  1. Haven't been on long have you, welcome here we are all obsessed some just more than others. What's your obsession Don't worry, I've been here long enough to pick the real gems. My obsession is life!
  2. I agree that the ruler method is the best.
  3. Phew - 20 - 25 000 km? I think it should be around 4 000 km on chains like Dura Ace and Ultegra. Mielies, think that the measure is if the chain is 60% worn then its time to change it. If you leave it too long then your cassette will wear unnecessarily.
  4. Normally I would not post a comment to a thread of this nature but this matter has left me with some doubt as to whether or not I'd buy from a Hubber again. You can say what you like but GO's and Popeye's debacle does shed negative light on Hub purchasing. Moreover, both Go and Popeye are now saying that the matter is over and that we should leave it a alone. But they are the ones that made the matter public, allowed us to make our assumptions and allowed us to form our opinions. Throughout the whole matter we were fed some facts and plenty of references to "a lot at play" which obviously lead to people making wrong assumptions and thus forming the wrong opinion. I'm glad that GO and Popeye have resolved the issue because it seemed to me that Popeye had the short end of the stick, but for Pete's sakes keep this stuff private in future. If you want to go public then give the whole story and not just select information. That way we are able to come to the right opinion.
  5. I did ! ??? Dawie Roos continued with that opinion till this morning. I think 0.5% is a (pleasant) surprise after the hawkish statements from Tito last month. Most people were expecting 1%.
  6. Definition of a recession is 2 consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth. Our GDP slowed to just over 2%, certainly not negative, just slow. Economic slowdown -yes ,Recession - not quite yet The danger signs are there though A worldwide recession may be on the cards?
  7. Statement from MPC = 0.5%!!!

  11. Why do you want carbon?
  12. I don't think you'll need this but take it for reference anyway http://techdocs.shimano.com/media/techdocs/content/cycle/SI/Wheel/WH-5600-R561-R560-R550/SI_4BE0D_EN_v1_m56577569830607425.PDF
  13. Check that the lock nuts on the axle are tight else the wheel will make a noise - I'm not saying that's your problem, just mentioning it because it took me months (and lots of cash) to find the root of the noise coming from my rear wheel.
  14. Here's the tech doc http://techdocs.shimano.com/media/techdocs/content/cycle/EV/actionsports/WH/EV-WH-R550-R-2337A_v1_m56577569830608667.pdf
  15. The problem is that in order to train properly for MTB you still need to ride on the road.

    Broken chain

I'd be interested to know why you didn't like this chain. I've never used a Wipperman but I find the notion of a stainless steel chain so silly. Whenever someone brings a new product to market' date=' always ask them "what problem does it solve?" No doubt the answer in this case would have been rust. However, rust is not a problem on chains. The oil we put on there keeps them just about rust-free and they eventually fail from wear, not corrosion. If the answer was "it looks great", I would go with that. [/quote'] I did like the look of the chain - I like shiny looking chains - it makes them appear cleaner. I didn't like the chain because it cost so much more than an expensive DA chain but did not last any longer than an Ultegra or DA chain.

    Broken chain

Save even more money by going even lower down the food chain. Shimano's cheapest chain is exactly the same insofar your sprockets care about chains. Only the shiny coating is different. As I was typing the above post I thought that you may say that and I must agree with you. However, I like the shiny stuff and I am happy to pay for it to a degree

R50.22 price diff on the CWC site btw DA and Ultegra chains. Thats the price of a burger and chips these days! My 105 chain snapped a about two years ago on my training bike' date=' and i replaced it with a DA chain. Since then i havnt had a days trouble with it, and i ride that bike daily. For R50 more i would go Dura Ace every time![/quote'] Thanks for the heads up . The price difference at my LBS is much more. CWC here I come.

  22. Birdie, if he started in a licensed racing group (i.e. racing for prize money) and he gets shelled from that group he may not join the racing end of any racing group (racing for prize money) that catches him. This is to ensure that he does not influence the racing of that group in any way and that he is not pulled back to his original group by the group that caught him (not likely if he started with the elites ) Basically the groups that race for prize money are Elites, Juniors, Vets and Ladies. These are normally the first groups to start in any race. Oh, he can also not mix it with the tandems!
