Suffle was pretty quick. They were not armed but were pretty high on what turned out to be Norpi. I have a Spiderco that is designed to be opened with one hand. And yes, I do practice opening and closing it more often than I should. I was riding on the gravel shoulder of the road between two of the street lights. I was aware of the guys but did not think that they would get to me as quickly as they did. Had also had a few beers and was on my way home! Got mugged very badly in Jamaica a few years back and since then I always carry a pocket knife.

About a year ago I got attacked by two guys while I was cycling. They both crabbed a bar-end. I hit the one in the neck and he let go. Managed to get my pocket knife out of my pocket and stabbed the other through his hand and into my other hand! When he let go I cycled to the Shell garage and offered 4 of the guys a hundred rand each to help me find the guys. We did find them and held them till the cops got there (25 minutes!) Went for a tetnus shot and an AIDS test. All clear.

Going to be terrible leaving this beautiful country but if they change the Springbok emblem....

Get the local cops involved and set an ambush. We have managed to reduce the local cable theft in the area by doing this.

I miss riding in Utah. There is some of the best riding in the world.

I have given up trying to fix the creaks on my bicycle. Stipped the entire thing down and greased all the suspension joints and every other part bar the disk brakes. Still creaks and groans. Going to do the bike mech course tomorrow night at Silverlakes and see if they can help me silence my stead
