Should have been double for sandals.... Sandals??
Sandals with cleats. Due to a MTB accident 3yrs ago that left me with a spina\l cord injury now ride a 3 wheel recumbent trike. Need to clip my feet in but cannot get my feet into shoes.

Ah okay. Thanks for the info!
Forget to add, you are only allowed two "GIFTS" per year.
Ja I knew of the tax on clothes, I was just surprised as it was genuinely a gift from my mom and it said so on the description. Suppose many people take a chance I dunno but none the less I’m glad it arrived.
I brought in some Shimano sandals from the UK last year. Invoice must be clearly marked GIFT, and value must not exceed R1500.00. You are not charged VAT or import duty, They still tried to charge me VAT and duties and I had to phone the shipping agent and tell them to read the invoice properly!!
On my first ride with my new bike, the noise from the internal cable rattling almost gave me a heart attack, but I will give this a go.
Hope it works for you, rode my bike for 5yrs with no cable rattle and it was a cheap solution.
Go to any motorcycle dealer or scooter spares dealer, they should have a range of mirrors, including ones that clamp on the bars and ones that fit in the end of the bars.
Rearview is excellent, I use them on my Tadpole trike.
Well the Back a buddy campaign closes 31 August, fell short of what I needed, but heartfelt thanks to those who did assist. Every bit was helpful.
Now I have to get used to three wheels instead of two, but I can finally get out on the road again!!
Doesn't seem to be any local agents?
Trying to avoid imports, tax makes it too expensive. May have to get a friend in UK to buy and send as a gift.
If under R1400.00 no tax or VAT
Really hope to see you out on a bike again soon, Joe.
Thanks Desi.
Won't be able to do single track, but jeep track is a possibility. From my experience with a test ride, first target will be just to get around the block! Very weak.
Derick will be my wing man once I can do a bit of distance.
Donation made . Respect
Thank you Arno, much appreciated.

An update on my progress.
Up to November 2018, I was making slow but steady progress, could walk short distances, and generally take care of myself, even drive my car (AT).
Then in November started going backwards had several falls and fractured left hip. After two weeks in hospital and several specialists, was told that nothing could be done to improve my status. But I will not accept this, I am going to carry on exercising and carry on with therapy which has already cost me over R30k over the last year which medical aid will not cover.
Twice a week when we drive along Marine Drive to the therapists I see the cyclists on the cycle path and cry inside. But the possibility of riding on two wheels again is remote
So I started investigating 3-wheel recumbents and found a local supplier in Cape Town. I am trying to raise R40k to purchase one of these so that I can enjoy the cycle track instead of just watching it!

I believe that bicycle tyres are exempt from this requirement:

A friend's bicycle tyre import was held by Aramex because of this, but they let it through after he showed them this doc.
Thanks.
Now I need to figure out if there is a way to avoid the 15% duty if I import a recumbant trike from Taiwan which is shipped in one carton with complete parts since it is for use by a disabled person
Just received this article from EBay regards imports new regs

Do you now need a permit to import tyres??

Looks like some good news for those who have been waiting for international parcels. Lets wait and see.
And some not so good news!
I just want to thank all who organized and supported the Ride for Joe, yes that is me.
I am humbled by the support that I have had since my fall last September, but seeing all the cyclists at the event, some old friends and some new, made me realise why I love cycling. It's still going to be long road before I can get back on the bike again, but you are all the motivation I need to keep working on recovery.
Get some soft plastic tubing from local hardware store, or pet shop that supplies tubing for fish tanks. If you don't want to remove cables, first slit tube in it's length and feed it into the frame over the cable, taping it with insulation tape every 100mm or so. Works perfectly. Had the same problem with my Trance, nearly drove me crazy.
Windguru predicts winds around 25km/h for CPT, that's not too bad is it? Nice to cool us down :-P
Luggage: 1 out of 2 bags has arrived! Racetec and saddle are in the other bag of course. Will be delivered today, what time? Who knows! Jaja this is Afrika ;-)
Think you reading the winds speed in knots not km/hr my friend.
Firstly; We are indeed very fortunate to have such an extended, well maintained cycle path system in Cape Town. Cyclists in other cities have no idea how lucky we are. I often try and cycle on the green paths in Sandton and it's completely useless. So kudos to the City of Cape Town.
Secondly; Routing the cycling lane along the bus route makes logical sense from many different angles. Land ownership, no traffic, etc.
Thirdly; As posted above, it's only a small section that's problematic. But it is a big problem. And likely there is no short term solution. I've seen attempts at patrolling the section under discussion but the resource requirements to do it properly will make it very expensive.
For me, as above, an immediate solution is to re-open the harbour like it used to be.
Failing that, it's not a huge project to construct a path on the outside of the harbour fence, where the single track currently runs. I often cycle it in or out of town (MTB) and it's safe with more than enough space. The Woodstock off-ramp is the only danger point you need to cross.
I typically cycle into town with the cycle path as there are enough other cyclists early on a weekend. But coming back I always do the N1 to Marine Drive.
On Sunday morning the cops pulled me over on this section stating I'm not allowed on the highway. Had to get off.
If more and more cyclists are going to use this road, I can see the dollar signs in a few cop eyes, fining cyclists on this section.
Anyone knows where the N1 formally starts, coming out of Cape Town? I rode it twice on Monday on my motorbike and there are no signs posted.
As far as I know the "Freeway" only starts at the Koeburg interchange and there are signs posted at the bridge. From there into town is not highway, hence the reduction on speed limit as well. Be interesting to get some opinion on this. Also rode the cycle track into town on Sunday Morning and was shocked by the amount of "homeless" people occupying this area. Does not feel safe riding that area at all as incidents prove!
Anybody ever bought from these guys??
