  1. Can anyone recommend a solid door supplier - standard size for interior use? Perhaps even an entry level fire door. I'm looking to replace 4 hollow doors in my house to improve sound proofing. Preferably smooth texture and brown. Builders? Buco?
  2. True - hence the reason I did it myself to ensure the water flows away from the house. I would love to outsource some of my projects but I just don't feel like re-doing it all. Even if you pay good money the quality often matches the cheaper guys! I grew-up in construction in Belgium working with my dad who is a perfectionist. The things you see here are incredible. Finishing is often poor, how many skew walls I've seen... Re water proofing the floor is a short term solution. Find the route cause else the problem will just move to the walls, etc.
  3. For my bedrooms I got a quote for Alu for R55k and ended up paying R65k for UPVC. If you take into account the LT savings on energy, the security aspect (no need for burglar bars) and sound proofing (my neighbors parties and friggen dog barking) it's worth the extra R10k. Only problem I see is that they use Belgian (Deceuninck) locks / handles and German Rehau steel to re-enforce the UPVC which are becoming more expensive. Although the Rand is recovering a bit
  4. Other projects I'm busy with: Paving along our bedrooms - about 25m to go. Alternating light grey 30x30 pavers with a dark grey 15x15 paver and filling the spaces with white pebbles. Converting an unused Jacuzzi into a vegetable patch. Already moved it out the house. Soundproofing the wall between my nanny's room and my kids room with Soundlite boards - will glue them on with foam. Completed DIY projects: Putting in new irrigation pipes / sprinklers and fully automated the irrigation with a 6-phase rainbird. Covered about 100m of piping underneath my driveway, under a pathway etc.. I'll also extend it to my vegetable patch. Painted the house and bedroom roofs - I got someone to do this for me. Painted many of our rooms Plastering and fixed flooring around my new UPVC doors and windows Installed Pool heating panels - also got someone in Fitted a 500kg magnet to my one arm swing gate - got someone in to do electrical part Installed a climbing wall for my son With two small kids and cycling I'll probably need to get someone to assist else it will take too long to complete.
  5. If any of you are looking to replace steel / wood / alu windows or doors, you need to do so with UPVC. I did my bedroom windows / doors last year and the difference in temperature is amazing. I'm now busy with converting a patio into a sunroom with UPVC. No need for burglar bars as they have multi locking / windows tilt and turn option and double glazing. Get hold of these guys: http://www.moonstar.co.za/ And it pretty sound proof too and no maintenance and all custom made. I should become a sales agent for these guys
  6. I usually fit a R200 note on the inside of the tyre
  7. Ash is ready for the Olympics - competing and beating many of the worlds best: 50 seconds agoBoels #hillsclassic results: 1 @L_ArmiTstead 2 @AvVleuten 3 @ashleighcycling 4 @marianne_vos 5 @ellenvdijk
  8. Why no women road announcement... this is a good course for Ash. But is anyone able to support her... If you ain't racing in Europe (currently) against the worlds best then NO is my opinion. Congrats Louis and Daryl!
  9. No problem, If I'm in a rush I do one of the below but my route varies slightly depending on robots - either trough bottom, top of Emmerentia Park or over bridge. https://www.strava.com/activities/573354170 Or this one: https://www.strava.com/activities/579785039 If I have more time I do this: https://www.strava.com/activities/572299498 I try stay away from Beyers and Barry Hertzog as much as possible. I also use the Empire 'service' road. Crossing Empire / Jan Smuts can be tricky at times but make it clear to cars what you are going to do. If you feel the lane / road is too narrow for you and a car then just ride in the middle of the road - e.g. I do this on Barry Hertzog after the bridge going to Judith. In the evenings I do this: https://www.strava.com/activities/573727182 I use the BRT lane from Jan Smuts to Wits entrance.

Hard to believe I'm the only one commuting here at Liberty as they even provided bike racks, lockers and have shower facilities. If I go over NorthCliff hill (on the way here) I get 400m of climbing in 16km.
  11. This achievement should be in the newspapers countrywide! This is the toughest Tour on the Women's calendar. I've been following this race up close year after year and to get so close to a podium placing is a very impressive result. But it's not a SA issue, even the winner Anna only got a tiny mention in the Dutch media. Very sad as these women sacrifice, train, live for cycling as much as the men!
  12. She will still do some races, after breaking her ribs at Worlds she could barely train and still got 3rd in Satelite Classic and joint 5th in 94.7 (in support of her team mates who won both races). So she could still do really well on the local scene and have fun. She must just leave the bike for a while until the bug bites again and her body has recovered fully.
  13. I'm not sure if Robyn has made up her mind yet. Luckily there are some good youngsters coming up... the Daltons, Leandri, Carlee etc. But with CSA pulling their development sponsorship and MTN pulling out of women's cycling the future isn't looking good!
  14. Thanks! That was Jo's last race as a pro. She will now focus on her Business Analyst / Project Manager career and race for fun. Many don't know how hard it is to follow a training program for 6 days a week for the last 3-4 years, most of them combined with a full time job! The crashes and resulting scars and pains made it tough for her the last few months.
  15. Which local girls? You can't blame An-Li or Lise... Ash, Jo, Robyn and Cherise are more then on par, their overseas results and contributions prove this. The way Robyn led Cherise out for the hotspots also deserves a mention.
  16. The team set a very hard pace with 40km to go and four of them (Momentum - Toyota) had a sizeable gap. Sharon pushed on and the three others were caught by what was left of the bunch, but they realised a bit late Sharon was off the front. Lise was the only MTN rider left and she received very little help from other teams who were happy to race for second! Both Lise, An-Li and Ashleigh were 'flat' due to tummy bugs from African Champs.
  17. It's a team sport, "she made the 'other' local teams look like amateurs" is more appropriate.
  18. She will 'ride' SA cycling history in the years to come anyway
  19. I had a sImIlar experIence but beIng hIt wIth a paIntball gun! Pretty scary and frIggen sore!
  20. Marianne Vos (25 years old, so many more victories to come)! Eddie gets my vote, but I agree that was a different era.
  21. Two options: 1) Cradle route, from Toadburry hill upwards and through the Cradle, not ideal with the bumps, circles and down sections. 2) Robert Broom, start at the Sterkfontein caves intersection and up Protea Ridge where the D2D finished, you only have to get accross one stop street.
  22. The steak and carbo loading clearly worked for him as he won the VA D2D today, albeit not on his SS
