Just saw this....he'd be crazy to, but I guess these guys are inherently a little crazy
  3. Hi Wayne, Thanks so much for the response. While we don't have kids yet we are certainly thinking about having our first in the next little while. (As you can tell I'm trying to pile as much stress into the next 24 months as I can haha) I read your post regarding schooling in CHC and I suppose because I don't have kids yet its not something I've looked very deeply into. I'm not against single-sex schools if those are the best options. If we do have kids in the next 1-2 years then they'll only need primary schooling in the next 5-7 so I suppose we would have some time to consider schooling in the area. Not looking to move twice but its not impossible. Regarding the immigration agent I was planning on doing this myself and saving the money (to put towards our animals' move haha) but your and Dave's points are valid and that might be penny-wise, pound-foolish at this stage given all that is going on. Given that this is the biggest lifestyle change my wife and I would make (aside from kids) it makes sense to get expert advice....if you could recommend some agents that would be amazing thank you. Better than relying on the first result in a google search
  4. Ok wow. 294 pages later and I hope I have most of the information without asking too many questions that have already been answered. So wife and I are seriously considering a move to Christchurch (I know I know...not the best time but I guess no matter whats going on the best time to start is immediately). I know VISAs etc are currently closed, as are all flights etc. but figured that we might start the process now anyway given that it takes a while. Looking at the options I think that Skilled Migrant Visa makes the most sense for us. I should be able to score 160 points without a job offer unless I've done something wrong on the online calculator. Edit: actually made a mistake I think...not sure Chartered Accountant qualifies here anymore or perhaps thats just for absolute skills shortage work experience. Hmmmmm Why Christchurch? I reckon if I'm going to move my entire life I'd like to try and readjust to one that's a bit more relaxed and I like the idea of a smaller city. I realise that job opportunities won't be as good as Auckland but I'm willing to trade that against a smaller city feel, cheaper property, and hopefully a different quality of life. I see patches is the only person who was in Christchurch for a while...any reason (besides earthquakes) I should be avoiding it? We have 4 dogs and 2 cats so Interns estimate of the cost of moving pets terrifies me. Looks like first action is completing the EOI....any tips?

    MotoGP

So awesome to have the racing back. Moto3 exciting as always...nothing changes (including poor Darren throwing it away right at the end when in contention for a podium). Moto2 was a little boring and MotoGP was good with all the issues the heat was causing. That being said I hope its a bit cooler next weekend.
  6. I used the Gradient Adjusted Pace metric during my run this morning. Based on a test sample of 1 it seems to do just the job its supposed to. Will have to run a couple more trials with it over the next week but I think it could be a great value add, very similar to a "power" number. Stoked to have found what looks like a very cheap, but potentially worthwhile, solution.
  7. I go with the "positive reinforcement" plan...if a car clearly gives me space I wave and thank them. When someone forces me onto the pavement even though the road is empty I also give some feedback, but its not as positive
  8. Advantage of running is (1) you are slower so more time to react to anything in the road you need to avoid and (2) oncoming cars are on your side so its also easy to see if you need to quickly step onto the sidewalk or move further to the side if it looks like the car is going to be close. I love running in the dark...cycling I'm definitely more nervous.
  9. No laughing at all. I'd definitely rather find a way to use the lights I have rather than running without one
  10. Every single run I do during the week involves leaving while its still dark. I wear a light 100% of the time. Petzel headlamp. Two reasons for me: (1) its actually really hard for an oncoming car to see you without a light, especially if there is a car coming in the opposite direction (2) there are lots of uneven parts of the roads I run on. I would have done a couple ankles for sure without a light. Edited: Sorry, realise you were looking for something other than a headlamp...nothing to add there. Not sure why you don't want a headlamp? If its comfort then I'll say that I dont even notice mine anymore. When I had a cheaper one it wasn't as comfortable but the one I have at the moment is perfect.
  11. Did you ever try the Gradient Adjusted Pace app on GarminIQ? Just found it this morning and wondering how accurate it will be...running again on Friday so will test it out then to see what kind of readings it gives.
  12. The looks might not be for everyone (with the wings) but you can't help but enjoy the review. The guys are just so excited about the bike
  13. I put my phone in the same compartment as the soft bottle. I find I can pretty easily get my phone in and positioned closer to my body and then the bottle "on the outside". Very secure, no way the phone is coming out but easy to hand. My model is slightly different to yours though (WithWind 5L)
  14. Not sure if you've bought yet? This is double what you were looking at spending but saw it and thought I'd share anyway https://thesavage.biz/collections/other-post-lock-down-beauties/products/ultra-vest-4-0 And this is another option closer to your budget https://thesavage.biz/collections/other-post-lock-down-beauties/products/ultraspire-spy
  15. I have one of these (Windrunner or something like that). I'm a novice trail runner - its been perfect for me, no issue so far. I've probably only run with it 15-20 times so still relatively new. Also just couldn't bring myself to spend big on the name ones. What hurt is that straight after I bought mine there were some Ultimate Direction ones on special for almost the same amount.
  16. Ran there this morning. Green route plus a couple blue pieces thrown in. Condition overall is good. They burnt the veld last week so not alot of long grass. Trails themselves pretty well maintained. "Henry" was a little overgrown but nothing serious at all. For R20 it's an absolute bargain.
  17. I'm afraid not. "For running you can use pace for interval training - it should correlate directly to power." - think about running the same pace for an interval (1) up a hill (2) on a flat (3) downhill. Same pace, 3 very different effort (and power) levels "Heartrate would work very well for managing running effort" - if used only by itself then no. Exactly the same theory as why you would use power numbers in cycling. A number of external factors can influence your HR including fatigue, sleep the night before, stress, cardiac drift over the course of a workout etc. All make HR relatively ineffective (when used solely by itself). If you combine HR, pace and RPE you can manage your interval efforts pretty well especially if you are an experienced runner
  18. Ya don't bother comparing them. Not the same thing at all.
  19. 100% agree with you. It's more important that its consistently inaccurate rather than inconsistently accurate because if its consistent it gives you a base to work from Don't get me wrong - if I had spare cash lying around I'd definitely be tempted to try a Stryd. At this stage its a mixture of RPE, Pace and HR for me.
  20. There is the key question. A cycling power meter has a strain gauge. This measures physical force which is then translated into watts. A running power meter, in this case stryd, uses accelerometers and some fancy algorithms to calculate a power number. Its not actually measuring power like a cycling power meter does. The there is a difference. A watt is a watt in cycling....its a strain gauge measuring the force you are creating. This isn't the same with running (yet) Edited to add: Or at least there is not widely accepted accurate measure of power yet in running. I think thats the biggest difference with cycling now. And because DC is so good here is some more info for you. https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2019/06/testing-in-the-wind-tunnel-with-stryds-new-running-power-meter.html
  21. There are three options: 1. You attempt to walk home. This has the benefit of reducing the bouncing/jarring effect of running but you are sacrificing time 2. You attempt to run home. This has the benefit of being quicker but you are risking the jarring causing an unstoppable force 3. You don't make it home https://forum.slowtwitch.com/forum/Slowtwitch_Forums_C1/Triathlon_Forum_F1/I_just_shit_my_pants_mid_run_P5580857/ (4.) Read the above and have a laugh. If you run, it will happen to you.
  22. I'm guessing this is the case. I ran around 13km but entered the 10km and when I uploaded my file it just cut it down to the 10km mark.
