  1. UPDATE...!!!!!!!!!! Got my stuff...!!!!!....had to pay R540 (vat/customs???) on R3300 order from CRC....included were hydraulic Juicy brakes, Mavic wheels and maxxis crossmark tires.....ALL in good order....I ordered last week Thursday and the stuff arrived yesterday at the posy office....dropped in there this morning and..........there it was........ Just fitted the wheels and tires and I'm off for a quick spin soon.................!!! bak2basiks2009-05-07 08:29:52
  2. my order is still in jozi..........since sunday.........
  3. Ok....tracking my stuff is cool...but now its stuck in Jo'burg @ the airport somewhere.....is there a way to sort of "reboot" the shipping process.....it went well from CRC to Jozi (2 days) and since it arrived in Jozi 4 days ago, its still there.....
  4. Doing the same with my Felt RXC2 frame....making it a superlight, fast rolling HT....nobody interested in a brilliant 1.4kg frame, so I'm building it up as well... All the best...
  5. there is no-doubt I'm ordering me a pair from them. Even if they come out destroyed its still 50% cheaper than having them built locally....maybe if CRC destroyes them (which I doubt), their return/refund policy seems to be great....google online forums that discuss CRC's stuff....they do get good reviews....
  6. so.......what are you saying.....DT 5.1 rims.....rather than the Mavics...? I'm also not so clued up on the DT Swiss rim series.....more the mavics.... Hope Pro 2 is a given, but the rims are still 50/50 decision....can't say that I'm over the moon for the Mavics, but it seems like a safe bet....
  7. Ok thanks everyone.......those hubs are only available in black......does not make a difference (black/silver) in ride, but being so close to the bling factor one must order them blinged up....
  8. YES, yes...that's what I'm doing....hopes, mavic 819 ust, etc....but which hubs...? should I just go for the standard....pro 2...they only have "black" in the custom wheel build available...
  9. Please help.... I'm ordering the Hope Pro 2 hubs from CRC, but I'm not sure which hubs to order. I've got a standard Mongoose Canaan dual-suss, 27 speed.... What must I order??? Front: Hope Pro 2 disc front or front "15mm"....32h or 36h...? Rear: Hope Pro 2 disc rear or 12mm...or 10mm saint...???....I don't know what these mean...?.... The have the Silver in stock...front 32h and rear 36h....does it matter if I run 32 spokes in the front and 36 at the rear.....does this make the rim stiffer, stronger with more spokes....or just heavier...?
  10. Wanted to order a pair meself, but I was warned that these guys have got something wrong on the hubs...keeps chowing bearings....decided on the Hope Hoops...
  11. That is one of the silliest remarks I've ever seen! South African importers are screwing consumers blind! They get away with this because not everybody is in a position to order directly from international suppliers' date=' while others are worried about the risk. I am a proud parrallel importer (even if I only import for myself). Sooner or later there will be enough people like me to force local importers to change their behaviour. [/quote'] Well said....I'm with you on that one....never imported something myself..BUT eagerly awaiting that first time!! With confidence....it's a Global Village now. That's me too....been checking the PFI website and "tracking" my stuff day by day...should have it 2day or 2moro....
  12. Can't complain either...bought a fork from him and received it the following day....Great stuff.....fork works 100%...
  13. Ok....so no one is interested in my brilliant Felt RXC2 frame and Recon Race fork.... Stuff it... So now I'm considering building a light weight singlespeed bike.... I have: Felt RXC2 frame - 1.4kg; RS Recon Race fork, 80mm - 1.8kg; Seat, seatpost, stem, handlebar and grips - 2kg; Wheels - 3kg.... I need: crank, BB and chain ring; hydraulic brakes; rear cog and new chain; Is that it...? Any singlespeedsters out there that can advise before I sign off the project for commission... I'm considering rebuilding the wheels later with some cool hubs and stuff, but I first want to get going with this...
  14. squirt...
  15. ...2007 post....hmmm....might b sold by now.....
  16. I take it that this is with CRC? If so, then I'm going to go with a linear scaling on everything..... Buying from CRC items that come to about 20% of your bill, I'll pay 20% of your vat and make a saving of 20% of your saving......so... CRC asks me R4000, I should pay about R600 vat and I'll save about R1000-R1200 compared to a local buy....seals the deal for me....
  17. Mampara, thanks for your advice, but you're about 16 hours too late.....its on my bike already..... this is why I was awake till looooooooooong after the end of the IPL game thinking about the "stupid" decision I made to spend the money on a cable kit...I've spent so often unnecessary amounts of cash on "junk" at the bike shop....especially bike tools....
  18. That's where I stopped short of buying them...they look absolutely koolbeans, but when I heard that dirt gets in between the links, it put me off immediately....R700 is too much for, what the Germans would call, "eine Staubva\"nger".... I'll see how the the XTR kit performs on my dual-suss.....would be sad if it does turn out to be a complete waste of cash....should've gotten the floor pump and shock pump for the cash I spent of the kit...
  19. I was mulling over the EXACT SAME question yesterday in the bike shop. Went for the XTR cable kit after half-an-hour of wondering. I was also considering the R700 Alligator "bling" cable guides.....hmmm... After thinking about it last night, I think the cable kit is a waste of my money in any event.....if you love your bike, you'll replace cables every year instead of a lube....why I went and spent the money, I don't know....but I'm convinced I wasted it....
  20. Not sure bout the team bike, but the complete 2008 Meteor Elite bike weighs in at 11.25kg....the frame is just silly light and uberbling....
