  1. My 19 year old son is my pillion, he never complained about comfort. but being 19 he is farkign hardegat out of principle. Never did long trips with pillion. have done two loaded trips to the garden route, and the bike can do 800km days easily. I am also mid-range height wise. and the bike has the lower seat fitted. This does effect inseam reach to the floor, but also bum to footpeg, which after 4 hours in the saddle becomes a bit uncomfy. In my opinion the 8gs is capable offroad, but it really is a great mid-sized engine tourer.
  2. Current 8gs owner. no issues (2013 spec) been doing maintenence regularly. Did fork seals a while ago. I get around 20k on a set of tyres as well as chain and sprockets. consumption around 20km/l most of my miles are commuting, of which around 40% 2-up the motor is quite awake for the weight of the bike. But then again, coming from. 650dakar previously, anything is more awake...
  3. I guess, while waiting for some-one to bring fuel, it was the perfect opportunity for a photo shoot...
  4. so, I guess I will not be doing that one before work then... Incidentally, there is no 6am slot for these stages. And that's when I usually get my chance to train. And no ways I'm getting on the trainer at 4am... 7am is too late for me, as then I will only get to the office after9. So afternoon/evening sessions it will be. I missed stage1, will have to do it during make-up week.
  5. Naais ICM! Enjoy. Ride whatever puts a smile on your Dial.
  6. Thanks for sharing DJR. I simply HAVE to make a plan for this trip next year. Do you have any more pics of the yellow Zeus?
  7. So in true form. I decide to combine my suggested Z2 ride with the second stage of TOW. Sign up for the long ride. Get going real easy at the back of the pack..fall out of a couple of groups, then a group comes along, had to put some effort in to stick with them. They lost me on the KOM climb..so lo up and down. Then on the second lap, 4 of us are going a long nicely. A japanese fella does not seem to mind pulling the rest of us. Up on the KOM for the second time, and for some stoopid reason, I decide to put the hammer down. A frenchman is with me, we take turns in front, and eventually with 1km to go to the top, I decide to give it my all. Drop the frenchie, and the rest was an easy cruise to the finish. So much fun, Z2 nowhere to be found.
  8. I dont know.
  9. yes, give me my own business, so I can purchase land, and be wealthy.
  10. I'm already disappointed in the goodie bag.
  11. Last time I checked, one needs to claim for these manually on the app. Race number and finishing time needed IIRC
  12. Between Loadshedding and workload, this is going to prove difficult. I have unfinished business with the tour. Edit: I don't care about the negative flack Zwift has been getting in the CTCT thread. I couldn't ride road even before starting to Zwift...
  13. My mate we stayed with tried to describe misty cliffs the night before. But nothing could compare to the actual awesomeness!!! It was a "This is exactly where I am supposed to be moment" Was fortunate to have shared it with my Missus, which made it even sweeter!!
  14. My fave was the Blue Du Toit tandem with father and son in our group. the other was a bianchi, in pristine conditition. The gent and I started gushing over each other’s bikes and got rudely interrupted by another fellow commenting on our bike porn session we were having. Now I absolutely have to make a plan for eroica some time soon.
  15. Wanted to take the chappies tunnel selfie, but ended up with this rather artistic accidental shot.
  16. Rode with the missus, she dropped back from 2D to 3B. We had an awesome ride, this was only my second road event on a roadbike. I was very nervous. The speeds and the amount of people in close proximity had me on edge. klapped no less than 3 cat-eyes each time crapping my pants. Kept control and luckily my steel zeus is strong as houses. Had a nice chat with some peeps regarding my classic bike. One gentleman mentioned he is doing his 31st tour, and started back in the day on similar bikes, and me my first on such a bike, was great for him to see. chappies was not as bad as I thought, cruised up, my bikes gearing not allowing me to chill as much as I would have liked. I had to wait for the missus after each climb, which brought the heart rate down, and gave the legs a bit of a reprieve. Suikerbossie gave me a bit of a workout, and honestly, of not for the awesome support, I would have gotten off and pushed. After I joined up with the missus at the watertable on top, she smelt home, and I had to borrow matches to catch up to her so we could finish together. She was going like a bat out of hell. We were certainly blessed with the most perfect day and it gave us a 3:52. I was aiming for anything between 4:30 and 5 so am more than chuffed.
  17. So the first night went as planned, only got to bed at 2:30 this morning, spent the whole day lounging and babbeleering in the pool. Had a couple of regmakers. In bed now. Excited for Tomorrow. Enjoy!
  18. Correct, If it aint turning people into Zombies, Werewolves or Vampires...I'm not worried. (Mind you, looking at peeps in traffic on their phones, I think we already have zombies..or the Wall-e version of "People") From Godless: "I've seen my death, This aint it..."
