and climbing in 10 days requires some superhuman effort. Respect for the attempt.
  11. I forgot about this. You worked at MTN at the time.. aahh the good old days πŸ™‚
  12. I think there was a Karen that took one of the dogs, but it was me (Denise) that took Scar. He was a little over 2 years old when Barry passed. I met Scar Boy at the funeral and I knew he was going to be mine. He became my soul dog. We had a bond that I've never experienced with another dog. Last year he developed an inoperable tumor in his mouth. The morning before we were supposed to put him to sleep, he died naturally. I was with him and he was lying on my lap when he took his last breath. He was 9 years old. I miss him every day.
  13. Denise Drew = Nancy Drew Denise Devine = Wonder Woman
  14. This would be me
  15. This is my concern with buying online again. You just can't trust the sizing!
  16. I think trying on boats should have been a red flag πŸ˜„ Thanks. A LBS that I haven't been to before has kindly offered to bring in the shoes that I'm looking for in my size to try on and if they don't fit they'll send them back. I'm hoping for the best outcome. Especially since my dog has eaten one of my existing shoes (old pair), so I'm riding around with exposed toes on one foot πŸ™„πŸ˜„
  17. On this morning's ride I was questioning a few of my life choices. Buying new cycling shoes online without trying them on being one of them, My toes were numb and knees were sore no matter how many ways I adjusted the cleats. So thanks for the offer, I appreciate it, but I think I'll be doing what you did and selling them for a pair that fits properly. Lesson learned.
  18. So 6 months down the line... was the problem solved? I'm experiencing a similar problem at the moment 😊
  19. Following my initial thoughts, I also watched DC Rainmaker's review and there are some navigation elements that concern me. One doesn't want to be in the sticks with dodgy navigation, especially in unfamiliar territory, so I'll probably end up sticking with Garmin for now.
  20. I just came across the Coros Dura watching a Youtube bikepacking video. It claims to have 120 hours of battery life on a single charge, which can be extended with the solar option. It's a lot more cost effective than Garmin and gets really great reviews. My Garmin's battery is tired now and I'm not keen on Garmin forcing me to buy another unit when there's nothing wrong with my existing one (apart from the battery life)
  21. It may well be.. The bigger question for me is did anyone else read this in the deep voice of a narrator?
  22. I think you're right homie 😁 I stopped counting at 40. Nice hoodie. If it's any consolation, the kit that I got at that same Sani2C doesn't fit anymore either. But I hold onto it in hope πŸ˜…
  23. I never subscribed, so no yoga DVD πŸ™‚. My cleanup did however uncover a 2008 Sani2C and a 2005 Sabie Experience DVD. I'm going to hang onto those and see if I can still watch them. I featured in one of them, so it'll be interesting to see young me riding down Nic's pass ☺️ Nice to know that Marianne Vos is still a legend (I'm out of touch)
  24. Hi all, Happy Monday. Thanks for enquiries, I'm surprised by the interest. The magazines have found a home πŸ™‚
