  1. ja the tour is another level but last year he was top 5! His lack of form has been a mystery to me.
  2. maybe just trying to send a message of strength to the peloton wo will be licking their lips after Sunday...
  3. Thats a great stat - puts things nicely into perspective. Tour is far from over for a lot of guys.
  4. I think redemption would do that...
  5. He's got to make up almost 30minutes on the other young riders though....
  6. he's also scared of going downhill! And by scared I don't mean cautious, I mean terrified... In a recent interview he stated he is scared of speed like some people are scared of spiders and snakes... Clearly I learned this AFTER I had picked him since being "scared of speed" is not a trait I would chose in my young rider contender and king of the mountain wildcard!!
  7. ASG are the agents, right?
  8. Yea 2 big ego's there - and lots of me me me in both their reporting TBH! I hear you on the embedding thing but on the other hand Sky has no obligation to offer someone the level of access they have given Walsh - and he is free to reject this if he believes it compromises his ability t report accurately. You can then as a reader chose to take his opinions on sky at face value or not depending on your assessment of the man. I have no reason to believe that he has suddenly lost his integrity... Anyway, we digress - Go Froomedog!
  9. Yes Walsh's perceived "going over to the other side" has meant he is no longer the darling of the twitter lynch mob Its quite interesting though - what seemed a homogenous group when the sole target was LA are now proving to be quite diverse and there are some who to me it seems really have the best interests of the sport at hand, and there are others that are hell bent on throwing rocks at anything Sky related as if they really are UK Postal. A guy like Race radio who to be honest I used to think was blinded by his obsession with LA is proving to be quite fair. Anyway I find it more telling what the likes of Miller have to say on Froome than those dismissing Walsh.
  10. ya but you can't swim laps with the 810...
  11. One of those doing their best to take shots at Froome is Paul Kimmage, check this video out where he tries his level best to get Frankie Andreu to jump on the bandwagon - but Frankie is not biting. Quite funny actually - and rates an 8.5 on the awkward-ometer at the end... Go Frankie http://www.independent.ie/sport/kimmage/day-12-of-paul-kimmages-tour-de-france-diary-29401411.html
  12. She has gotten things wrong in thepast on twitter, but I must say in this case I think she is spot on. she's not being disparaging to or waging a war against ALL journalists here, and Froome is indeed respectful to EVERYONE, and nor has he ever said wiggens-style that these questions are out of order...
  13. Good to see the 2 Belkin guys right up there!

  15. Ja I reckon this is a stage for Goss to finally come out and play with the big 3... Not sure he can win but Daryl to give him a perfect leadout for a top 3... Greipel or Cav to take the stage.
  16. Porte looks more like a jockey than a cyclist... Word is the Sky camp at this years tour is a completely different place to be than last year - far more relaxed and the guys are able to joke around etc. Last year was all business all the time. Same management - (very) different team leader.
  17. Yup. Here's a 1 July article that still reads very true on 8 July... http://theclassical.org/articles/nairo-or-the-tour-de-france-gets-its-russell-westbrook That most recent victory is perhaps most indicative of his scorched-earth abilities, in that the field he beat included Henao, Porte, Contador, and teammate Rui Costa. He isn’t likely to lead his team at this year’s tour, but the biggest race of them all isn’t immune to unravelling and disorder. Quintana and Costa will nominally be in charge of looking after the 33-year-old Alejandro Valverde. But should he lose any time before the mountains, the two young guns will be let loose. And we should hope this happens. For all we know about all these racers, there is one thing great, fascinating unknown attached to Quintana. It’s this: nobody really knows how good he can be.
  18. that is true! they have under-performed. Have to say I am not sorry about this - high time the skyborg myth is dispelled.
  19. That was my first reaction when their tour team was announced, but on thinking about it I think its more because the team had to throw weight behind Wiggo as an equal priority to Froome's tour ambitions. He had a very full program leading into the Giro as well so sure they didn't want to bring him in fatigued. Their attitude to him leaving will more likely be reflected by whether he makes the Vuelta team or not (and in what role). All things equal, he should probabaly lead Sky there...
  20. remember he's only 23.... He will win GT's for sure - most Vueltas and Giros will suit him to a tee. Tour De France may be more of a challenge for him - but a course like this would could be good for him in a few years time...
  21. Short answer is No. Long answer is, although Froome is credited with hand picking his team, the reality is he had sloppy seconds to choose from. Other than Porte who was always going to be his wing man, the Columbians were spent in the cause of Wiggo's ill fated assault on the Giro. Substitute a fresh Uran and Henao for the MIA Siutsou and Lopez and the team would have had a very different look about it...
  22. hehe lets revisit on Wednesday evening. He is going to lose time to Froome, but I reckon he will take time out of other "pure" climbers such as J Rod, Valverde AND most likely Contador (based on his recent TT showings)... Re "everyone going on about him" based on 2 good stages in the tour, pls note that SOME of us have been going on about him for months...
  23. I agree that Sky's tactics weren't great on Saturday - mainly in that the plan probably foresaw that their climbers would all be firing on all cylinders. However with only Kennaugh and Porte coming to the party they should have re-assessed. That said, perhaps Movistar should take more credit for Saturday (as well as Sunday) since Quintana's early attack forced Sky to go much harder earlier on the HC climb than they probably would otherwise have done... Without that attack, its likely Kennaugh would have released Porte with only about 3km to go which is more the standard Sky formula. I disagree on tactics wrt the yellow jersey though. I don't think that Armstrong or anyone else would give away a 1m30 advantage after the Pyrenees. With the individual TT just 1 stage away why wouldn't Froome want what is likely to be a 2minute+ buffer before getting to the Alps! Sky should be able to rely on OPQ, Lotto and Cannendale to control much of the racing on the flat stages until they get to the Alps on Saturday.
  24. Are you SURE about that? 17 second off Tony Martin and 30 seconds up on Porte is not all that shabby... http://pelotoncafe.com.au/quintana-shows-his-skills-by-winning-vuelta-al-pais-vasco/ Nairo continued his good feelings throughout the race and put on a better time through the intermediate check point than the other GC favourites – race leader Sergio HenaoW (SKY), team-mate Richie PorteW, Alberto ContadorW (TST) and Simon SpilakW (KAT). He backed up his time at the first check in the second part of the race, with a constant ride through the Alto de Olaberria and a great final descent that saw him come across the finish line in 35.22, just 17 seconds behind Martin and almost half a minute over Porte – 2nd overall, with Henao in 3rd. - See more at: http://pelotoncafe.com.au/quintana-shows-his-skills-by-winning-vuelta-al-pais-vasco/#sthash.VrKF61Eg.dpuf
