  1. I'm on edge with the mountain kings. To me, the nobbies on the tire seem very weak compered to say the Maxxis Ignitors I had. The Ignitors gave awesome grip with 2.0-2.4bar of pressure, but I struggled with speed. The MKs on the other hand seems a bit "nowhere". I'm not very confident with them on the gavel because the front does seem a bit gripless...however, I ghetto'ed the MKs yesterday and will test them this afternoon and see if they are any better....
  2. Did the ghetto thing.....AWESOME... Used Stan's little bottle for one wheel (R35) and a BMX tube (R40) = R75/wheel... Will take the bike out for a ride 2moro
  3. Hey, I'm doing the Ghetto tubeless thing this weekend.... any advice on what snot I'll need and where to get it in the CT-Paarl-Stellenbosch-Somerset West-Strand radius.... saw guys using some latex mix rather than stan's or joe's and some suggest slime too.... EDIT: no need...I'll find what I'll need: http://www.yellowsaddle.co.za/Docs/docs%20html/Homebrew%20MTB%20Tubeless%20conversion.html bak2basiks2010-01-29 07:55:14
  4. The Meteore frame has an integrated headset IIRC. TH Industries.....top and bottom....tjeers....
  5. I had the exact same problem and it turned out to be the crown race. Fit the crown race that comes with the headset. Oh yes, and remove the bottom dust seal of the headset....that will return the streering to "power-assisted" feel...
  6. Ok....we have two bikes....four Fox shocks.... That's R1k in services a go...every 40hrs......... JB....when is the next fork/shock service course running in the WC in 2010.... I'll pre-register, etc....
  7. Matchstix WeightWeenie yeboabe Wernervdmerwe and many more....
  8. went for the PG980 off CRC...but then again I run SRAM RD.. sweet stuff....PG990 stuff...without the bling....and the price of course...
  9. Check on the left, there is a "Search Box"...type in CRC in the "Forum Only" search box, hit "Go"....topic discussed ad infinitum.... hope that helps... bak2basiks2009-12-10 08:43:44
  10. TH Industries on my brand new FSA MX Orbit threadless headset... ....THE EXACT SAME..... TH Industries in my semi-integrated headset on my ex-Mongoose Canaan and "Cane Creek" branded beloved ex-Felt RXC2... bak2basiks2009-12-10 08:41:03
  11. I hold a Master's degree....I don't earn much money, but when I get paid for my expertise, I earn about R375/hour... I was wondering if I can charge a doctor my hourly rate (or part thereof) when they are late for my consultation. Usually I get an appointment for 10:30. The docotr has no problem seeing you at 10:50, nevermind you having to be back at work at 11. Don't get me wrong here, I think that doctors need to be paid well. But this demand/supply rule is really working for them. EDIT: It still hurts me... bak2basiks2009-12-04 12:20:37
  12. Nice review Crow.... @Mod: Can we have a sticky on bike reviews and maybe bike demo days...?
  13. make it easy on yourself....blow your R18k budget with another R3k....and get urself something you thought you would never own....
  14. CRC has both front and rear RED Hope's in stock........"umshini wam".........
  15. Anyone use an alternative online shop for ordering wheels? I want to get red hope pro 2 hubs on some rims....CRC has the black in stock. I'm not interested in mixing and matching at the moment... any advice...? Ok....are there any other hubs to recommend that are as noisy as the Hopes and that are RED...please..........please no CK or I9....its going on HER bike.... bak2basiks2009-10-26 12:04:20
  16. I'm looking at the XT hubs on CRC. Is it worth it to buy the M756 set (front and rear) for about 60GBP? I'm planning on building them onto Mavic XM317 rims.... I'm looking for the 6-bolt versions, and I know that one gets converters for the centerlock.
  17. Ok...registration was a disaster....so what....I q'd for about 30min....went back to the parking lot......waaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy back there, got my bike, lubed it, checked the tyre pressures, filled my hydro-pack....and went back to registration. Then I q'd for 40min good to go...... I think too many buddies allowed their buddies to push in making it a nightmare for the others waiting their turn to register.......if most people waited their turn, or went to the back to q, then it would have taken each peorson 15min max to register....but if you were caught round the corner under the huge umbrella, you went nowhere....!!! After that.....all was forgiven....brilliant route and excellent WEATHER....last year was a nightmare..... Also, I would like to thank the organizers for cutting out that killer of a climb on the 60km route, 15km from the end.....it was such a relief not to have to have gone up there again.....however, my body gave up the ghost 1km from there.....the tank was empty.....legs were cramping...walked like the gingerbread man.....it was horrible...towards the end....will need to get fitter.... I honestly think that there are toooooo many moaners....the route was excellent, well marked, well marshalled, well stocked at the water points with water, coke, energade, jelly babies, marshmellows, bar-ones and bananas....honestly...I think it was THE BEST water points ever... One suggesting.....I WANT A MEDAL NEXT TIME....A PIN IS NOT CUTTING IT FOR SUCH A GREAT RACE.....GET ME ONE OF THOSE Stellenbosch Challenge medals.... I will ride gravel-travel again next year.....60km.....!!
