  1. not sure if this is the right thread to post this, but damn - this slideshow makes me drool!
  2. i find Warmup oil helps keep your legs in race mode while you have to wait in the start pens .... that combined with a 5-10min spin / equipment check before the start seems to do the trick for me.
  3. +1
  4. We should have gotten free rain ponchos and wellies for that ride! To be honest, if the "goodie bags" were of the standard they used to be say 5/6 years back then yes, id say gimme! but really, how many mini soaps and baby packets of muesli do you need? i say spend the money on marshalls and road closures instead.
  5. FSA compact alu bars are the business. also doesnt make you wanna cry as much when you crash them. look at something like the wing compact.
  6. awesome,thanks dude.
  7. 2011 Shimano 105.Will book the service / assessment ASAP. how can i try polish it out? what should i use?
  8. thats how i discovered that he bumped his head as well!!!
  9. My now least favourite employee decided to grab my roadbike and go for a joyride without me knowing today. Needless to say he bloody crashed the thing and now i have to get it sorted b4 amashova next weekend. Luckily damage is more aesthetic than anything else. (he took the brunt of it my donating alot of skin and a nice bump on the head) so i need help re: the following: 1) he tore the hood over the sti lever apart - can you buy replacement rubber hoods? the lever seems to be ok aside from scratches etc... the little plastic bit that sits between the lever and the bottom edge of the rubber hood is toast too. necessary to replace? 2) there are paint chips from where he hit the tar - a carbon frame. frame seems ok, cant see any cracks etc... is it possible to get touch up paint done on carbon frames? do i need to respray? anyone know where i can get this done? 3) handlebar tape - duh - buy and replace 4) bars, jockey etc... all seem ok (thank goodness) aside from some nice scratches - is it possible to touch up scratched metal on a groupset? from the little 10km test ride i took it for to asess the damage, all seems in working order from what i can tell - should i still take it for a service in case? it was serviced around 4 weeks back. the guy earns peanuts to be honest and as much as i wanna punish the guy by making him replace all the parts he scratched up, id like to try keep the repair work to an absolute minimum for his wallets sake. any advice would be appreciated. cheers
  10. vredestein fortezza tricomp - high puncture resistance, grippy in all conditions and nice n fast- you can pump them as hard as 12 bar if you like.
  11. see if you can edit the start date in the training diary / training programs menu. Some of the programs eg 94.7 have set start dates though... if this is the case with your Sani plan- maybe write to them and see if they can reset it for you?
  12. tell me milking cream is a brand of chamois cream. bwahahaha
  13. i never use the stuff - so will do a bit of research - thanks wise jedi.
  14. what is the preferred chamois cream these days? i will take the advice and use it liberally!
  15. how did you feel by the last day? will i still have legs to have a decent ride at amashova? ive heard most cyclists get stronger as the trip progresses? i think im pretty fit as a far as training goes... 5-6 sessions - around 10-13 hrs a week- and can ride a 100km in under 3 hours.
  16. nice one how much abuse did your bike take? and your butt. hahaha will i need chamois cream and such?... im used to my saddle, a super comfy fizik arione..... im thinking of using my beater wheels for the trip and taking my racing wheels for Amashova (these can then also be backups should i break a spoke, buckle a rim etc... how many tubes etc...? What about nutrition? Should i just eat / drink as i do when i do on my usual 100km + rides? obviously just taking more bars/food/ cytomax etc.. along for the added time on the bike? ride schedule is as follows: day 1 .heidelberg to volksrust 200km day 2 .volksrust to ladysmith 185km day 3 .ladysmith to pmb 164km day 4. pmb to dbn (amashova) 106km everyone has been telling ,me about that day 3 and one certain "little" climb called gryffons... hahaha. Thanks for the input, any advice is much appreciated!
  17. Were riding from JHB to Pietermaritzburg over 3days to do the Amashova on day 4. Has anyone done this tour / trip before? any tips?
  18. Are you sure the stem is the right size for your forks steerer tube? As above, Stems with 2 or more bolts grip better..
  19. i lost over 17kg (dropping from 88kg - to 71kg in around 3 months) when i started racing again this year. a) eat less - eg one sarmie instead of two B) eat smaller portions more often - have some fruit or something as a snack between break and lunch, as well as lunch and dinner. (try not to eat too late as well) c) ride lots! long (2hr+ ) @ a low intensity 70-75% of max HR i used Phedracut XT and SF in conjunction with CLA and found it did help speed things up. XT in the am and afternoon - SF after 4pm as per instructions CLA 3 x per day i luckily had no issues with heart palpitations, sweats etc... however i did find you have to keep yourself well hydrated - drink the tabs with a nice big glass of water and make sure you take them with food - the whole idea is that CLA and phedra cut boosts your metabolism - keeping it burning all day. thus make sure it has something to burn all day! (i bought the combo SF and XT packs - 3 courses -each pack lasts about 28 days) and around 4 bottles of CLA (100mg - biogen). once I hit goal weight i stopped taking it and just ride lots instead! weight has been stable over 5 months now. oh the whiskey instead of beer thing is a biggie too .
  20. OLD seeding... kinda indicates how much of a priority keeping the whole thing up to date is doesn't it.
  21. a little irony to lighten the mood... check out the web URL for the seeding ladder: http://old.cyclelab.com/Seeding.asp
  22. of course it does... Perhaps the reason why results are apparently not signed off by the organisers? *plays eerie conspiracy theme music in the background As i mentioned above - take your results with to registration and try your luck applying for a better seeding (make sure it was a decent size event and timed by racetec / champ chip). If its obvious you're in completely the wrong group, surely the organizers will make a plan for you? Well thats the plan for Amashova and 94.7 anyways (i have been "seeded" in group J for Amashova - starting about 10 mins after the celeb, mtb, team amashova and comrades groups)
  23. Aside from stronger riders having to time trial their races moving up through the groups and criss crossing past the slower bunches (safety first kids!) -> it is demotivating for the weaker ones too! I started D2D in GL and a handful of us ended up finishing in the late 2hr 30's ... i remember one gentleman in the bunch saying to his mate as we were climbing past them up past toadbury hall... "**** . look at these guys... well never get that strong - and they started behind us!" Miff one Results from the timing co's are up on the net after a few hours - and they supposedly submit them to cyclelab / the index people (whoever they are?) once the organizers have paid them and signed off the results. But really how long can this possibly take? surely there is someone who manages the thing, chases the relevant parties involved?
  24. Hi All I recently started using a garmin HR monitor moving over from a more traditional Cardiosport. While setting up my training zones it gives me options to incorporate my resting HR and calculate zones according to HRR (heart rate reserve -> MAX HR less Resting HR) instead of Max HR as I've always done. The typical way I've always used HR zones (in relation to max HR) is as follows: 60%-70% max - recovery / warm up / cool down 70-80% max - aerobic /endurance 80-90% max - anaerobic / strength 90% -100% max - sprints / intervals /speed. How do zones calculated according to HRR differ? should i just leave my zones the way I've always done it? Essentially how should HR zones be setup? with HRR or Max HR Any advice would be much appreciated.Im 28 years old. my max HR is 202bpm and my average resting HR is between 47bpm and 52 bpm. Thanks
  25. yes, i understand that. I guess its a matter of waiting for the other parties to pull finger - and apply for manual re-seeding every time you enter an event until they do...
