  1. Guy seems to be missing the point of mass. All are welcome. The only requirement is that you like riding bikes.
  2. these are the specs of the hubs as far as i can tell. The hubs have an older 6 bolt configuration. 4300 Disc WHEELSET FRONT WHEEL . . . . . . 3. I am building up a single speed on an old 2002 Trek 4300 - the frame has std 51mm IS mounts on the fork as well as an adapter for the rear of the frame. (bike was originally specced w hayes cable discs 160mm/140mm rotors) As im looking to put some hydraulic brakes on the build - What im trying to find out is - will any hydraulic brakeset fit these IS mounts? If i buy any brakeset that suits my budget (along with their relative adapters for the calipers and similar size rotors as the original spec) will i be able to use them? Also, how can i assure the rotors that come with the brakeset can fit the hubs? are all the spacings for rotor bolts the same? is the rotor size limited by the frame? its quite a crappy old fork - should i stick to the original spec of 160mm front / 140mm rear to be safe? any advice will be appreciated
  4. My New Beast
  5. looks like something out of alien vs predator! mean! To be honest i dont think im going to be tackling anything that will require full face lids and body armour anytime soon. like i said in the OP, just a beefier xc meets trail / jump helmet will do.
  6. http://www.bikeradar...-helmets-35496/ came across an interesting revue on the radar - some suggestions in the links at the bottom too.
  7. thanks for the pointers guys - gives me a much better idea of what im after - not so sure about the urge / poc stuff though? reminds of the helmets the trials / speedway guys wear. hahaha. i do like the look of the Kali stuff! also theres a 661 i have been eyeing out... choices choices.
  8. looking for something that can protect the back of my head a bit better than my met road helmet while trying "braver" activities on the MTB - have an old skate helmet that just gets way too hot! something like a fox flux seems the way to go? any other suggestions?
  9. Mark II for the win
  10. keen to join for 16h15 if i can get out of the office on time
  11. if you like walking or your wife is willing to drive to fetch you 50kms from home at sunrise - then no you dont need to ride with spares.
  12. the motorbike marshalls were on top form last nite!another awesome cm in the bag.thanks to all who joined the fun.
  13. As someone still learning how to tackle the heavy technical stuff more easily - i got an opportunity to borrow a full sus AM bike (150mm) for a burner and managed it hit stuff id never even come close to making on my humble hardtail. Theyre much more forgiving, but to be honest not a very rewarding experience - id rather duke it out on my hardtail and know that it was me and my skill that got me over those rocks than the fact that i could just point the bike and hold on.
  14. Im in 2 minds about the book - one the one side it really was a good read and showed a different side of what its like and what measures you have to compete at that level. on the other side of the coin - i think it was clearly a PR ploy to try and save some face from Tyler Hamiltons side. One things for sure , il never be able to watch those great tours from 2000-2005 again without looking at the racing in a whole new light... Even though there were clearly more athletes involved than just Lance Armstrong - I think LA is taking the brunt of it due to the fact that what he achieved supercedes what anyone thought possible? i mean 7 tour wins? clearly he had some kind of advantage over the other guys.... At the end of it all, i think they're all just pawns in some bigger game, treated like racehorses in the hopes of making as much money as possible for the Powers that be. I would love to find out more about who else was on Fuentes' / ferraris books to get a clearer idea of just how much of the peloton was actually cheating / making maximum mint for their "investors"
  15. In 2011 i rode a 2h38 94.7(A bunch) followed by lots of speed work and hills through Dec / Jan and all the fast races in Feb to ride a 2h58 in this years argus (B bunch) - You are gonna have put in some work, find a fast group like ICG or the Engen 2 Engen during the week and hang on for dear life, it will pay off come March.
  16. Do you know how much they are going to retail for?
  17. still shopping for a frame... thinking along the likes of a GT sensor / Giant Trance / Santa Cruz if i can find a bargain
  18. legends! Lastly, how do i choose the amount of rear travel? does it need to match the fork?
  19. Im looking at buying a second hand MTB frame. How do i know if all the parts i have for the build, will work with the frame i choose? What do i need to measure / check? I have a 120mm Rock shox recon silver i want to use on the front- does the rear travel have to match the fork? will be used for casual riding / trail jumps etc...
  20. pic in the Original Post Looks like a Cape Cobra or maybe a young Mole Snake - difficult to tell without seeing its head though.
  21. Now that is K@K scary - Black Mambas are known for being VERY aggressive when threatened and are the 2nd most venomous snake in the world if I'm not mistaken? Those suckers can easily catch you on your bike too! Black Mambas are one of the fastest snakes in the world capable of moving over 5m per second around 20km/h+ - top speeds of over 30km/h according to http://www.speedofanimals.com
  22. you can get a really nice bike for that budget, look at something like a scott speedster. or a 29" MTB with slick tyres - - - you shouldnt have to spend more than 10k to get something really nice to do the job - keep in mind spending money for spares, helmet, kit etc... if she s worried about the tyre width - the majority of hybrids use the same width tyres as road bikes - just a more comfy / upright riding position the MTB option is the way forward if youre just looking for a decent all purpose bike to have fun with (29" MTB wheels = 700c road wheels - just can take wider tyres)
  23. first make sure your bike is setup properly - a decent bike shop can help you with this , then just get out and ride have fun and see if you like the sport. as you ride more and more so the bug will bite harder.
  24. My old man weighs close on 130kgs and he hasnt broken his yet - theyre bomb proof. Rather pitch in for the 2013 with the rock shox if you can.
