  1. That used to make me feel a little better.
  2. Some of the stuff you read in the papers is certainly fit for a Hollywood blockbuster. This chick in fairie glen who got gunned down by 2 guys on a bike for example. Yesterday in PE; 5 would-be robbers got shot and killed by police after attempting to rob a truck carrying liquid platinum. What do “they” want to do with liquid platinum? Cops got tipped off and was lying in wait posing as truck drivers. This guy in Durban who’s apparently gotten his girlfriend and her brother to kill their own parents. Things are wayyyyyy out of control in this country.
  3. I came off pretty hard in a group ride Friday morning. And donated some skin to the tarmac. Kept it clean anti-bacterial wash and antiseptic cream over the last 2 days. Just left it open but will bandage it up today. It seems to be healing nicely. Arm jus looks a little swollen and it feels like the skin is tightening up around the wounds so I'm trying to stretch it from time to time and that's my only discomfort. It seems to be okay but should I be taking/doing something else.
  4. Counterfate goods is becoming so big its just insane. There's a chiness lady coming around here weekly with fake dvd's. She's already got the new Bond movie. Its not only the Chinese anymore although most of it still originate there. In Istanbul the other day, guys selling fake designer handbags emphasized the point that the bags did not come from China. Their own was supposedly much better quality than the chinese stuff. Something the missus confirmed. Apparently Louis Vuitton in Paris refuse to let chinese ppl into their store. I saw some fake Iphones and Ipads and I cant tell the difference. Clearly the chinese authorities couldnt be bothered to stop this. It will be interesting to see how Europe and the US "eventually" react to this in light of economic clout shifting towards Asia. The market for fake goods is becoming bigger than that for the real thing. And its all increasing China's exports. The way fake goods are now available on-line is just crazy.
  5. So what if he wants to tell everyone he has an Ipad? Give the guy a break its his small reward and payback for sitting in the northern hemisphere with its miserable weather far removed from his family and friends. Anyway, that thing that he mentioned, that some people don’t want him to call by name, although everyone now knows what it is, is doing wonders for my time spent on the IDT. But I’ve got the same problem as the OP. Have to make “that thing I don’t want to mention by name” stand in its pouch positioned on the laundry drying rack in front of me. But looking at that picture. Me mother is a choir master and she uses this little stick/wand to conduct And her music laid out in front of her on a stand that looks just like the one fitted on them bars. I just need to lose the stand on it and get a bracket to mount onto the bars and its kaapeesh! The only problem will be sweat dropping down but should be far enough forward.
  6. I like your writing style btw. Very articulate and woulda been funny if it wasn't such a horrible experience
  7. FAAAAAARK DUDE! Unbe-faakin-lievable. I read this 2 times!
  8. Saw some comments on facebook bout Tissink “not having the legs this year”. I think he finished in 5th last year didn’t he? How does his time compare to that? I think this year saw a course record?
  9. They do look the part alright, and fit well. I love it but the effect on the body is the worst I've ever experienced. The quick on and off is great as well. They very comfortable for short periods but extended hours....
  10. Funny I'm not a heavy oke. 78kgs to be exact but those shoes certainly is very light and they make me sore in places I didnt even know I had. Thanks for teh advice. been lazy to run. Training on the bike is now behind sched for the 94.7 so dont know when I will get on the treadmill
  11. I’ve been riding for 3-4 hours 2 days a week for the last 5 months since Argus. I was just looking to increase that to 5 days a week when work got too hectic, then got sick and went on holiday. All of a sudden I haven’t been on the bike for 4 weeks. While doing the tourist thing though I was wearing Nike Air Rifts which got my feet hellova sore on day 1. Day 2 the muscles around my left knee got so sore it felt like it was going to buckle under me. It was like the knee couldn’t support my weight. The pain eventually worked its way into my back. I flooked like an old man having to move around very carefully as it felt like I was going to pop something and end up on my backside on the street. I eventually bought a pair a flip-flops from a market and the relief was immediate. So much for Nike’ then. I don’t know what the heck it is with those shoes I’m not putting my feet anywhere near them again. Feeling better now but my calves and quads are still very very sore. And this just from walking and walking. I don’t feel this way when cycling, not even after Argus at which I cramped badly. It’s obviously different muscles getting worked from when I’m on the bike but still, how come I’m so sore. The missus walked and walked the same places I did and she doesn’t feel a thing and she NEVER exercises? Why am I so sore?
  12. Can't believe you pay to ride the bikes you paid 10 to 50 thousand gorillas for. Is there anything you don't pay for? Flip.
  13. will be my 3rd: 1 # 2010 (4:29) took up cycling with 10 weeks to go 2 # 2011 (3:56) Cramped. Trained 5 months 3 # 2012 (Hopefully 3:15 - 3:30) Been training all year 2013 . . . Hopefully 2:59 All finance permitting! Hellish expensive trip!
  14. I see alsorts of banner ads popping up when visiting the hub. Anything from the usual the bikeshop ads to others non-related. How does these ads work cause I'm sure these advertisers dont pay the owners of the hub directly for advertising on here. I think I read somewhere that when you log onto certain websites or use Google; something somewhere automatically builds up a profile based on your search criteria and related banner ads will automatically come up based on your profile. For example if you once searched for holidays in India, you may see quite a few related banner ads coming up as a result. Anyone know exactly how this works? I dont think The Hub gets paid directly by the local Universities in my town do they?
  15. Sorry about the dumb question but are they actually prescriptions in the sunglass lens? I've just lost my Giant flip-up sunglasses which had prescriptions underneath (not prescription in the sunglass lens). So I opted to go onto contacts and got some Oakley fast jacket! Love 'em but nobody could put prescription into the curvature of the oakley lens.
  16. Do let u know all about it please
  17. Do we really need this? http://mashable.com/2011/07/31/bike-of-the-future/
  18. http://www.endomondo.com Anyone use this to track their workouts and record data? Just downloaded the app to my phone and it looks brilliant! Going for a walk around the mall (meeting the missus) to see how it works
  19. Who of the big guns are actually riding the Vuelta! Need something to watch. Got no lus for the rugby and the missus makes me watch days and bold every afternoon
  20. MASE.... :o

  22. Anyone know where in sleepy hollow I can buy a CS series sensor? Thanks
  23. a cut above the eye means he must've gone down face first in which case you'll want to be breaking the fall with the hands/arms. how does he end up so "badly coordinated" during the fall that he cant even stick out the hand?
  24. having crashed a few motorbikes in my short life, any crash that you can walk away from (not stretchered) is a good one. If you're gonna ride a bike, you WILL fall off! Thought this one was quite funny! But the relief was short lived. Within the first few miles of the descent we came up on a slow moving vehicle (an old beat up, dark blue 4x4 that I was about to become very intimate with), who started weaving across the lanes. We were cautious at first, not knowing his intentions, and after some time it seemed as if he had realized we were there was moving over to let us pass. Paul Ambrose was in front, and he tried to make the pass when the vehicle suddenly swerved back towards him. A bicycle’s brakes are not very effective at 70km/h, but he slammed on his as hard as possible and started weaving out of control. I was just behind him (and a triathlon bikes brakes are even less effective), and thinking he was going to crash in front of me, I swerved left onto the other side of the road just as the driver decided it was time for him to turn left into a small dirt road. Some of the worst accidents are the ones you can see happening, but there’s nothing you can do about it. This was one of those. "For what seemed like minutes, I was hard on the brakes, I could see the dark blue car in front of me and I could see the road coming to an end. As I hit the dirt road, there was no more control over my bike, and still travelling at a fairly brisk speed, I had to choose between ditching myself onto the ground and risk sliding underneath the car, or just plain smacking into the side of this solid immovable object. I chose the former, and although the outcome was rather painful, it turned out better than expected. My bike ended up underneath the car, but I was fortunate to come up just short (guess all those crashes off the dirt bike came in handy), with a fair amount of road rash to my hands, elbow, knee (more like a big hole), hip and ankle, but thankfully no major injuries. After a few choice words to the driver, I dusted myself off, retrieved my bike (also still in working order), and finished the last 1,5hrs of my ride. A close call that could so easily have derailed a whole year’s plans, narrowly averted."
