From the Zipp Wheel Manual: "TIRE PRESSURE Volumes of data have been produced showing decreased tire performance at high tire pressures, and our studies have been no different. We recommend 100?110 psi for all nylon-cased tires (such as Michelin, Continental, and Vittoria Ultra Speed), and 110?125 psi for cotton and softer material-cased tires (such as Vittoria CX, Vredestein, and Veloflex). Pressures above these will decrease tire grip and actually increase rolling resistance on most road surfaces, as the tire generates more heat conforming to the uneven road surface. The tire PSI rating on the sidewall of your tire is the MAXIMUM SAFE PRESSURE, indicating the amount of air pressure sufficient to damage or increase risk of tire failure. If you have questions about your tire?s optimal pressure please call the tire manufacturer or contact its website for further information."

Interesting that 9 bar is the limit on those tires. I've been trying to find a link on the Zipp website that dispels the common belief that one should pump tubbies far harder than clinchers. When I find it I'll post it. However 8 bar would be almost correct assuming that you don't weigh more than 80kg.

Luckily this is not an IQ test else you may not pass!
  7. Our regular training group has a driving roster from Monday to Thursday whereby each person on the list takes a turn driving behind the group. We are about 26 cyclists in total (not that they all ride everyday) so it means you get to drive once every 6 weeks. We've been doing this for about 18 months and it certainly does help. Its also nice for things like punctures where you have a foot pump in the car. Mr Price - way to go!
  8. No - not even close.
  9. "We barricaded certain parts near Kings Park pool but some of them managed to go through," the police officer said. Bollocks! Nobody stopped the cyclists!!!
  10. Rockdale is right on Lyndon's doorstep.
  11. Its different each day of the week. Go to www.westcycle.co.za and check out "Training Rides". Lyndon rides with that group.
  12. Pantani, get to the Westville Checkers Centre by 4:15 (sharp) and the Mr Price group leaves from there every day with a follow vehicle.
  13. Normally on Thursdays
  14. I'm contemplating getting Look Keo Carbon's, changing from Shimano's. I used to have Looks but they made so much noise that I eventually went to Shimano. Do the new Look pedals still have problems with squeaking?
  15. No probs. An ideal pedal would be the Keo Classic....the new 2009 Classics are really cool looking....all black. How do they differ from the 2008 Classic's?

    Brake pads

I've used Zipp pads on my carbon wheels and my alu wheels - no problem, just rather expensive.
  17. Extract from the Zipp Wheel Manual CARE AND CLEANING Any cleaner that will not affect epoxy resins is acceptable for your rims. Acetone or denatured alcohol work quite well on the rims but will ruin the decals, so be careful when using. http://www.zipp.com/portals/0/support/documents/ZIPP_A6_Wheel%20Manual_0306.pdf
  18. You will probably find that you only need a longer stem i.e. 20mm longer. I don't think it should be a problem. Look at the pro's - they normally ride as small a bike as possible and they all seem to have fairly long stems. The difference in the seatpost height should not be a problem either.
  19. White powder?

  23. Please could those Hubbers who use Speedplay pedals give me some advice. Is the riding with these pedals different to other pedals (Shimano, Look etc)? Are the cleats a mission to maintain and do you need to take extra care with them such as putting caps on them when you walk? How long do a set of cleats last? Bottom line: Are these pedals worth the extra cost? Thanks - I'd appreciate your advice. maximo2008-07-17 01:52:00
  24. Oh yes - I remember!!!! Geoghegans if I recall correctly - ouch! My RC 2000
  25. Pantani... that bike looks very good, a far cry from that Giant you used to ride when you were still a KZN booitjie!
