  1. 125 people so far..... I guess this will also not be a wet suit legal swim?
  2. I'm picking up my new Bianchi C2C on Friday afternoon and am playing with the idea of breaking it in on Sunday - bad idea or do you think it would be OK? I can do the 90km quite easily on my TT bike and I will probably take the new bike on a 60 - 90km ride out first time anyway so any reason not to take her out on Sunday?
  3. Has anybody done the Pretoria West triathlon before? What can we expect? Where do we get more info, register etc?
  4. So how did you guys enjoy yesterday's race? I had a good time but the heat was a shocker.
  5. I had the same issue with my ITB after Transbaviaan this year. Tried everything to get rid of it - Physio, Foam roller, Cortisone etc etc. My next stop was to go for the release surgery when I hear of Lyno Therapy. On my third treatment now and I'm back to cycling for 2hrs at a time without any pain. One or two more session to go and I should be back in the game completely. If you think a foam roller hurts - wait till you go for Lyno, much much worse. Check out the website - http://www.lynosport.co.za/ - also some good advice about stretching on there....
  6. anybody willing to take a bet whether this weekends race in Sun City will be wetsuit legal or not? I truly hope it is wetsuit legal....
  7. I swim there at least once or twice a month from August this year - never had any issues nor have they warned me about hippos or anything else for that matter when I paid for the swimming at reception
  8. If I could shave I would - but being close family with wolverine, I wouldnt know where to stop.
  9. Get a Tri bike and do real triathlons. Sprint distance and draft legal events are for girls. And if you get a road bike, you will always look at the tri bikes coming past you with longing eyes wondering what it would be like to ride such an awesome bike.
  10. I am traveling to the UK (Central London) in about two weeks time and was wondering if it was worth taking an almost empty suitcase and stocking it up with cycling goodies on the other side? I browsed the websites of a few UK based bike shops and they dont seem much cheaper than what we get the stuff for here. I would love to come back with a decent set of racing wheels (even maybe a new/additional bike if its a good deal...) and some triathlon kit as the stuff is super expensive here (and it seems there too). If anybody has some tips and places to visit while I am there to do my cycling/tri shopping, please share....
  11. Was there photographers at the race on Sunday? I recall plenty guys with big lens cameras taking photos on the bike and in the transition areas. Or was it family/friends of some competitors...?
  12. I really enjoyed the event. Had a decent swim and cycle but an terrible run due to a rookie mistake that screwed up my whole race. I drank too much on the bike and started the run with a stomach full of water/32GI sloshing around with every step. Will have to learn to manage my hydration in the heat a bit better.
  13. I'm not really one to complain about goodie bags but but wtf is up with the Joburg Tri "goodie" bags. I expected something special after the promotional material highlighting how cool these will be with content worth over R800.... and whats with that "technical running shirt" (aka vest) Lets hope the race is better and lives up to the expectations created.

  15. So how did the race go?
  16. The Island Estate will be a BSG event and not part of the Jhb city try series - water quality is apparently quite good.

What would the best place be to train for this cycle leg in jhb? Currently doing the Cradle loop on the weekends, from my house comes in just short of 70km. Aim at doing a second loop which should take the total up to around 100km? Or is there a better place to train for the 70.3 cycle leg?

More or less that - I will like to cut some time of the bike though - aiming for below 3h10 Being my first 70.3 these are the goals I am training towards. On the day, I'll take it as it comes and see what happens.

    IMSA 2012

This will be my first year doing triathlons and I am aiming to give the full a shot in April (despite many saying dont do it in your first year.... ) My planning to get there.... - Started training with with a program specifically developed for my current level of fitness and goals - Also joined a swim squad three times a week - Aim to enter each and every triathlon (and duathlon and open water swim if time allows) on the calender between now and April to get racing fit I am aiming to do the 70.3 in around the 6hr mark and just to finish strong on in the full Ironman. Given the time and amount of races between now and April, I am confident that it's all achievable. I have also entered for the majority of events already, so every morning when I dont feel like getting up to train, I remind myself of the money spent and that there is no more pulling out.
  23. Although several websites still give different dates - I managed to confirm from the event organisers that it would be on the 23 October. It was apparently moved out due to a clash with an Energade triathlon
  24. Does anybody know what the date for this event will be? On the Cycle Lab website they have it as Sunday 23 October but on the Franco Sport website and a flyer I got in a magazine recently, its advertised as Sunday 2 October
  25. Get a foam roller - works wonders....
