  1. Once again it was an awesome event. The shorter *marathon route this year did not make it much easier. I got to the top of the monster climb in good shape but after the descent my rear brake gave up on me. Having limited braking made the rest of the race quite scary. Suffered my way back home from there cramping quite badly in the last 15km. We also did the 8km trail run this morning to round off another successful monster weekend. Will be back next year to improve on my times. Taken just next to the waterpoint at the top of the monster climb.
  2. I agree, not too technical, but very bumpy! Awesome race though, it's a proper challenge.
  3. Damn that escalated quickly....and as said before, it's not even Friday!
  4. The performer bundle includes the HRM Run strap which is a few randelas on its own. Although it (the one I posted the link to) does not have wrist based HR measurement the HRM Run strap itself adds some extra measurements when running such as gct and balance. Normal retail price might be inflated but still a good deal.
  5. Good deal on takelot today: Check this out on takealot, http://takealot.com/og/v1/PLID42257007
  6. We decided to test the law of averages the other day in the office. We flipped a coin and counted how many times it landed on heads and tails. After 10 throws it was exactly 5/5 then after 20 it was 10/10, after 30 it was 16/14. Finally after 40 it was exactly 20/20 again, we then realized we were wasting time and got back to work. The end.
  7. I did a 04:09 on the macsteel carnival city and two weeks later a 03:11 on 947. That race with the wind was a killer.
  8. My max was 79.5km/h, can't seem to get past that, got the same on last year's 947. As long as I can see what is going on in front of me i.e. good following distance, I am happy to go fast. Did hit a water bottle at around 40km/h on the M1 this year. Gave me a massive fright but was able to jump just enough to go over it.
  9. Lekker day out. The new route feels a lot faster, curious to hear from everyone else. Now it's beer time.
  10. The grey and silver versions refer to bezel colour, the silver just doesn't show scratches on the bevel as much. The Sapphire refers to the glass which is more scratch resistant than the normal version. You get both the grey and silver versions with sapphire glass.
  11. I was in the same boat before I bought mine. If you regularly set yourself some fitness related goals, for example a certain time on a race, then this watch will help a lot to measure your progress and plan your approach. I am an engineer and it is in my nature to want to have measurements and graphs and things to look at. If you only want it to track an activity in an isolated manner, only want to track what you did that day without caring what the influence would be on your performance or training for a race in two weeks time (for example), then I suspect something cheaper and simpler would suffice. At the end of the day it is a very cool piece of tech. If you have the cash lying around, buy it. If you have other things that could also use the money, consider carefully how much of its functionality you need. I have the silver sapphire, I think the silver helps to hide scratches, I wear mine 24/7 so it takes a beating.
  12. I am chicken, if it's wet I take out my mtb.
  13. Less wind. Adding some technical terrain into the 60km mtb route (if you can find some in the area) could only make it better.
  14. Overslept and started late? Anyways, very keen to hear the outcome of the cheater hunt. Captivating stuff.
  15. I was not expecting the wind to be so hectic, can't remember having any wind yesterday. At the end of the day still enjoyed it, was a good weekend of cycling on the east rand.
  16. If someone picked up a pair of legs around the 35k mark, please let me know, they are most likely mine...
  17. Not a racing snake either and I enjoy the smaller races. Its lekker to be out on the trail with maybe one or two okes around. Sometimes cruising for extended periods with nobody around. Edit: typo
  18. Great that so many of you guys don't do facebook, ensures our odds are better.
  19. Doubt it, just link your garmin to strava. It's easy enough and automatically loads your rides onto strava from garmin connect.
  20. Entry paid and flights booked, there will be a lot of month left at the end of my money!
  21. That decent on 50km mark was my favourite one.
  22. You're not alone, still waiting for mine as well. Was a good race. Somehow I completely forgot about the severity of the vodacom tower climb from last year and it was tough hitting it that deep into the race. The view from the top made it worth it though.
  23. What a tough one, just got up after a quick nap and almost fell on my face. My legs are gone! Nowhere to be found... Seriously starting to reconsider running 8km tomorrow.
  24. I think the only reason I am not worried is because I know it is too late to do anything about my fitness.
