  1. I'm surprised no-one is taking this post more seriously........ we so often here and see cyclists knocked down or killed..... I agree, Capitan Jack Sparrow...., more should be reported on injuries to cyclists...
  2. Ok...I don't care what he/she drives....that really is not the issue here..... it would just be nice to hear/know why CKs can be bought from an online retailer for R5k landed @ your door and locally you can buy it for R9k...
  3. mercedes benz.... what else is there to trust in deepest, darkest a-free-ka? bak2basiks2009-06-01 11:09:56
  4. 335i payments....?.......... maybe not....you know him, Thug, what does he drive...?
  5. ^^^a war is coming^^^........ I'm buy the Hopes from CRC.....to me, that more than good enough....
  6. Ok.....makes sense and R9k seems reasonable.... ...it however better be a late 2008 model on the prime less 5% finance plan.....else I'm ordering from overseas...
  7. Ok....whoever imports these, please explain the price difference: I clicked this ad banner on thehubsa.co.za and see that these nice pink hubs for the GF cost US$535 and that includes the shipping.... see here If I order them for her it can potentially cost me (535 x 8.20) x 1.14 = R5001.18.... Qoutes I've got locally for Chris King hubs is no less than R9k...... bak2basiks2009-05-28 02:15:56
  8. I personally would not buy a carbon frame, but i don't think its overrated....its "natural" stiffness is a big plus and (what I consider the best attribute) they smooth out the vibrations. Carbon hardtail frames ride very, very smooth.....
  9. I am a GOOD wrench' date=' like everything I do I do it well. I am a bit of a perfectionist. I also have no option, I live in Angola where there are not many bike shops. I repeat, anybody can fix their own bicycle. Mostly people are just too lazy to do it. You do not need much time...... it is normally done with regular inspections and in conjucntion with your bike wash. Surely a cyclist is in touch with his bike, it is a tool he uses every day and if he is a good workman he will know when the tool needs maintenance or repair. Those that do not do this are merely ignorant or lazy.[/quote']
  10. Let me just make one thing clear.... I take no issue with LBS charging service fees....to me...they are expensive and therefore I do most of my bike servicing....other's feel different.... Have your bike serviced at the shop, pay them their fees...I have NO issue with that... Having my shock serviced for R250....every 6 months is damn good value....and the guy doing it is an absolute expert...!!
  11. For me? 10 min to strip my whole bike... This can take a while, but it should not take longer than 30min.... I'll consider cleaning and re-lubing as one.....so its part of the 30min...this excludes the chain of course.... Aahh....here is where the BIG fark up comes and its where one see how quickly and carefully they worked on your bike.....but I would say another 10 to 15 minutes ... So, there.....some shops will have your gears screwed...others will have them sooo spot on after the service....anyway....all I'm saying is that I do not see the need to have my bike serviced for R350, but serviced well/properly for R700.... Shops ask R200/service just to lube and wash the bike, its madness...that's rediculous....then why not have a "drive-thru" bike service centre, cause that take less then 10min to do, not a whole day....now there is a good idea for someone here to capitalize on..... Its a pity I can't pay myself for the work I do on my bike.... since you view bicycle servicing as a race, i certainly wouldn't want you working on mine. i believe i spend more time in a bike shop than most, and your comment about "Shops ask R200/service just to lube and wash the bike" is soooooo wide of the mark. hhmmm....i don't think so... ....have a look on the shops wall.....for rates and fees....Minor service....R200....major service: R350....i think that these prices are the average.... maybe you read as fast as you work on a bike?my issue is with these words "just to lube and wash the bike"? let me clear up your confusion....I know exactly what you meant...... so now....put us all on the same page....in YOUR book.....what is a "minor" service to you....I can guarantee you that most people taking their bikes in for minor services will BASICALLY have their chains lubed and bike washed... They WILL NOT strip your bike for a minor service.... ...all that "check all cables, brake pads and wheels" is a 1 minute affair....as is realigning you brake calipers..... so...you see....now the line between minor and major is starting to become fuzzy...... bak2basiks2009-05-27 01:23:38

  14. My bank account is being drained on a daily bases with bike stuff.... I'll pay for what I want, but I want to pay a fair price. R350 for a full service, then I think it should be damn spectacular, because I think 350 bucks is a lot of money. I've gotten my bike back from a few shops after a MAJOR service, only to redo the job myself.....slowly but surely, I'm servicing my bike myself, buying a new tool every time I visit a bike shop....after I'm done with my bike, it looks brand spanking new after a mud fest or 50km ride...apart from the "newly added" battle scars.... Bike shops will not give your bike back the way YOU WOULD WANT IT BACK...forget it....we all have different yardsticks of what is a good job and what is not...no need in shaming the shops...having said that....one shop assitant might be great and another might suck....I've had such experience numerous of times where I would spend a long time chatting and getting advice on parts and how to service some stuff on the bike....the same shop with another assitant can very easily fark up the whole "bonding with your LBS" experience.....making you start all over again.... And oh yes...CRC and other online shops are making buying online hassle free....I saved almost R3k ordering from them as oppossed to buying locally....fellow MTBer at work put in his order today and will be saving R7k......I have decided that any new bike part will be sourced from online shops.....local shops are just tooo expensive.....and I really feel sorry for them....honestly, I do...
  15. For that...there is nothing out there....sorry..... BUT.....a 2 year old Volvo V40 2.4i/T5 might be just the thing you want... Resale value........pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezzzze.....Nothing holds its value these days.....not even a VW Golf GTi.....retail maybe....but TRADE...forget it!
  16. Doom prophets...you lot...... Winter only here late July/beginning August...
  17. IBM all the way...these things are tough as nails.....not so sure on the SL500 build quality, but the T and R series are rock solid inside and are REAL notebooks that can be knocked, dropped and used as intended...also.....the plug in EVERYWHERE....and JUST WORK...no need for adapters and stuff.... MacBook....the same as a a Louis Viutton handbag....expensive and not so nice....
  18. Skateboarders over 10yrs old dont wear pads. You can't have skulls all over your board' date=' shoes and t-shirt and then have knee pads on. Finding adult size protection pads is real hard. Dont shell out major money either as she'll use them twice and get over the worrying and not need them again. the Fox shop at Canal Walk has Knee/Shin combo pads that aren't too much. [/quote']... Thanks guys...will keep hunting....been around the northern suburbs this afternoon and dropped in at moto-bike shops....they had some sixsixone kneepads (R350....) stuff that looked the business, but would be absolute hell to cross-country with....the Toy-R-Us scateboard pro-tek-sin....is maar dun...broer... The whole idea is to have her not think about "the inevitable clip-in crash" so much....knowing you have "some safety net" frees you up from those thoughts... Anyways, I'm not out to buy her R800 stuff for just two/three rides....but even spending a "senseless" R200 seems too much....
  19. Hi, the clipin pedals and shoes are freaking out the GF, but she's giving them a go...I'm looking to get her elbow- and kneeguards.....any pointers where I can go look in the Cape Town area...? Shot..
  20. "PREVENTS" would have been more truthful than "CAUSE"....
  21. All the best and may God bless you with a speed recovery...
  22. Just got my 2 x Maxxis Crossmark from CRC for.....hmmmm..let me see....R226.......saw my tyre in the bike shop today for....hmmm...waitfor it....R595....I made sure it was the same tyre........ I do support the local bike shop....to the detriment of my relationship.....but I've seen the light....CRC....
  23. Wynn's clean green and I high pressure spray gun....wash with whole bike with a sponge and some diluted Clean Green....I scrub my cassette and chain to death with Clean Green...After a damn good rinse, I wash my bike with Meguire's car shampoo and wax it afterwards with Meguire's Deep Crystal wax.....rinse with high-pressure spray gun and then I dry my whole bike down with a microfibre cloth...also, I dry my chain as well.... After a good 4 hour bake in the sun, I lube with Squirt....
  24. The FORCE......parcel force international.....go check the post office....
