  1. So where is everyone for the holidays? I think we should have somehow organized a ride day/weekend over the summer... I am in Hahei from the 22nd - 27th Dec (with my road bike and fishing rod) and then fly to Nelson from the 27th-5th Jan (with my Intense) and then either back to Hahei or Bay of Islands or to Rotorua for the last weekend. Back to work on the 9th.
  2. Around Taupo Lake (160km) in a crazy wind..
  3. Tomorrow I am going to attempt the Around The Lake race ride. I have not been on a bike (of any sorts) in 2 weeks. I have not sit really (even on a chairs) as I have a standing desk at work now (coccyx damage after accident). I am riding as part of the Holden team. I don't even like Holdens I am obviously only doing it for the VIP tent (free beers etc) afterwards. And if I can still walk and sit on Sunday I will be going for a trails ride in Rotorua !!
  4. Nope, we came back for me to be at work on time #stilldonthaveleave
  5. Not yet, took my road bike this past weekend. On my next trip I am planning to go have a looksee.
  6. https://www.google.co.nz/maps/place/65+Buffalo+Beach+Rd,+Whitianga+3510/@-36.8197999,175.6987777,19z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x6d725c3bcdfefc6f:0x126b8d66385debff!8m2!3d-36.8197999!4d175.6993262 I woke up at this spot this morning, yip, right across the beach, but woke up by my own alarm (4:30am) because we didn't hear the tsunami alarm but apparently half the town did evacuate when the alarm went. I wouldn't think that a tsunami would be a huge threat there with all the island protecting that bay a lot.
  7. When is that opening again?
  8. Nice solo sightseeing ride on the east coast of the Coromandel into a wet windy storm
  9. I desperately need new ones. Thanks for the steer in direction.
  10. I also got to make a trip down to Rotorua with the bike (and went for a solo road ride around Taupo Lake). I loved Rotorua so much that I'll be riding there in 2 weeks again and another trip planned the 2nd weekend of December where a group of us will have sole use of the shuttle bus Settling into NZ with plants going eventually (tomato mainly)....pic is taken weeks ago so they are much bigger now (they are planted on the farm). Also getting nicely settled into the kitchen here; nice pies made, banana breads etc Then news from home....building is going up nice a fast. I predict another 8 weeks and roof will be up and maybe windows in too. This weekend we are off to "Mum and Dad" again in Whitianga. I am taking the road bike as I am very far behind in prepping for the Around The Lake race in 2 weeks ... Luckily I will have Wayne pull me over the last hill Loving the road trips! I honestly can not see myself living anywhere else in the world at this moment. I am really loving it. Yes I have had my downs, but I can say those are days I have either not ridden my bike in 2 days or when I have just gotten overwhelmed by the change of all things at one time (work, life, family things back home, relationship, day2day planning etc)
  11. Sheesh feels like I haven't been on here in forever (well I check in but seldom find time to post)....it doesn't mean I have not been busy around on the bike The biggest news I guess is that Wayne lend me (well a kiwi) his bike and I got to take the bloke on his 1st ever trails ride and he loved it (1st bike ride basically since school)....yip he is asking when are we going again We went to Waihi beach for the weekend (now a couple of weekends ago) and then went to ride the trails at Whangamata, the whole park wasn't open due to logging but the trails we did were fun! We also went fishing at some private beaches one actually had to hike to and beer...we drink PLENTY of beer. He is part of the game fishing club and hence we can go into most fishing/marine clubs and have $5 handles Some eels at the place we stayed and the view from the room. (We both like morning swims so we do that when ever we stay across the road from the sea.) Have I mentioned that we basically never drive past a pub without having a beer.... Then I guess the 2nd biggest thing the last couple of weeks was that I was taken out by a car that jumped a roundabout...she apparently didn't see me because her window was fogged up (she drove into my left side mostly on the back wheel making me skid into the other side of the road). Luckily the road wasn't busy, it was about 6:30am on my way to work. My max heartrate was only 179bpm at impact. Back wheel needed fixing and I just had bruising and a bit of skin off on my rights side. Sore body but I think my confidence got the biggest knock. I got back to commuting a week later though and now back in full swing I will say (not confident with the horrible gusts we have been having though). The last weekend I took that kiwi bloke wakeboarding on the Waikato river. We did a beer stop down the river of course I mist say steering a boat, taking pictures of a wake boarder going side to side and making sure the depth of where you are going in a river you have never been on is quite tricky...
  12. I realized that I haven't bought new road cycling kit in over 3.5 years and I spend quite a bit of time on the road so thought I will go all out (One of the last 2 are water resistant. One for 3hours, 5hours and 6+ hours.)
  13. And then it happened. .... I was taken out by a car this morning on my way to work. I can say that I've never really been scared of that happening. Where and how it happened just makes it so much worse cause there was no way I thought anyone couldn't see me clearly. She jumped a round about claiming she didn't see me because of misty windows... I wasn't even going fast and was well into the circle that she actually side impacted me. Guess this will mentally take a while to get over now.

  15. Damn the road surfaces here are tough on road tires. I basically had new ones on from back home and I haven't done much mileage at all yet and it is getting flat on top already. I think I need to invest in another wheel set soon with training tires and the other for when I join 'group rides' and need to keep up
  16. My 1st road race in NZ today for a team (only been on my road bike for 3 weeks in the last 5 months), thought I would be last but wasn't. .haha. ..6 members per team and my team got 1st and 3rd in overall ladies ???? the NZ cycling teams were there too. no to go get fit!
  17. Today is the 1st day in over a week I haven't used my bike into work and it feels great to be able to do it. (I need my car today for shopping after work...haha)... 157km for this week thus far by bike (just commute )
  18. I can eventually comment on this thread now after commuting more times than I have fingers and toes. One big thing I have noticed is that cars are way more forgiving in the morning than in the afternoon.
  19. Up and over twisty Twilight Road..
  20. My 1st time in over 10years shooting a gun. Need to practice for the magpies..hahaha .22 , about 50m out on grass embankments, target printed on a A4 page.
  21. Haven't made a cycling purchase in what feels like forever...this to go with my nice bright yellow road helmet Done a few km's already with them, the 1st time out with them I got attached by a bird non stop for about 3 km so I thought it was the glasses that attracted it (wasn't the case)..hahaha.... they aren't as good as my Rudy's to ride with in the early mornings before sunrise (too dark) but they are great in the rain. Somehow it doesn't form those water drops on the lens.
  22. I have the wind for resistance training and the magpies for sprint training now I see one and I pedal my heart out...while saying a bad word or 2!
  23. You don't kill cockroaches when you see them in your house? Or flies? No mozzie plugs in your home? Want me to carry on?
