  1. I guess one can just add it to the water container and drink it - when last have you de-scaled??!
  2. That's why my commutes aren't loaded - getting it from my Sigma (cheap monitor) to Strava is enough admin when I get to work Else that 50k mark would have been LONG gone I'm working at Hollard (13km) now (changed from MTN - 5km) so at least I have a worthwhile commute again! Sorted a locker for my shoes and laptop here and cycling clothes and towel hang on my desk It's about 8 degrees when I leave for work (all uphill) so cold isn't a problem! I commuted with a motorbike in Belgium for about 8 years so I laugh when people say it's too cold to commute by bicycle... so often did I have to hug my engine for a few mins before I could feel my hands and lock my motorbike!!
  3. Also got a bag of Holy Roller - was weird & uncomfortable holding it the first time!
  4. From what I remember the 'experts' here have recommended this one. Before I got my Bean to Cup machine I was using a cheap R250 Mellware grinder but I wouldn't know what taste damage I did to my beans vs the Severin
  5. Not as good as Takealot makes it out to be but R1.650 is the best 'normal' price I have seen - so R300 discount and free delivery not bad.
  6. https://www.takealot.com/severin-coffee-grinder-white-silver/PLID27985263 Severin - Coffee Grinder - White & Silver R 1,349
  7. Sjoe... after my near death crash last year (2 months ICU) Holy Roller often came into my thoughts as all worked out for me and not for him
  8. Thanks. Is about R300 for 1 kg beans the going / fair rate for quality beans? I'm currently contracting at Hollard and have about 3-4 Bean There coffees from the flask
  9. Sorry for asking this and not looking through the 344 pages Any suggestions re best price / quality beans for a Bean to Cup machine? I've been buying what's available at Checkers due to convenience (Foreign Ground Single Origin and others) but I'm sure I can do better as quality is meh... Anything online but need to keep freshness in mind... as they may want to get rid of old stock... My wife brought beans back from her Ethiopia SA Cycling trip but our bean to cup machine struggled grinding them so need to keep that in mind too!
  10. Yikes! Glad you can tell us the story!! So frustrating we get so little respect / recognition from many drivers - we can try be as visible & careful as possible but that's no guarantee = safety
  11. I'm very happy with my Mythos Bean to cup! New version: https://ryocoffee.co.za/products/bean-to-cup-coffee-machine-mythos-x1-ot-plus For any starters / low budget coffee addicts - make me an offer on the below - else I may just donate it to my dad, but he's in CT for only 6 months a year, so not that easy! https://www.takealot.com/russell-hobbs-cafe-barista-one-touch-coffee-maker/PLID42378422/reviews
  12. Looking after kids at Kiara Lodge was awesome and myself and kids were proud that mom got the QOM (and rode back down to help the team ) and her team won the Women's race. What a scenic area!! Just a pity about the rough and narrow roads for cyclists. I've done 3 DC' so would have loved to do this one to compare but only fair Jo gets a turn to race instead of carrying and looking after the little ones It would be interesting if all top women do the women's race rather than the mixed to see how close they could get to the men's team times. But maybe better for them they don't Well done to all finishers!!
  13. I'll be around with the kids as I'm doing kid sitting duties... why did I ever get my wife into cycling and discovered her talent! When we first dated she joined me on a bus trip to CT for me to do the Argus... I suppose it's payback time... Good luck and safe riding everyone!! See you at the finish
  14. Sorry for the repeat... I still have the Russel Hobbs for sale Cafe Barista One-Touch Coffee Maker My wife came back from Ethiopia African Champs (3rd) and bought 1 kg of roasted beans for R70 - not bad quality at all!
  15. We recently got the Jura GIGA X3 where I currently consult - MTN. Our floor has 3 of them! What a luxury. If I move client I'm going to have to kick-off!! Not the best of beans - Makro - else I would probably drink 10 cups a day!! Still for sale: Russel Hobbs Cafe Barista One-Touch Coffee Maker
  16. I got offered R1.200. No counter offers?
  17. It is looking rather DARK! But a bit of water isn't bad for you, just make sure you're VISIBLE. 5 km for me so a short adventure
  18. Is no one interested? What's wrong with you cyclists
  19. Advert posted in non-cycling: Man that Mythos is awesome https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/344659-russell-hobbs-cafe-barista-one-touch-coffee-make/
  20. I only have 5 km to cover but depending on my route I need to climb between 130m to 150m on my way to work. Back is 40m climbing and on my roadbike I managed to average 34.8 - no robots though and no it wasn't because of a CT South Easter tailwind
  21. We bought a bean to cup machine (Mythos - thanks Luke)! So if anyone is interested in our Russel Hobbs as per below please PM me. https://www.takealot.com/russell-hobbs-cafe-barista-one-touch-coffee-maker/PLID42378422 Only 2 months old. I can include my grinder: https://www.takealot.com/mellerware-aromatic-coffee-mill-grinder/PLID17259941 Thanks!
  22. Damn yesterday was interesting on my commute home... I tried to beat the incoming Joburg storm... roads were still dry so I didn't change into my cycling clothes to save time... thunder and lightening around... as I was 500m into my ride the rain came down hard and 1 second between lightening and thunder... I got so wet that when I got home I walked into the shower with my clothes on
  23. I probably only started wearing a helmet once 15-16 after riding my 50 cc too. Also made me think of my brothers accident... we were going downhill on a 2m wide pedestrian road and my brothers' bike brakes snapped and he flew past me and smashed into a passing car passenger's window. In Belgium if you come from the right you have right of way so the car had to pay for all his damage (incl. new brakes)
  24. Add to that fat painted zebra crossings... but that was when I was still commuting by motorbike in Belgium... I just managed to stick my foot out to save the bike during when front wheel slipped!
  25. I received 3 video's from shortly after my crash, where medics are attending to me an load me on the ambulance bed. Was pretty chilling at first as I don't remember any of it. Hectic to see the blood on my head and arm and my cracked helmet. I'm still upset they cut my cycling top and pants as they were my favorite! I can't load them here as they are too big. A good reminder of how far I've come and happy to still be here!! i still commute daily again - I don't do well or get the point sitting in traffic hence I cycle rain, shine or snow.
